Follow-Up Friday – May 8, 2015

May 8, 2015 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight awesome comments, answer reader’s questions and generally just wrap up my week.

You Make Me – May 3, 2015

Chocolate Lab holds toy

Damn that picture STILL makes me smile.

Emma said, “Sometimes I get my wabbit out of my bed to show people if I’m really excited, but usually I don’t carry around anything.”

Sometimes when we first get home she brings the toy to us, and it is then that she is walking around with it. She does not do it all the time.

Hailey and Zaphod said, “Hailey uses stuffies to help calm herself when we first come home or at bed time, but I have never seen that.

Hailey is smart! I don’t know if Delilah is doing this to calm herself or to get attention. Because of course she does get attention as it’s so cute!

DogDaz said, “Sofie won’t go anywhere without sucking on a lovey. That is so cute. Wish we had chipmunks.”

Awe, Sofie is cute. As for the chipmunks? You can have them! I actually thought one was in my house the other day.

Jen said, “I can never take Laika seriously when she walks around with a toy hanging out like that – that being said it is one of my absolute favorite things to see; especially when she’s grumbling at a squirrel.”

LOL I can understand why, it really is endearing.

Go, Go, Go

Genevieve said, “I have occasionally forgotten, but since day1, Cupcake’s leash has a little zipper bag clipped to the handle. It has 2 extra poop bags, my $500 extra keyless entry car key, (for days we pick up the car from the garage on the way back), an antibacterial wipe, and a few extra treats.”

Do not, I repeat DO NOT lose that bag, not with a key that costs $500! And brilliant idea with the wipe. Brilliant.

Earl Lover said, “My dog’s have little poo bag holders on their leads, making it so simple to pick whilst on a walk. The only way I could ever be left on a walk without a bag, is if I forgot to refill an empty holder!!!”

I have those too, but it’s a hassle (for me) trying to juggle leashes and dogs all the while trying to rip off and open a bag. Opening the bag before our walk, makes it so much easier. Unless I forget the bag. LOL

Mary said, “Yes, just the other night I forgot a poop bag. I did find a ziplock on the ground, and that worked good. So I picked up someone’s litter, and was able to get the poop picked up all at the same time.”

Hey you gotta use what you got, right?

Jenna, Mark, Husky-Crazed Drady said, “We left the groomers one time and I didn’t think to bring poop bags……took two steps out the front door, and Mika pooped right on their front step! I think she was making a statement!

LOL I guess she told you what she thought!

Beth said, “Last night, I used the last bag in our holder on the leash and forgot to refill it when we got home. This morning, I realized after we were already far down the road that I only had the one that I keep in the back of our treat pouch for emergencies. Some mornings are two bag mornings, so I was panicked that one wasn’t going to be enough, but we survived!”

I’ve done that also. I am spoiled (I guess) by the raw food poop. I can generally fit four poops in one bag. I use Earth Rated and they are 9 x 11, I think I might be able to fit another poop in there if I had to.

Lauranne said, “Pulling it out, yanking it off… this is why I need to come and play here more often! ”

Yes you do, I’ve missed you.

Elaine said, “I once saw a man walking his dog in front of our house when his lab decided it was time to poop in our yard. The man looked away, then hurried off without picking it up. I didn’t bother me too much since Haley occasionally poops in the front yard anyway. Twenty minutes later, the man returns alone with a bag to cleanup after his dog. How nice!”

Wow that was nice. You’d never see any of the douche bags where I live do that.

We Live in a Flat said, “Hmmm, I’ve seen someone trying to pick up poo with a leaf before. Not the best solution.”

Was it me? Cause I totally just did this yesterday. Word to all you daredevils out there, don’t try this unless you are home, because you will need to wash your hands.

WTF Wednesday – An Eye for An Eye

Dog found in intersection

Photo courtesy of NBC 2 News.

Emma said, “What can I say except to repeat what Mom says to us often…the world would be such a wonderful place if many of the humans were not in it. Sounds mean, but it does kind of hold true!”

The gene pool needs a good bit of chlorine.

Elaine said, “Ugh, and then there was the story about the momma dog that fell out of an airplane when the door accidentally opened up after takeoff. Fortunately, her puppies were all safe and were found roaming around the plane.”

