Follow-Up Friday….Day Two Hundred, Fifty Five

August 12, 2011 By Jodi

I have lots to cover in my Follow-Up Friday feature:

Favor Please – Author’s Note:

Saturday morning I took Sampson and Delilah on a walk with a couple of our hiking buds.  In the field the dogs started to play and I took a video.  Delilah was the chocolate lab with the purple collar; initially it was just Delilah and Brady (the chocolate with the orange collar) but they were soon joined by Kodak (the golden) and Tea’ (the shepherd.)  Besides the mounting, I thought the dogs were playing appropriately.

Delilah is an Alpha Female and I expect other dogs will try to exert their dominance.  Delilah is very capable of letting them know when she has had enough.

When I got home and was showing the video to hubby, he said, “I hate when they antagonize her.”  Wow, I was totally caught off guard with that comment and since I didn’t perceive it the same way, I thought I should throw it out to blogland.

It was generally understood that the “humping” was a dominance issue instead of sexual; and the video was more playful in nature.

Shows how far apart hubby and I are when it comes to the dogs. 🙁

Look Before You Leap – Author’s Note:

One of my readers’ wrote in to say that her dog, caught and ate the chipmunk and promptly vomited it up!   EWWWW thanks for that visual Donna. I have now added “Please don’t let Delilah catch a chipmunk” to my prayer list. 🙂

Dogs and Cats – Update:

Wednesday night Bob was so snug between the two dogs on the bed, that he was actually touching Delilah’s foot.

Last night he got up on the bed and Delilah growled at him. 🙁  I let it play out and he got down with no blood shed. 😉

Junk In The Trunk – Author’s Note:

Some of you caught this in the comments and have already commented on it;  I forgot to mention (because I was in a hurry to post) that Sara agreed to let me teach a clicker class!   I appreciate all of your support and will definitely keep you posted on this new venture.

Junk In The Trunk….Day Two Hundred, Fifty Four

August 11, 2011 By Jodi

Our training center is about three weeks to a month shy of being ready for classes; so Thursday night obedience class was once again held outside.

Honestly, I think the dogs like it more.  There is much more room to spread out and I think there is less personality clash then there is in a small enclosed area.

Look at these two Weimaraner’s, they made such a beautiful picture.

After class was over, Sara clipped Sampson and Delilah’s nails.  Honestly I can do it myself, but Sara is much quicker at it.  Besides I was waiting for the right opportunity to approach her about teaching a clicker class. 🙂

We were standing by Sara’s car when Delilah decided there was something of interest in Sara’s trunk.

Delilah began her investigation.

Apparently she was not satisfied with her position on the ground.

She climbed all the way into the trunk.

Yes my friends, that is my crazy lab in the trunk of a Honda, Accord.

Dogs And Cats….Day Two Hundred, Fifty Three

August 10, 2011 By Jodi

I’ve noticed something about Sampson.

He’s a little strange around the cat.

Sometimes it seems like he is almost trying to play with Bob.  He runs up to him, his tail is up and he has a playful light in his eyes, his posture indicates he wants to play.

There are other times when he chases the cat.  Like this morning, Bob came into the bedroom and I said, “Hi Bob.”  Sampson bolted off the bed and chased Bob from the room.

Still other times when Bob is waiting near a door and Sampson won’t walk through the door because of Bob.  He is a 90 pound dog and won’t walk past a 10 pound cat!

There have been instances when Bob has climbed up on the bed and laid down between the dogs and they have all slept.

And yet last night Sampson wouldn’t bring his treat on the bed because Bob was there.

Bob is the same way.

Sometimes he comes in and lays right next to the dogs on the bed; or will look out the window with Delilah.

He drinks from the dog’s water bowl.

Then he turns around and swats at them as they walk past.

I guess that is just dogs and cats.  What about your animals?  How do they get along?
