Obedience And Agility…Day Three Hundred, Forty Five

November 10, 2011 By Jodi

Tonight at the half-way mark of our drop-in obedience class, Sara took out some agility equipment.

The A-Frame, See-Saw and Dog Walk.

My favorite little lab mix Zoe was there and I have been itching to get Zoe on the agility equipment to see if we can help her and her mom Marcie, gain some confidence.

I offered to try Zoe on the Dog Walk, I used a treat and up she went, like she was an old pro! She was just as good on the A-Frame, in fact the only equipment she was hesitant on was the See-Saw, she went on it well enough, she just wasn’t expecting the quick drop once she reached the top.

You may remember Maggie from an earlier post where we worked on getting her through the tunnel, this time we used the treats to get her up and over the dog walk.  She did fantastic!

Sampson did the A-Frame and the Dog Walk, but he really doesn’t care for the See-Saw, Delilah of course LOVES the agility and will do just about anything for a speck of food as evidenced in the photo below.

The Green Monster….Day Three Hundred, Forty Four

November 9, 2011 By Jodi

Hubby and I were chatting in the car.  I mentioned something about Sampson and how cute he was and Hubby said, “He kills me.”

Naturally I was puzzled, “What do you mean?” I asked.

“The way he ignores me,” was his response.

“Oh, he ignores me too,” I brushed it off.

“When I come home, he runs right to the back door to go out, when you come home he tears from wherever he is to the door to greet you.” He said.

It really is cute when he does it.  Sampson has this little “RooooooooRooooooo” he does when he is excited or happy.  I’ve been trying to capture it on video but each time I have the camera ready, he doesn’t do it. 🙁

I tried to appease him, “Well honey, I walk them almost every day, I give them lots of treats.”

“Yeah….I guess,” he said.

But secretly I smiled inside.

Is that wrong?

Seriously how can you not want that smile to be for you?

Tasty Tuesday, Day Three Hundred, Forty Three

November 8, 2011 By Jodi

If you’ve been following this blog you know Sampson and Delilah are spoiled.

When I fell in love with Sampson I was determined to do everything in my power to ensure he is with me for a long time to come.

Originally I had him on California Natural for kibble, but once Delilah came to live with us and it was determined that raw food was best for her, that’s what we switched to.

Initially they went on raw to help them lose weight, since we were reducing their food intake and eliminating a bunch of carbohydrates I was concerned they might be hungry.  I supplemented their raw food with some green beans.

Our mentor in the raw food program suggested frozen green beans and advised me to put them through the food processor since dogs don’t digest veggies.  WHAT?  Yes, that is what she said, so every morning I am chopping up green beans.  For a filler.

I also like to give them a little bit of yogurt every day and sometimes a little bit of pumpkin.  I found out quite by accident a couple of weeks back that pumpkin is extremely filling.

Since that time I’ve been stretching my pumpkin and yogurt by making Yumkin.  My word.  I made it up. Stick around and you’ll find I make up lots of words.  Ever heard of Fabu, yeah, that one’s mine too, made it up on vacation in North Carolina in 2004.

Sorry, I digress…. here’s what you need for Yumkin.

1 32 oz container of yogurt ( I use plain because the dogs are on diets, if you want to use this for yourself you will probably want vanilla or at the very least a bit of honey added to it.)

1 28 oz can of pumpkin

1 empty yogurt container

Open the yogurt and place approximately half of the yogurt into the empty container.  Now take the pumpkin and put half of the can into each yogurt container and mix it up.

That’s it.  It’s so easy and the puppies love it.

The pumpkin makes it filling and the yogurt has good bacteria which is excellent for their digestion.

The pumpkin also helps make the yogurt a little bit thicker if you want to use it to top off the end of a Kong. 🙂