OMG can you even imagine? This is why my dogs will never fly unless they are on a seat right next to me. Or in a private plane. 😉

Jan said, “I just read a sign that said the world is made up of protons, neutrons, electrons, and morons. That about sums it up.”

Yes ma’am it does.

Jen Gabbard asked, “In both of these stories WTF sums it up perfectly – how the hell do you lose a crate anyways?”

I have no idea. Were they transporting in a pick up truck?

One Fell Swoop

Dog walking essentials

The basic dog walking essentials…cell phone, car keys (to drive to park) pepper blaster and treat bag. Only thing missing? Poop bags!

Beth said, “Oh dear! RIP Treat Pouch! If your newer one ever meets a similar fate, I’ve had one from the Etsy shop Cody’s Creations and it’s great.”

Oh that is a cute treat bag! Thank you, I will keep it in mind.

Repoleon said, “I have several jackets with holes in the pockets because I carry treats in my pockets and then hang the jacket on the back of a chair and the pups work on getting every last crumb.”

I’m afraid to even comment on this. I’ve actually left a treat in my pocket and she never found it. BUT I think it’s because I hang my jacket in the entry way and she doesn’t spend a lot of time there. I’ve heard of many people with holes in their pockets. 😉

Jan K said, “We had that same treat bag and I didn’t like it either. I think I threw ours away though. I can’t tell you how many times I walk by things I need to do and just don’t do them, even when it’s something simple like just throwing something away.”

Why is that? Odds are I’m going to be walking close to a trash can, why can’t I just pick it up and follow through?

Hawk aka Brown Dog said, ”  Now she uses one of those “fanny packs”, but carries it on her front. A “tummy pack”? She can put her driver’s license, smart phone and my treats in it along with a supply of Poop Bags.”

I do use one of those in the summer. I have too many things I schlep with me and generally not enough pockets. 🙂

Lauren Miller said, “I’ve had a couple of those bags and I’ve hated them all. They just don’t stay on! Our favorite bait bag is the Rapid Rewards one from Doggone Good. I’ve never had an issue with it and we have two.”

It looks great, I would just like to see it in person. The one I have now isn’t too bad, it’s much easier than the old one.

Well that’s it for me folks. Have a great weekend!

Follow-Up Friday – May 1, 2015

May 1, 2015 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight awesome comments, answer reader’s questions and generally just wrap up my week.

You Make Me Smile – April 26, 2015

FRANKly and ERNESTly Speaking said, “Grandma must LOVE it TOO !!!”

Yes, Grandma does love it, in fact I don’t know which one of them loves it more!

Jan said, “My dogs are like Sampson, they just can’t get enough humans in their pack. I think if burglars broke in they would lick them, wag their tails, and show them where the family silver is kept.”

OMG I say that about Sampson too. I can hear him, “Excuse me, but before you rob us blind, would you mind a nice tummy rub?” LOL

Sock Puppy

Dogs in socks

Really Mama, it’s just a sock.

Cupcake Speaks said, “DAMN cute! For sure. Cutest dog ever in the cutest sock ever! Hang in there, buddy. Sock beats cone by a mile! ”

Ain’t that the truth! I bet if you asked him he’d tell you the same thing!

My GBGV Life said, “The facial expression says it all! Katie is the only one of us who has had to wear a sock, but she is white, so Mom always put white socks on her, no fun patterns.”

I picked up a pack of six socks for like $6, I can’t imagine how dirty the white socks would get. 🙂

Beth said, “He’s definitely adorable in those socks. I had to put some on Barley earlier this year to keep her from licking her paw cream (just because the licking was making me crazy), but she kept flinging them off–baby socks is a genius idea!”

It still needs some modifications but in general it is much easier than an adult sock!

Cindy Lu’s Muse said, “He is absolutely adorable in that sock – what a lovey! Get well fast, and NO LICKING, Sampson!”

He was very good, he attempted to lick it a couple of times immediately after the bandage came off and after that he just left it alone.

Elaine said, “Yes! He is damn cute and I love the striped sock! When I did this for Haley, it was really fun picking out the socks.”

Yes, I can see why people like dressing up their pets. 😉

Blueberry’s Human said, “That is too stinking cute! You know, a few times, I’ve seen toddler socks in the middle of the desert on our hikes and wondered how they got there. Now I know – it was probably a dog!”

