Thanksgiving Weekend

Originally we intended to go to New Hampshire to visit my sister and her husband over the long Thanksgiving weekend.  But when Mom got sick, my sister decided she needed to come to CT instead.  Me being the oh so generous wife that I am, suggested Hubby head to NH for a ‘boy’s weekend’ while my sister and I enjoyed a ‘girl’s weekend. Well you know what they say, the best laid plans and all.  Turns out we were super busy.

So when Sunday morning rolled around, I decided to park myself on the couch for a few minutes to shop for purses. My sister meanwhile was elsewhere in the house.

Okay, she was using the toilet if you have to know, when all of a sudden the dogs started barking like demons were circling the house.

My sister cut her business short thinking she might have to save me from something and the three of them dashed to the window, faster than the main character in “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clarke Moore. (Ok, technically Santa Claus MIGHT be the main character, but let’s roll with this okay?)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Yeah, the picture is dark.  It was an overcast day and I don’t turn on lights.  Sampson is there in front of my sister, while Delilah is clearly silhouetted.

I mentioned I was shopping for purses right?  So you can see why I didn’t jump right up.  Well the three of them looked out the window and then the dogs ran to the front deck and then back to the window and I just couldn’t concentrate with all that racket, so I got up to see what had everyone’s attention.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA There were some turkeys across the street.

And then the turkeys crossed the street to my neighbor’s yard, so the dogs had to go outside, where they could stand at the fence barking at them.

Can you handle a little joke?  I hope so, because I’m doing it anyway.

Q: Why did the turkeys cross the road?

A: To see what the dogs were barking at of course!

The barking dogs didn’t frighten the turkeys at all, in fact a few of them stopped to look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Whatchoo lookin’ at fools?

It was a stare down in my yard.  My two barking dogs and these five bold as brass turkeys. (Who didn’t realize their cousin was already cooked and sitting in my refrigerator.)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA These other four could have cared less, they were pecking the grass for something.

And there I was in the front window snapping away like I’d never seen a turkey in my life.  Honestly I took like 17 pictures.  Of turkeys!!

A short time later my sister and I saw a herd/group/flock of 15 about 4 miles from my house.  Someone must have been spreading the word that Thanksgiving was over and it was safe to come out. 🙂

Thanks again to our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs and Ruckus the Eskie for This ‘N That Thursday blog hop.

If You Love Pets, You MUST Follow a Pet Blogger

November 19, 2013 By Jodi

Last week I was super excited to receive a box of goodies from Hill’s.  Now typically you wouldn’t find a post about Hiill’s on my blog, as we are raw feeders and truthfully I’m not a big fan of Hill’s. MIND, I’m not knocking you if you feed Hill’s, I promise.  If it works for you and your dog, great!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Check out the goodies in this box, 1-bag Kibble, 6-cans wet food, 1-doggie food bowl, 1-doggie blanket, 1-bag baked treats.  (This box of goodies I won in a give-away on Hound Girl.)

Full disclosure: I checked out the baked treats and decided that I could use those, so I kept them (in small amounts) for Sampson and Delilah.

So I’m sure you’re wondering just why I got all excited about the package, well even though I don’t feed Hill’s I know there are rescues and shelters that are always looking for donations.  And I was super excited to be able to donate my winnings to a local rescue in my area.  As I was scoping the box out I remembered I also won some dog food from Keep the Tail Wagging and that should be coming in the next month or so!

This got me thinking, how important it is for animal lovers to follow bloggers, whether they blog or not.

Because Bloggers work with sponsors and a lot of Bloggers have contests and product giveaways!  Granted it may not be something that you can use for yourself or your pet, but food, toys, beds, etc can be donated to shelters or rescues in need.

Heck, even other items can be donated to shelters and rescues for the purposes of raffles, tag sales or auctions.  It’s a win-win for everyone involved.

Like right now, a number of my fellow bloggers are doing a Zuke’s giveaway.  I mean Zuke’s is awesome but if for some reason your pet doesn’t eat/like Zuke’s why not enter to win anyway.  Treats make great Christmas gifts for the pet lover in your life and if you don’t have anyone to give them to, you could donate them to your local shelter and help dogs like this gal, who is currently looking for her forever home.

Fetch Mama

October 23, 2013 By Jodi

K-9 Kamp Kounselor Delilah here again, updating you on all the things we are doing to get fit and keep K-9 Kamp

F.U.N.

k9kampbadge-300x300

K-9 Kamp is a fun way to help get yourself and your humans in shape, hosted by our friends Koly and Felix at Kol’s Notes, Kelly and Ike at Peggy’s Pet Place and Gretel and Chester at You Did What With Your Weiner.

Whether you’re looking to lose a few pounds, tone some jiggly spots or just out to have fun with your canine/human counter part, K-9 Kamp is the place to do it.

There are lots of awesome Kampers participating and lots of awesome prizes, so make sure you stop by the host’s blogs and check it out.

With winter on the way, we need to take advantage of the outdoors as much as we can.  Sampson and I have a goal and that’s to help The Mama get into shape and lose some of her unwanted pounds.

Shhh Mama, I’m not going to tell them how out of shape and overweight you really are.  All they have to do is look at your photos.

Photos don’t lie Mama.

A couple of years ago Sampson and I were very overweight.  We went on a strict raw diet and daily walks and we both lost about 30 pounds.  Now we look and feel great!

But what do you think happened to The Mama during that time?  Did she get lean and mean like us?

Sadly the answer is no.  The Mama has gained weight in the last couple of years and despite our daily walks she hasn’t been able to drop those unwanted pounds.

With the help of K-9 Kamp, Sampson and I set out to change that.

One of the fun things we like to do is play fetch with The Mama.

Bubbers 2

Traditionally humans play fetch by tossing an object such as a Frisbee and encouraging the dog to go and retrieve it and bring it back.

That’s not how we roll.

We put our own spin on fetch and make The Mama work.  You can see what I mean in this video.

We let The Mama throw the disc, and pretend like we are going to bring it back, except we don’t.  Sampson holds onto it, while I run back to get The Mama and encourage her to finish her retrieve.

We’re working on getting her to run back for her retrieve instead of walking.  What can I say, she’s a work in progress.

Put the effort in Mama, it will pay off.

As for Sampson and I, well sometimes we just like to play a little tug of war with that Frisbee.

It’s that little something extra, that helps keep us fit and trim.

The Mama is saying that she lost some weight this past week, but I haven’t seen the numbers on the scale, so I can’t verify that.

Rest assured Mama, Sampson and I are here to help you.  We’ll get that weight off you, I promise.

Put the donut down Mama, it’s not helping your cause.

So how are the rest of you doing?  Do you need any tips or suggestions?
