1-12-14

Animal Couriers said, “What’s the longest time she has spent in that activity?”

One weekend I think she actually sat there for two or three hours.  I was really beginning to worry!

Faded Photographs…

Lindsay said, “I have a tough time getting action shots, but the good ones are always outside with the right lighting. I take about 20 or 30 shots and usually a single photo is decent.”

You have far more patience than I do.  Usually I’m done after five shots, but on occasion I’ve been known to take up to ten.  Most of them are garbage and when I get a really good shot, I try and use an online editor and get the most bang for my buck.  ‘-)

Tori said, “if you use an iPhone, try tapping a dark part of the dog (i usually aim for their chest), then take it. Your phone will automatically lighten it up so you can see the darker parts!”

Holy God!  How did I not know this?  I bow to you Tori.  Thank you.  Thank you.

One Person CAN Make a Difference

I think what I was trying to share was sometimes when you look at the big picture of animal welfare, it can be so overwhelming, and people look at large organizations and think, “I can’t do that” but the point is you don’t have to!   People just like you and me ARE making a difference and you can too.

Of course, I don’t think it came across that way.  You however, you all said it so much better than I did.

Molly the Wally said, “If each of us do something even small we can move mountains.”

Sue at Talking Dogs said, “It we’re paying attention, we sometimes find surprising directions life takes us and we can help others in ways we’d never thought about or planned.”

Jen K said, “It’s easy to get bogged down in the gravity of the situation (animal welfare), but stories like this prove that every person and every effort is worth it and makes a real difference.”

Jackie said, “I think sometimes the “we can’t save them all” attitude can keep some people from doing anything – they feel overwhelmed and defeated before they even start, but every bit helps.”

Rudolph

Dawn said, “Maya and I went for a fun trip the other day and we were at a stop light when Maya suddenly started barking in a menacing way. It scared me because I thought perhaps a stranger was walking up to my car. But nope. She was barking at a cow-shaped sign in front of a yogurt shop. I was laughing so hard, someone behind me honked their horn because I didn’t realized my light had turned green.”

Oh my.  Did I laugh over this one.  Thank you for sharing Dawn, I could definitely see Delilah doing this.

From my heart

I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for the wonderful support you’ve shown for the Follow-Up Friday blog hop.  For all you who helped by spreading the word or co-hosting with me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As you know, I wanted FUF to be a blog hop with revolving hosts to help share the linky love.  That wasn’t always easy to do and I realized it just wasn’t working.   So after much soul searching, I’ve decided to end the FUF blog hop.  I will continue FUF as a weekly feature on this blog because 1) I truly enjoy it and 2) many of you seem to enjoy it as well.

And for those of you, who like this feature, please feel free to use it on your blogs!

For quite a few months Linda from 2 Brown Dawgs and I have been talking about combining our hops and I’m excited to announce it has finally come to pass.

We’re super excited to announce The Thursday Barks and Bytes Blog Hop, which begins next Thursday, January 23rd. a We wanted the hop to be appealing to dog bloggers but also to non dog bloggers as well, which is where the ‘Bytes” comes in.

Linda and I are very excited and hope all of you will join us next Thursday for the inaugural hop.  In order to start us off right, we have a giveaway planned for all participants.

 Isn’t it pretty?

Heart Like a Dog

I love it so much and it was designed by the Amazing Jodi Chick from Kol’s Notes.  By the time next week rolls around, the badge will be in the side bar with code to help you add it to your blog.  Sounds good, right?

Are you ready?  Cool.  Grab a badge from here or 2 Brown Dawgs and come back Thursday for all the details and help us kick this hop off!

You Make Me Smile – December 29, 2013

Cupcake said, “Whenever I freeze and stop breathing and stare into the distance, Mom says, “Let’s go. There’s nothing there…” She’s usually wrong.”

Cupcake darling, your comments always make me laugh.

Dawn asked, “I have to take dozens of photos and hope one of them turns out right. How many photos did you have to take to get this perfect one of Sampson and Delilah?”

I think about three.  It’s the rare time I get a great picture right from the get. 🙂

A Christmas Eve Walk

Dawn said, “I have to walk Maya and Pierson one-at-a-time or they will get extremely riled up when they see another dog.”

Which is why Hubby needs to be with me if I venture out of our woods.  Sampson usually just wants to greet, but Delilah is a mixed bag of nuts.  You never know how she will react.

Jan K said, “We LOVE our rail trails! Yours look really nice too. Ours are mostly flat though….I wouldn’t mind more of an elevation gain here and there. They do go high over some rivers and roads, but the trail itself is flat. We can walk right to ours from our house too, which is great, and sometimes I drive to other towns for scenery changes. The only downfall is that once we have a lot of snow we don’t use them. The snowmobilers use them then and I don’t trust that they aren’t out there going too fast for our safety.”

Most of the trail is flat, or you don’t really realize the change in elevation, but in this instance to access the trail, it was a huge climb.

We don’t have to worry about snowmobiles here, motorized vehicles are not allowed on the rail trail down here.

Are You Ready for Some Good Carma?

Jessica said, “I thought the whole point of Golden Doodles was that Poodles made terrible service dogs. It’s nice to see somebody disprove that.”

I thought that too.  I thought (oh I’m going to catch some shit from this statement) poodles were high strung. 🙂

Pamela asked, “Did you meet Carma and her mom at BlogPaws this year?”

Colored Poodle Sadly, I did not.  I only saw one poodle and it was in my Facebook course.  But she was certainly relaxed. 🙂

Then again, she could have been Carma, but if she was I did not know.