I had never really given it much thought before he had to wear it.  At first I was trying makeshift socks and he did lose one. I found it the next day. 🙂

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “Did you update your version of WordPress? They released a patch. 🙂 The sock is cute. Is he going to have to wear the cone of shame?”

I did not know about the patch, thank you for sharing. Yes I did indeed do the update. As for the cone, he was very good and I didn’t have to use it!

The Neighborhood Wave

Sand Spring Chesapeakes said, ” I didn’t know about the jeep wave until I rode with my friend in her new jeep in Feb and she waved to another jeep owner and said that is what you do.

Hubby says it has something to do with a big jeep rally that is held every year, I don’t know for sure.

Mary said, “When we had our Harleys we always got, and gave the Harley wave. Similar to the jeep wave.”

I didn’t know they had their own wave either!

FRANKly and ERNESTly Speaking said, “Since WE have Jessie Jeep… we guess we gotta tell mom about that special Jeep Wave.”

So mom doesn’t know about it? Do jeep peeps in your area not wave at each other?

Monika said, “As I get older I notice younger people have the social skills of trolls.”

BOL it’s because their heads are buried in electronics with no real social interactions!

Blueberry’s Human said, “I like to wave with one of B’s full poop bags. Defecation salutation. It serves two purposes – 1) I clean up after my dog and 2) I am friendly. Pow.”

Bwa ha ha, defecation salutation a.k.a. the shit salute! I gave it yesterday, stuck two fingers out like a peace sign and waved the poop bag. 😉

Leah said, “There’s the motorcycle wave – similar to Jeep’s except the waver’s hand hangs down palm forward, almost as if ready to clap a low “give me 5″ with another rider. ”

Sometimes the jeep wave is also down low, it depends on whether the doors are on or off. 😉

Jackie Bouchard said, “At both places, when we moved in, no one came to welcome us to the ‘hood. ”

We had one neighbor introduce herself right away and we did meet the people on the other side of us, but the ones across the street? Nope not a one came by. I hope the next neighborhood is a little more friendly and has a few less Dumb Ass Dog Owners.

Clowie said, “There’s one very special neighbour who, instead of waving, puts her hand into her treat pocket when she sees me (she has my bipeds’ permission) – that’s the very best type of greeting!

Now that’s the way to greet a dog!

Beth said, “My signature wave is the Girl Scout’s Honor. I usually have a few treats in my right hand and Barley’s leash in the left, so I can only manage to get a few fingers up in a wave while still keeping the treats secured in my palm.”

Hickory Dickory Dee

Delilah likes chasing cats

.

Lauren Miller said, “That’s a hilarious poem and I did giggle at your photo of Delilah!! 😀 I’m glad the kitty got down!”

Thanks and I’m glad the kitty got down too, I was pretty worried.

Repoleon says, “My lab mix is afraid of cats, so he would be the one trying to escape. The neighborhood cats seem to know this. It’s a little embarrassing. 🙂

Oh my, poor guy, is there a reason he’s afraid?

Slimdoggy said, “Jack says well done Delilah! He would have been filled with glee too!”

Whoo hoo, Delilah got the Slimdoggy Jack seal of approval!

Elaine said, “I’m glad the kitty made it down on its own and we won’t be reading a post titled “Why I Fell Out of a Tree”. 🙂

Ha ha ha valid point.

One Person’s View asked, “First of all, why do you even have cat food in your house?!”

In case Delilah trees a cat of course. 😉 No really, I had bought the food when I made the styrofoam cat house for the cat near my work.

Hailey and Zaphod said, “Hailey would have been glued to the bottom of the tree forever if she treed a cat!”

We had to call Delilah away and keep a tight rein on her when she went out. Otherwise she would have been standing next to me trying to figure out how to get up that tree. 🙂

That’s it for me folks, have a great weekend!

Follow-Up Friday – April 24, 2015

April 24, 2015 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight awesome comments, answer reader’s questions and generally just wrap up my week.

You Make Me Smile – April 19, 2015

Golden Lab enjoys the sun

Don’t mind me, I’ll just melt here.

Cupcake said, “Flat-out street nap weather. Neighbors stopped to ask, “Is Cupcake on strike?” and “Is she working on her tan?” as she slept like a baby in the middle of the street. ”

LOL Cupcake you are a hoot!  I saw a picture of you napping in the street on your blog, how is that comfortable?

