Follow-Up Friday – October 18, 2013

October 18, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Joining me as co-hostess today is 2 Brown Dawgs Blog.  If you haven’t yet met Thunder, Storm and Freighter, what are you waiting for?  They’re awesome!

Thank you LInda for joining me.

Follow-Up Friday

Dawn said, “Fantastic follow up! I barely have enough time to read blogs, let alone comments.”

I’m with you there my friend.  It’s so hard trying to write, read and comment.  Sometimes I just can’t comment, but I hate not reading, you miss too many things!

You Make Me Smile – Star Wars Style

Yoda 2

Roxy asked, “LOL…How does he do that?”

I wish I knew.  His ears are frequently in strange positions.

Jackie asked, “Do you suppose they know their ears are bent all crazy but just don’t care?”

I’m not sure of that either!  I know my mom will always say, “fix your ear.”  Honestly I think it bothers her more than it bothers him. LOL

Oh Lord, My Water Broke

One Person’s View asked, “How did she get it out of the SINK?”

She stood on her hind legs, stuck her face in the sink and pulled it out.  I am constantly catching her with her face in the sink!  Sometimes she’s just lapping up dirty dishwater.

Basil asked, “Is it wrong that my only thought is well done for getting so far?!”

Hell no!  I was proud of her for that too!!  Once she actually pulled a GLASS bowl out of the sink and carried it into the living room.  I swear I don’t know how she does it!

Blueberry’s Human said, “I am totally impressed! I’m telling you – you need to have some cameras around there to watch how she does these things!”

I think you’re right.  People wouldn’t be watching the Pandas, they’d be watching Delilah!

Don’t Be a Dick

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “Did you think I would get my panties in a wad?…lol.”

No. You and I are cool.  You are very responsible with your dogs.

Jessica said, “I just wish people were more responsible with their pets. About everything, not just spay/neuter. Violating leash laws, not scooping, not training. All symptoms of the same problem.”

I agree.  I just wish they took the time to educate themselves, that would go a long way.

Misty said, “sorry for the rant.”

Never apologize for being passionate about something on this blog. 🙂

Jump Mama

Jackie said, ““How high, Delilah?” Hahahahaha. I can’t really see your mama saying that Delilah. But if you insist that that’s what you heard, then I’ll believe you.”

She made that shit up.  I would never say that.

This ‘N That Thursday

Animal Couriers said, “Good luck in shutting down that negligent vet. How on earth did they allow that?”

Oh I wish I knew!  Sometimes I really wonder what the heck goes on in some people’s minds.

Emma asked, “So what do the stripes on those furry little guys mean?”

You know, I’m not sure Emma, but I’m going to ask the person who told me about it.  I’ll get back to you!

That is a wrap for Follow-Up Friday.  Thank you to 2 Brown Dawgs for co-hosting this week.  Remember, if you’re interested in co-hosting Follow-Up Friday next week, let me know in the comments.

Have a great weekend!

Follow-Up Friday – October 11, 2013

October 11, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-up Friday, I’m delighted to be sharing my co-hosting duties with JoAnn from Sand Spring Chesapeakes, if you don’t know Jo-Ann make sure you stop by and see what Norman, Nellie, Glory and G-Man are up to this week.

Follow-Up Friday-October 4, 2013

Blueberry’s Human said, “The leash around the waist actually helps you so you aren’t jerked around as much – your center of gravity helps keep you on your feet. I’ve used the method with a (at the time) 105 pound lab mix and it definitely works. It does take some getting used to though and at first I would still pick up the slack leash in my hand – but eventually I got confident enough to let it go.”

Thanks for sharing that, I’m still unsure though. 😀

You Make Me Smile

A couple of you asked what was Sampson after?

I’m sure I don’t know, I was too afraid he might find it to let him keep digging. 😀

Of Chipmunks, Reflections and Food

IMG_5812

Flea said, “Thank you for the ear worm. Not.”

Hey it was stuck in my head, just consider it passing along the love.

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “I am wondering whether she is trailing chipmunks when she takes off on you in the woods and goes to other peoples yards?”

You bring up a good point but the more I think of it, the more I think no and here’s why.  When she takes off her head is up and so is her tail, it’s not like she has her nose to the ground tracking something.  The last time she went into someone’s yard, she was definitely grazing on something on the ground.

Pumpkin Plumpies

Dawn said, “If you ever get that recipe for Irish cream whiskey, let us know. I was just thinking this morning about how much better my coffee would be if the creamer was really Irish cream whiskey and not just the flavor of.”

You my friend are a girl after my own heart.  I actually googled it and found recipes to make Irish Whiskey.  Whoo Hoo!  I think I might have to try it.

Emma said, “My suggestion would be to use a paw to flatten the cookies.”

That is a PAWESOME idea Emma.

K-9 Kamp Update

Jackie asked, “Delilah – you could train me anytime. I would follow you anywhere for an M&M or two! (We are talking REAL M&Ms right… not some bunny pellet you found in the forest and tried to pass off as a brown M&M???)”

Yes Miss Jackie, we use real M&M’s for training in this house.

Donna said, “You know Delilah, since she slipped, she might need some desensitization work before you can get her attempt rock climbing again. The M&Ms might not be enough, you might to take a step back and start with baby steps, like asking her to touch a rock with her nose or something. (Make sure you get a photo).”

Delilah here:  Donna you made me bark out loud.  I love this idea, the Mama’s been tossing the idea of a puppy cam around.  I think I’ll work on it.

