Why We Blog…Day Three Hundred, Thirty One

October 27, 2011 By Jodi

My day started badly.  I had an early appointment with a new Dr.  I left in plenty of time but due to some weather and accidents related to weather, I was running late.  Not the way I want to start my day or my relationship with a new Dr.

I called the office from the car and left a message on their answering service, explaining that I was running late and that my GPS was telling me I was going to be five minutes late.

My phone rang a couple of minutes later and it was the Dr.’s office telling me to “Breathe.” “It’s okay.” “Take your time; we’re here.”

I was greeted upon arrival by the receptionist with a big smile, a firm handshake and the offer of coffee or tea.  The Dr came out, introduced herself and took me back to the examine room. Where I relaxed.  At a Dr.’s office.  I immediately felt so comfortable  and I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated; almost like I’d had a cleansing chat with one of my girlfriends.

Then I got settled down and started catching up on my blog related stuff and I have to tell you; I read a really great post, that lead me to another really great post.

The first post was by Yvonne DiVita over at Blog Paws and Yvonne’s post led me to Tommy Walker’s guest post on Chris Brogan’s blog.  This awesome post “106 Excuses That Prevent You From Ever Being Great”  is amazing!  I’m not going to lie to you; this post is looooooooooong, but if you space it out, read a little; play a game of free cell, read a little more, it is so worth it.

I think this post may just be the kick in the ass I’ve been needing.

Let’s face it; we all blog for our own reasons and depending upon what those reasons are; will be the key to what you want your blog to achieve.  Personally, I want to write for a living;  my blog is my way of putting myself, my stories and my philosophies out to the world in order to determine if the world is indeed, ready for me and what I have to offer.

But I hide behind excuses as to why I can’t do something.  There I said it.  Now you know.

Honestly I didn’t even realize I was doing that; but after reading Tommy’s post I can see how I’ve been making excuses for myself and It. Has. To. Stop.

Last year I started this blog to challenge myself to write every single day; and I’ve done a pretty good job of it.  I have thirty-four more days until that challenge is completed and once it is; I am giving myself a new challenge.

I’m not really sure what it will be yet, I want to really think about it and make sure it is well thought out, but you can bet that once I have a new goal in mind I intend on sharing it with you; because you will keep me on task and honest.

In the meantime tell me, why do you blog?  What are your goals for your blog?  And how can I help you?

I'm Not Coordinated….Day Three Hundred, Thirty

October 26, 2011 By Jodi

The days are getting shorter, the sun sets earlier and walking the dogs becomes more challenging.

When time (and lack of appointments) permits, I am lucky enough to work close enough to home where I can use my lunch and grab the dogs for a quick 30 minute walk.

When time doesn’t permit, I enlist Hubby’s help and we take the dogs for a quick 20 minute walk around the block.

I wouldn’t attempt a block walk without having someone with me; even though Sampson is a good boy and listens fairly well, I prefer to have the extra help.  Sampson walks the block without a leash (although we do carry one) but he really does listen better to Hubby in that situation.

Delilah is still looking towards the house where the two dogs with the invisible fence live.  Tonight I tried to distract her with a liver treat.  I didn’t give her the treat right away, instead I held it in my hand and used it to lure her away. Except when I got her far enough away and went to give her the treat, I dropped it and when she went to snag it I accidentally kicked her in the face. 🙁

Once Sampson realized I had liver treats, he was glued to my side.

Maybe I could walk them by myself after all…

For Dianne and Rudy….Day Three Hundred, Twenty Eight

October 24, 2011 By Jodi

Every Monday evening at 10 pm (EST) people all over the world, from all different professions;  take part in “The Monday Candle Ceremony.”

No it’s not some weird ritual, or religious ceremony, it’s the simple lighting of candles in memory of a pet that has gone to the Rainbow Bridge.

Saturday my friend Dianne’s 12 year companion Rudy, went to the Rainbow Bridge.

Rudy 11/5/99 - 10/22/11

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Tonight I light my candle for Rudy and Dianne and for all of you, who have someone waiting for you at the Bridge.
