Let Me Rip It, Let Me Tear It.

February 22, 2012 By Jodi

Yes, the title is referencing a Harry Potter book.

I was in the bathroom this morning getting ready for work and listening to the dogs wrestle.  Sampson and Delilah are very verbal when they wrestle and if someone didn’t know better, they might think they were fighting.

Their play usually involves a lot of “Arghhhh” and growling, and this morning there was even some barking.  There is also play bowing and laying on their backs, twisting with joy.

Their play doesn’t usually last very long, maybe for five or ten minutes, but the sounds of them playing fill my heart with joy.  Many times when they wrestle at night Hubby and I just stop what we are doing and watch them, it is that joyful for us.

As I was applying my make-up, listening to them play I thought back to last night’s post about what a fantastic job Delilah did on her walk and how their antics had provided me with basically a year’s worth of blog material.

I thought wow, she’s doing good on her walks and decent on her recalls in the woods, what am going to be blogging about?

I heard the sound of something being ripped, and even though we buy them inexpensive toys that can be torn apart I always like to check.

Good thing.

Sampson's Bed

Yup, that’s Sampson’s bed, the one he occasionally sleeps on.  At one time I had two of these but you know how beds go.  The dogs dig at them and eventually they wear out.  I had noticed it had a small hole in it a couple of weeks ago and a bit of the stuffing had been sticking out, but I didn’t think anything of it.

Apparently Delilah had noticed it too.

I guess you’re stuck with me.

Book update: I’m still at 12,303 words.

Who's Eating The Cat Food?

February 11, 2012 By Jodi

We interrupt your regularly scheduled blog post for this special announcement.

I forgot all about the Mr. Chewy giveaway!!  After putting the comments thru random.org, the winner of the Mr. Chewy $50 gift certificate is…..drum roll please…..Mami2jcn .  Please send me your e-mail address and I will send you all the details!

Weekends are tough in my house, if I don’t have anywhere special to be it’s very easy for me to sit on the couch with my computer in my lap and just….well sit.

Hubby left early to go work on his jeep, so when I got up I fed the dogs and then Bob, made myself a cup of tea and fired up the laptop.

I was intently involved in catching up on some blog reading when a weird sound penetrated my concentration.  It was the distinct sound of a dish tapping against the wall, which meant Bob had his dish against the wall and was working it pretty good.  Then I looked up and saw Bob sitting in front of me.

Damn it Delilah!  Then I saw Delilah curled up on the couch.

When Delilah joined our pack I had hoped that some of Sampson’s good behavior would rub off on her, I certainly didn’t expect some of her bad habits to rub off on him!

He had pushed the gate that keeps the dogs out of the room in on one corner and was lying on the floor eating what was left of poor little Bob’s cat food.

I know I found it hard to believe myself, so I took a picture as proof.

If you look closely you can see how the gate is pushed in on the bottom left.

How is it that bad habits rub off, but good ones don’t?

Book update: It is the same as yesterday.

Crisis Averted

February 7, 2012 By Jodi

This morning when I dropped Sampson and Delilah off at daycare The Mellow Mutt was getting a shipment of food.  There was a large pallet, loaded and shrink wrapped sitting outside the door.

Our normal routine is to get out of the car and have a good sniff,  take a couple of piddles and then head inside.

But the pallet really had the dogs unsettled.  They were both looking at it and growling at it and cowering, like they do when they are afraid of something.   We started towards the grass, then they turned and looked back at the pallet and then they looked at me, so I thought well let’s bring them over and let them see what it is, then they won’t be afraid, right?

WRONG!

Delilah was on leash but Sampson was not.  We approached the pallet and they were both sniffing at it and then I’m pretty sure it was Delilah who jumped, which startled Sampson, but either way there was a bark or a growl and they both jumped away from the pallet!

Sampson started to run across the parking lot towards the grass, which borders the road and as I looked up a car was turning in.  Thankfully it was Paxton and his mom and his mom saw the whole thing, so she stopped.  As this was happening I shouted for Sampson and luckily for both of us he came right to me, but I’m very well aware that we could have had a far different outcome.

I immediately took the dogs inside and dropped Delilah off with Sue, by this time the delivery man had removed the hand cart and dropped the pallet.

I called Sampson to me and together we walked outside while he investigated the pallet with no adverse reaction.

Lesson learned, the next time there is something that I can see is frightening them, they both go on leash and we confront it individually with the other dog in a safe and secure place.

Book update: My book has 9,603 words.