Basil asked, “Poppies??”

It was a reference to the movie, The Wizard of Oz.  The poppies made them sleep and the Mama really wanted to rest.

This ‘N That Thursday

Pam said, “You usually close up your FUF posts with a second thank you to that week’s co-host. Well, after that, maybe include a sentence that says something like, “If you’d like to co-host next week’s Follow-Up Friday, contact me as soon possible for details!” and let it be first-come, first-serve. Surely at least one blogger will contact you every week. Or have you already tried the “I’ll just let them come to me” method before?”

I have never tried it that way, I think it’s worth a shot.  If it doesn’t work out, I’ll let you know.

That’s a wrap to the Follow-Up Friday blog hop co-hosted by Sand Spring Chesapeakes and Heart Like a Dog.  Many thanks to Jo-Ann for agreeing to co-host.

Follow-Up Friday

October 4, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Joining me this week is Lynda from Two Ears and a Tail.  Lynda was a surprise friend I met while attending BlogPaws.  Lynda joined us when we went out to dinner and I was lucky enough to sit next to her, where she shared the story of her adoption of BJ, the hero of her blog.  If you haven’t met BJ and Lynda yet be sure to stop by and say HI!    Thank you Lynda for co-hosting with me!!

Follow-Up Friday

Ducky’s mom said, “Naw, if you happen to see someone not picking up after their own dog, yell to them to get their a$$es back there & pick it up. If they refuse, run ahead of them, snap a picture of their face. THEN, when you get home, put a caption like “this person does not clean up his/her dog’s poop”, print a bazillion copies, and plaster them all over the park and town.”

And I’ll tell you WHY I DON’T do that.  I worry that people will be vindictive and call animal control on me or harass my dogs in some other manner.  I know it’s probably paranoid, but that’s just how I think.

You Make Me Laugh

Jackie said, “Rita is the opposite. She almost never reminds me to feed her.”

You know Sampson used to be like that with his Kibbles, I’m not sure if he would remain quite as patient now that he’s on raw, but for sure he wouldn’t start bothering me half an hour before his scheduled meal.   Hubby and I have a running joke whenever we are out past their dinner time.   We think Delilah is dancing around the house saying, “Will they be back? When will they be back?  Do you think they know they’re late?”  While Sampson would just be patiently waiting.

Houndstooth said, “Ha ha ha! I would enjoy watching a Delilah reality show! Just sayin’!”

Sign me up.  I’ve often thought of wearing a helmet cam just to capture her antics.  Honestly, if you could hear her whining as I’m preparing her breakfast you’d think she hadn’t eaten in a week.

He’s Different on Leash

Rebecca asked, “Have you tried walking them on a coupler?”

No, I haven’t, but I think I may have to try it.

Donna asked, “What about shortening Sampson’s leash up when you walk, since he likes to stay close by you anyway?”

That’s what I try to do, it’s just a pain winding the leash around my hand.

Jodi asked, “If Delilah had been on leash, do you think Sampson would have run up to those people or do you think that he was just following her lead?”

Yes he would have.  When you get right down to it, Sampson is a people dog.  He loves people far more than he loves other dogs.  When we pull up to the park and he notices another car, he’s on a people hunt, you can see it in his demeanor.

10.3.13 002 Excuse the blurriness of the picture, but this is Sampson on the hunt for someone on our hike.

Jen K left a great video of her walking Alma on a hands free leash.  All I’ve got to say is, you are brave.  I can’t imagine walking either of my dogs with a leash attached to my waist, without a lot more training.  There have been times where they have lurched on the leash and pulled me, and I can’t imagine that coming from my waist.

Most of the time he’s very good off-leash.  BUT when we come upon people unexpectedly and I don’t get the chance to call him back (or he’s seen them first) that’s when the real trouble is.

For instance Tuesday we ran into another dog.  I had Sampson sit and he stayed, until the other dog moved and then there was nothing I could do to get him back.  I just had to let it happen.  (The other dog was also off-leash.)

You Can’t Save Them All

Pam said, “I’ll reserve my nasty thoughts for her previous owners.”

You don’t have to.  You’re welcome to share them here.  It’s not like I haven’t thought them. 😀  Don’t get me wrong.  Sometimes animals need to be re-homed, I understand that.  That is not the case with Sugar. If I had my way I’d chain her owner up to a tree in the dirt.  I have a really bad word for people like her, but even I won’t use it on this blog.

Jen said, “One dog at a time.”

Yes ma’am, if that’s how it has to be done, then that’s how we’ll do it!!

Cokie the Cat

Did you think it strange to find a cat on a dog blog?  Last year when Something Wagging did the Pet Blogger Gift Exchange I was paired with Cokie.  His mom is super amazing, kind and generous.  I know her heart is hurting right now and I wanted her to know that I’m thinking of her.

Dogs Just Want to Have Fun

This is going to be challenging for us as the days are shorter and it’s getting dark earlier.  By the time October ends, there will be no more walks in the woods after work.  Any after work walks will be around the block and Hubby is not keen on doing this, so we will have to work extra hard to get some fun things going on in the house.

Jan K said, “We really want to join k9 Kamp this time, but we are definitely going to need some ideas.”

Here’s one for you that I saw on Kol’s Notes.  Monkey in the middle.  Try throwing tiny treats over the dog’s heads.  You can stand as close or as far apart as you want.

That’s it for me, many thanks to Lynda from Two Ears and a Tail for co-hosting with me this week.
