Day Thirty Nine – Snow

January 8, 2011 By Jodi

I love the beauty and quiet of the snow.  This morning when I woke up (at 6:45!) I stepped out on the screen porch to get some wood for the fire and I stopped for a moment to enjoy the quiet.  I’m not really sure what it is, but it’s almost like civilization has stopped.  I didn’t hear or see any animals, no noise from cars (or snowblowers, which is what I’m listening to now at 7:30!) just peace and beauty; because when you have enough snow to muffle the everyday sounds of life, that is what you have peace and beauty.

My back yard

It made me wish my screen porch has glass windows, because even though it would be cold it sure couldn’t be as cold as a screen!  Maybe if I go sit on the pool table, I can look out the window at the beauty of the snow, before the sun comes out and it starts to melt, or the dogs and animals track through it, or Chet uses the snow thrower to move it about.

Day Thirty Eight – Why can't I develop a style?

January 7, 2011 By Jodi

So seriously, I’m not giving up on writing but I still can’t figure out how to find my style or voice.  I have been checking out other people’s websites, blogs etc and they all seem good; then I look back at mine and I don’t think it is as good.  So what can I do to fix it?  I certainly don’t want to give up writing but I can’t seem to put out a blog that I’m happy with.

I signed up for a pet writing conference in NYC in February, one of the seminars is blog writing, I’m really hoping it will be available when I get there so I can take that seminar.   I think I will also see if there are any adult education classes available in my area or creative writing classes at my local college.

Day Thirty Seven – Why do I play games on facebook?

January 6, 2011 By Jodi

Why do I play games on facebook?  I started playing “Mafia Wars” because my son-in-law needed my assistance in joining in his mafia.  Well I was hooked, so I played my little heart out every minute that I had.  In the morning before work I would go in a “do a job” and I joined Mafia Wars groups and added more and more people to my friends list and grew my “mob,” and then somebody would come along and beat me up and rob me.  So I switched to Farmtown and my kids laughed at me; they said it was lame.

But I farmed my little heart out, every chance I got.  Look at my cute little farm I would say, I’ve got a little house, with a flower garden and an orchard, and look at my animals.  I had so many dogs (and dog houses) that my friend called me the ASPCA of Farmtown.  Then my kids started farming, but they were on Farmville, so I had to join to be their neighbor and help them out.  But Farmville really started ticking me off.  Every time I would get my farm just right, something new would come along and I would have to “have a wedding” or “build a bakery” so I got bored and started playing Social City.

Social City wasn’t all that bad, most of the stuff I needed was stuff I could purchase and I didn’t need to rely on my neighbors and friends to send me stuff.  I grew Stoneville to a population of just under a million.  Then I got bored. I tried Frontierville but couldn’t figure it out.  So I stopped.  But then my daughter started playing and she told me how to play, so I started it again.

I’ve been playing it now for a while but no-one does what I ask!!  I send them the stuff they ask for and I say, “I really need building materials” and they send me fruitcake.  I ask for paint and they send me donkeys.  I sent my Farmville friends gifts and said, “don’t send me anything, I don’t have time to play.”  I just cleaned out my box and had 25 gifts; since yesterday. I just don’t get it.  When I’m actively playing a game I can’t get people to send me what I need.  Maybe I should stop playing Frontierville and my saw mill will get built. 🙂