This ‘N That Thursday – January 2, 2014

Emma said, “As for the butter…Mom had a similar experience except that Bailie took the top slice of bread off her sandwich which was on the kitchen island about two feet behind Mom’s back. She was going for the entire sandwich but got caught and settled for the bread of which she got about half before Mom attempted to kill her. Well, not really, but there was a lot of nasty yelling going on for sure! Bailie will be a stellar counter surfer when she gets her techniques refined a bit more. I’m proud of her, Mom is not at all pleased! Mom did not eat what was left of the bread, but in your case, she would have eaten the butter.”

LOL Emma, I think Bailie will make a wonderful counter surfer too.  For the record, I would not have eaten the bread and yes, there were some nasty words coming out of my mouth. 🙂

Roxy the Traveling Dog said, “I am glad my dogs are to short to counter surf. I would have used the butter too.”

The counter surfing wouldn’t bother me quite so much if she wasn’t so bold.  She will reach into the trash to pull something out while you are putting something in there. 😀

Frankie and Ernie said, “BaaaaaWaaaah what a way to start the new Year… BUTTER UP !! Our mom would have used it too…WAY TO GO DELILAH!!! WE are PROUD of you… even if your mom isn’t. Did she have Tomato Soup with the Grilled Cheese?? THAT is a super meal.”

No Frankie and Ernie, I covered the soup. 🙂

And Jessica said, “Lots of good challenges. There’s also the fitness challenge that was posted on You Did What With Your Wiener yesterday.”

So there is another blog hop to add to the list!

That’s it for me, have  a great weekend!!

No More Cone and Advent Calendar for Dog Lovers Day 21

Houndstooth said, “I remember having to have stitches after ingrown toenail removal once. The doctor yanked the knot out right through my toe!”

O.M.G. I think I would have yanked something of his out, right through his mouth!  I can’t imagine.

Lauranne said, “I have only just clicked that your dogs are named Sampson and Delilah as in the famous couple and story from the bible (ok possibly not out of the bible but I hope you know what I mean).”

When Hubby and I decided to get a puppy from my friend’s brother’s dog, I suggested getting two and giving them a cute name like Jack and Jill.  We tossed around some names and decided on Sampson and Delilah.  Then we only ended up taking one puppy, Sampson. I found out after the fact that the biblical spelling is Samson.  Oh well it fits him. 🙂  Hubby only agreed to let me rescue Delilah (who was named Ginny at the time) if I changed her name.

It was a small concession for the joy she brings.

Thoughts from a Winter Walk and Advent Calendar for Dog Lovers Day 24

Lauranne said, “I have those thoughts. On my weekend walk with BD it was “if I slip and fall on my arse who’s going to help me get up”

Oh I think that all the time too.  I wonder, will Delilah just drag me on my ass, or will I drop the leash and just lie there waiting for someone to find me?

Not last New Year’s eve, but the year before I actually did fall.  Sampson the little dick just ignored me but Delilah came back and waited until I could get up.  I called Hubby from the cell, but after a minute caught my breath and didn’t need him to come get me.  I thought I had dislocated my shoulder, but turns out it was just a hard fall.

Always carry a cell phone or whistle!

Emma said, “Mom has no footwear leaks, but she has three of us on leash and we do sometimes act up. Katie will refuse to walk which is a cue to Bailie and I to play chase and wrestle. Normally we only do these things when other people walking dog(s) are approaching or on a busier road. Lots of loud bad language comes out of Mom’s mouth.”

LOL Emma, if someone actually heard me on our walks, they would never believe I love my dogs.  I say lots of bad words too!

Cupcake’s comment cracked me up, “When we walk, Mom thinks, “Isn’t Cupcake the cutest most well-behaved dog? She is so friendly and smart and sweet. And most of all, she never eats goose poop or tries to fall down the sewer or gets scared of helicopters flying over us.”

Yeah, I’m sure that’s exactly what mom is thinking Cupcake!

Hawk said, “First, Sampson, your human is calling you so you stay close and the hunters don’t think you’re a deer or a farmer doesn’t think you’re a coyote after their stock.”

You make a good point Hawk, I do worry about that, but I’m usually so loud when we’re walking that I’d scare off any deer.

Christmas Reflections

Hailey and Zaphod said, “So Christmas day after our gifts, we went to the movies and we had leftovers for dinner.”

We both had yesterday off so we went to the movies then.  But we did play a video game after everyone had left. The dogs (of course) were sacked out on the couch!

Leslie said, “(I need to meet Sampson so I can get some Labby loving. I miss it so.)”

I think you should Leslie, you will get lots of loving from Sampson, he would absolutely adore you.

Oz the Terrier said, ” I tried to trip Ma on Christmas Eve afternoon when she was shredding the Lechon Asado (roasted pork); she didn’t trip but she bobbled and some pork went flying…right into my mouth!”

Oh Oz, you naughty boy!  LOL Did bad words come out of Ma’s mouth?

Frankie and Ernie said, “Somehow We missed out on the last two days of the Christmas Pressie give aways.”

You can still enter!  It’s open until the 31st.  Day 23 is here and Day 24 is here.

Marquie said, “We have to keep a gate up to discourage Petal, and her cousin Penny, from coming into the kitchen to “help””

Our kitchen is set up in such a way that I can’t block it off.  It is a feature of the house that I’m not fond of.

I’m still loving this picture.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA In fact, I think I might frame it!

That’s a wrap for this week’s edition of Follow-up Friday, thanks for joining me and have a marvelous weekend!