Jan said, “He looks like he has just melted into the earth.”

THANK YOU!  That was what I was trying to say but just couldn’t find the words.  When I saw him out there, it was like he was part of the landscape. 🙂

2 Brown Dawgs said, “Awe. I have a similar picture of Thunder. Just snoozing dead to the world.”

Isn’t it amazing, how they can just tune everything out and simply enjoy life?

Paw Patrol

I broke the comments into two sections, the comments about Sampson’s paw and the suggestions for dealing with Delilah’s gum.

Callie, Shadow and Ducky’s Mom said, “Maybe use a rubber band to hold the sock on?”

I hesitated to use a rubber band because I was concerned with it being too tight and causing more harm than good.

Genevieve said, “I wonder if a long sock would be better than a short sock. Pull it up as high as possible and then tape it.”

I haven’t tried the longer sock yet, but it’s in the back of my mind, (mostly because I only had vet tape.)

Emma said, “Mom taught us the no lick and leave it commands so we don’t bother wounds around the house when she is home at least.

He knows the leave it command and it usually works, but he still tries to sneak it when he can.  If he goes at it too much, I put the cone on.

Jen said, “I always put Sherman’s bootie on when we have a nail issue because it stays on better than a sock.”

The bootie would be a good idea, but I was afraid it would be too snug around that nail and make it feel worse.

Elaine said, “We had to use socks on Haley after foot surgery several years ago and found that kid’s socks worked best for her. I used regular surgical wrap around the top of the sock and wrapped it up her leg a little bit. It seemed to hold well and was pretty easy to remove later.”

Sherrie Petrie suggested, “Try using an infant sock with the toe cut off and some Coban top and bottom to keep it in place.”

Thank you Elaine and Sherrie, I went out to BJ’s and bought a package of toddler socks and have been working all week on tweaking them in just the right way. 🙂

Blueberry’s Human asked, “I probably would not paint the cone – but I would definitely put stickers on it. Your hubby didn’t say you couldn’t do that, did he?”

No, he did not say I couldn’t use stickers…:-)

GUM

Shannon Barnard said, “Try rubbing peanut butter on gum if it happens again. That should take it right off.”

Thanks Shannon, I did not know that, although with Delilah I’d have to record it because it would be a fight to keep her from eating that peanut butter. LOL

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “So Delilah didn’t get the gum before you did?”

I know, right? One would think she’d be all over that.

A Post About Nothing

2 Brown Dawgs said, “Pictures work for posts when you are stuck and you got some good ones.”

Thank you. I was so stuck I had trouble finding pictures and I have thousands of them. THOUSANDS.

Mary said, “My mojo is slightly on hold too. I’m not feeling very good and that doesn’t help. I scraped together a post yesterday, scheduled it for this morning, and this morning there was nothing there. POOF!”

Oh that is the worst Mary! And thanks for reminding me to hit save draft every once in a while. And I do hope you are feeling better.

Sand Spring Chesapeakes said, “Yea I wasn’t too happy with that vet either it was a WTF moment.”

Seriously a vet.  I know things are different in Texas but good lord!

Baby Come Back – Barks and Bytes

As the night wore on Sampson did feel better and better and was back to himself by morning.  He did get up a few times though and I tried to discourage him leaving the room because I was worried about him licking the bandage, but it seemed dry this morning.  But Damn am I tired!

Kari said, “I hope he’s back to his old self soon! I used to walk the dogs separately, but who has the time?”

Time is really the issue.  I’d love to walk them both individually but that would add at least another hour to my day and I don’t think I can squeeze it in. So I do try on weekends to get at least one walk in with each of them separately.

Chocolate Lab

Keep up

Lauren Miller said, “Isn’t it weird how when you just walk one dog they are perfect? Mine are the same way!!”

It’s amazing what taking a dog out of the equation can do.  Sampson isn’t usually too bad when he walks with Delilah, although he does have his moments. But remove him from the walk and she is totally amazing.

Cupcake said, “Hang in there, S. I hope your tummy is hungry this morning”

Thanks Cupcake, his tummy was hungry and he ate all his breakfast!

That’s it for me folks.  Have a great weekend and thanks for hanging in with me.
