The Dog in the Dentist Chair

January 24, 2019 By Jodi

Today is National Change a Pet’s Life Day and what better day to celebrate than the launch of a book featuring amazing pets!

About three and a half years ago, I reviewed Peggy Frezon’s book, Faithfully Yours. (You can read that review, HERE.)

I’m back today, to talk about her newest book, “The Dog in the Dentist Chair.”

The Dog in the Dentist Chair is a collection of short stories geared towards elementary and early middle school aged children. It is a book about animals, hope and love.

It is a book about all kinds of animals,  not just dogs, but also bunnies, pigs, cats, horses, birds and even camels and of the many ways these amazing animals interact with and help people.

I have to be honest, I loved this book.

The stories are short, but well written and in my opinion, completely relatable to children.

I love how every story explained what disability the service animal helped, and how the person with the disability related to the service animal.

I love how there was a home-life story about the animal, what they liked to do, favorite things to eat, etc.

I love how the book approached sensitive topics, such as autism and bullying.

I can picture this book at a child’s bedside or in a classroom and the stories being used as a starting point to open a dialog about difficult topics.

My granddaughter just turned eight and I cannot wait to get a hard copy I can send to her.

Disclaimer, I received an electronic copy of The Dog in the Dentist Chair in exchange for promoting this book.

The Dog in the Dentist Chair is written by Peggy Frezon. It is a book about hope, love and the amazing bond animals have with humans. It is available today, from Paraclete Press .

Oh, and one more thing.  There really is a dog in the dentist’s chair.

Stray Magic – A Jackie Bouchard Original

October 10, 2017 By Jodi

Jackie Bouchard and her beautiful dog, Rita.

I am a big fan of Jackie Bouchard and her books. I’ve read every one of them, and I honestly think her writing gets better with each one.

Jackie has a way of making her characters seem like real people. They have fears, insecurities, and idiosyncrasies just like the rest of us do. Jackie’s characters are easy to relate to, without seeming over-the-top or neurotic. In fact, I often find myself reading a passage with my head bobbing along and thinking, I do that too. So, it’s not just me?

This gal here grew up with the Brothers Grimm, and all the classic fairy tales. I fell in love with Harry Potter when the series came out, and am a big fan of Lord of the Rings. I’m constantly on the hunt for good books about magic. So, when I found out that Jackie’s latest book, “Stray Magic,” is an adult fairy tale, I couldn’t wait to read it.

Disclaimer, I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest option. Heart Like a Dog will never share or endorse anything we don’t use, o r believe in ourselves.

Stray Magic did not disappoint me. Without giving too much away… single for the first time in ages, with her daughter heading off to college, Cara is experiencing the empty nester syndrome. Her ex is already moving on, her boss is a jerk and her love life is pretty non-existent. THAT’s when she discovers she has a Fairy Godfather, who doesn’t quite fit the image we all have of a fairy anything. It’s also when the hilarity ensues as he vows to grant the wish he was supposed to grant 25 years earlier. There are also a couple of hold your breath moments, as life can get a bit hairy when you have a Fairy Godfather like Vincent.

Stray Magic, a Jackie Bouchard original

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Jackie Bouchard book without a dog, and as you can see from the cover, Llewlyn is a Corgi. Actually, there’s more than one dog, because Cara, (like Jackie) volunteers at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.

As I said, I’ve loved all of Jackie’s books and Stray Magic is no exception. I give this book four paws up! It is warm, funny, and true to life, with relatable characters.

Oh, and guess what? It’s available today on Amazon.

What are you waiting for? Go. Go order it. Now.

Faithfully Yours…The Tour

October 6, 2015 By Jodi

Today we’re participating in Faithfully Yours, the blog tour. You may remember we shared the book trailer at the end of August. Well it’s finally here and those of you who pre-ordered the book already know what I’m going to say. But before I get to the nitty gritty of it, I have to let you know that I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. That being said, Heart Like a Dog only shares content and products we feel are relevant to our readers. fy blog tour button

If you watched the trailer you know that Faithfully Yours is a book about the bond between humans and animals. I know the bond I have with my dogs, and I was excited to read other stories of humans and animals bonding.

This book was written by Peggy Frezon, author of Dieting with My Dog, The Dieting With My Dog Guide to Weight Loss and Maintenance and Heart to Heart Hand in Paw. Peggy writes at Guideposts Magazine and is a contributor to Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul.

Peggy has always been an animal lover and rescued her first dog when she was a very young child. (You’ll read about Happy in the book.) She currently lives with her two rescue dogs, Kelly and Ike. (Oh and her husband Mike too!)

Faithfully Yours is broken down into chapters, with each chapter reflecting the theme of one particular trait. For instance in the section about rescue…you’ll find stories about pets rescuing or being rescued.

You may have already heard some of these stories either on Facebook or the Internet, but Peggy did her research, contacting people and digging deep to really get the whole story.

One of the things I really loved about this book, was the way the stories were broken out and each story was complete on its own. You could probably say it is a collection of short stories.

I like to read when I go to bed, and reading at bedtime makes me tired. With Peggy’s book I was able to complete the story before turning in and not worry about re-reading a page or two the next night, trying to figure out where I was in the story.

I don’t want to give a lot away, but I will tell you if you like books that warm your heart, then you must read Faithfully Yours and right now I have a way for one lucky person to receive a free copy.

It’s super easy.  You can enter to win a copy by commenting on this blog and letting me know you’d like to enter. You can also visit the rest of the blogs participating in the tour and leave comments on their blogs in order to increase your chances. At the end of the tour, Peggy will randomly select one person to win.

If you just want to get a second opinion or are interested in learning more about Faithfully Yours,  here are the rest of the stops on Peggy’s Tour. (Some people were ambitious and interviewed Peggy, but I was lazy and waited too long didn’t.)
