I Spoke Too Soon….Day Two Hundred, Fifty Two

August 9, 2011 By Jodi

Before I get to the gist of this post I have a major announcement to make.

Today I FINALLY finished the page about Delilah’s health issues.  You can read about it here, but I must warn you it is extremely long.

So yesterday I was writing about how good the dogs were going to and from the car without leashes.  Today when we stepped outside, there was someone in the neighbor’s yard and both dogs ran right for him.

Sampson hung right around him, but once Delilah had greeted him she took off for the neighbor’s back yard and ignored me completely.  I had to walk into the back yard and grab her by the collar in order to get her in the car.

Then we got to the park and found something in the field.  I called her and could see her chewing as she ran towards me.  I grabbed her by the neck (I swear I lost my head) and I was patting her back saying, “Drop it! Drop it! Drop it!”  She swallowed it.

A bit later on, she was (once again) ignoring me, so I stopped to give Sampson some treats and she busted in between and ate his treats!

I need to be careful when I brag about how good they are! 🙂

Look Before You Leap…Day Two Hundred, Fifty One

August 8, 2011 By Jodi

Yesterday was my last day of vacation and I had the hardest time getting up off the couch and finding my motivation.

It didn’t help that Delilah got me up at 6:20 am and it was pouring out.  I wasn’t up to walking the dogs in the rain so we decided to wait it out and see what happened.

The rain finally stopped and the sun came out with all the humidity. 🙁  I managed to drag myself to the grocery store and as soon as the groceries were put away, I found myself back on the couch.

Around 5:30 I finally decided it was now or never so I prepped the dogs and myself for a walk.

I’ve been working with Delilah going in and out of the house without her leash.  It is a lot of trust on my part, because one time she darted across the street to confront out neighbor….in HIS yard.  Yeah, that was embarrassing.

When she is excited for her walk it is a good chance to test her and have her succeed.  I usually check to make sure there are no cars coming and no-one walking down the street.  I open the door and say, “Go to the car.”  She has been doing very well at this.

Yesterday I checked as usual and opened the door.  Sampson made his way down the steps and over to the car.  Delilah took off, straight across the lawn!  I was caught off guard and could not see what she was heading for until…

I saw it leap about two feet off the ground.

She darn near almost caught it too!

If it hadn’t ducked into its hole in the ground.

Sooner or later she is bound to catch one.   Which brings me to a most important question.

What happens if Delilah eats a chipmunk?  Can it hurt her?

Favor Please…Day Two Hundred, Fifty

August 7, 2011 By Jodi

I’m having a hard time trying to write this blog tonight.  Today was my last day of vacation and I find myself highly unmotivated.

I do have something I could use your help on though.

Would you please watch this video and in the comments tell me what you see?

I will explain this strange request in my “Follow-up Friday” post.

Thanks!
