Blogville Love

January 3, 2012 By Jodi

People get to know each other by sharing.

Case in point, about 6 weeks ago I met my friend Margaret at a baby shower.  You may remember me speaking about Margaret (and her awesome dog, Chase) in this post.

When I ran into Margaret she gave me a warm hug and said, “I feel like I know you so much better because I read your blog.”

No matter how or what we write about, we end up sharing bits of ourself.   What I have learned about the awesome people who share my blogosphere is that they are kind and very generous.

When I wrote my post about the Kreativ Blogger and Liebster Award I also said I had another award to share with you.  I know you have all been on pins and needles waiting for it, so without further ado, I will reveal that I have been given “The Collie’s Choice Award” from my dear blogging friend Misty Shores Chesapeakes.

If you haven’t checked Misty out yet you should pop over and see what she’s up to.  Her sweet Chessie, Riva recently had a litter and Misty decided to keep two of the pups!  I can’t believe it either, I thought housebreaking, training and raising one puppy was tough!

Ok, truthfully Sampson was an easy dog to housebreak and raise.  I can’t complain about HIM.

Delilah on the other hand, well good lord you can’t imagine the things she’s gotten into these past three days.  I will simply say, we are down to our last half stick of butter and leave it at that.  Actually I do have more to say, but I am saving that for my Follow-Up Friday post, when I update “Death by Chocolate.”

Sooo.. on to the Collie’s Choice Award, you may have noticed the badge in the side-bar, I had never heard of the Collie’s of the Meadow before being bestowed the award.  I just popped over there and read an account of a re-enactment of Custer’s Last Stand; Collie style.  Somehow I think it was fabricated JUST a bit, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide.

The Collie’s Choice award is given to “The Best of the Net.”   If you’ve been given the award you are encouraged to pass it along.

That’s it.  No other rules.  No sharing of intimate things.  No linking to past posts.  Just pass it along.

I’ve given this a lot of thought and I have decided to pass the award along to Kristine at Rescued Insanity.

If you’ve been around the blogosphere at all, chances are you read Kristine’s blog or you’ve seen a well thought out comment with her name next to it.

If for some strange reason you’ve never heard of Kristine, well I can truthfully say, you don’t know what you are missing.   Kristine works extensively with her dog Shiva and in MHO they are both serious blog stars.  If you enjoy Delilah’s stories, well you will enjoy Shiva’s just as much.

Thanks once again to Misty Shores.

Death By Chocolate

January 2, 2012 By Jodi

I have a dessert recipe for Death By Chocolate, it is one of the all-time favorites on my holiday table.

I won’t share the recipe here (but if you want it, send me an e-mail and I’ll shoot it over to you) but I will say it involves chocolate cake, a variation of chocolate pudding, Skor bars and cool whip.  And yes, it’s good.

When I was attending college in my Effective Speaking Class, one of the required speeches was a ‘Persuasive Speech.”  Being the oh so clever being that I am, I decide to try to persuade people to choose their death, by chocolate.  I enlisted my friend’s help to carry in the HUGE bowl of DBC.   I also had paper plates and utensils and while I was giving the speech, my friend was passing it out.

I started by saying something along the lines of, “If you could choose the manner of your death, what would you choose?  Would you choose death by hanging, or heart attack”  well you get the idea.

I then went on to say, “I would choose my death by CHOCOLATE,” at which point I whipped off the covering from the bowl and revealed the decadent dessert.

When I stated I wanted my death to be by chocolate, I meant the chocolate sweetness of dessert, not death by the paws of a chocolate lab named Delilah.

If you are my friend on facebook, you know I spent part of New Year’s Eve in my local emergency room.

Here’s what happened.

It was cool, not cold on New Year’s Eve.  We had fog hanging around all day and as the afternoon waned the fog got a bit thicker.

The dogs and I headed out to the trails shortly after 3:00 pm, because of the thickness of the fog and the moisture on the ground I decided to stick to the upper trails and not venture onto the steeper ones.

The light area in the back of the picture is our field.

I kept hold of Delilah’s lead because the fog was so thick and dense and I was afraid to lose her in it.  We had just completed our first pass and were heading down from the woods via the large rocks.

I told Delilah, “Easy” and “Wait” which she did.

I had reached the bottom of the rocks with my feet on good old Terra firma when I said, “OK, good girl, good wait.”

Delilah took the “OK” as her opportunity to explore the field (which she should.)

She took off at a dead run giving me a really hard tug.

It happened so fast I didn’t have the opportunity to drop the leash.  I remember my feet moving quickly as I was propelled forward and a very hard SLAM as my shoulder hit the ground.

I sat there for a minute looking across the field at my dogs who were frolicking about.  My right shoulder and upper arm were in agony.  I wasn’t sure if I had broken my arm or dislocated my shoulder.

Thankfully although all my pockets were full, I didn’t land on anything.  My right arm instinctively moved into the Pledge of Allegiance position which put it in close proximity to my cell phone, which was in an interior pocket on the left-hand side of my jacket. I managed to get my cell phone out and by holding it close to my right hand, I dialed Hubby’s number.

Meanwhile Delilah decided to come back to check on me and managed to dance around me to the point that I was now tangled up in her leash.

Hubby said, “Do you need me to come and get you.”

But the longer I sat there getting my bearings the better I felt.

I said, “No, I am going to finish this walk.”

And we did.

Once we were all back at the house I immediately iced my arm.

I’m not usually an alarmist when it comes to illness or injury and tend to err on the side of caution.  I know my body and I normally know when it needs medical attention.  After about an hour I decided it did.  So I drove myself to emergency and had an x-ray.

Thankfully there was nothing broken or dislocated and while the Physician’s Assistant send me home with a sling, she preferred I didn’t wear it, opting instead to use my arm, which I did.

The more time passed, the better my arm felt and I am happy to report I have almost 100% mobility again, and only about 5% pain.

I can’t say 2011 left me without a whimper. 🙂

By the way, I did get an A on the speech.

Hello 2012

January 1, 2012 By Jodi

Happy New Year!

I hope you enjoyed your New Year’s celebrations and everyone made it home safely, with little lasting effects from last night’s revelry.

I thought I would start the new year off on a nice note by sharing some exciting news with you.

Once again I have been blessed with the Liebster and Kreativ Blogger awards, thanks go out to Married With Dawgs for bestowing both of these awards to us!

Back about three weeks ago, I was awarded the Kreativ Blogger award by our friend at 2 Brown Dawgs, I am going to cheat and just give you the link to that post. :-0

The Liebster Award means dearest blog and is awarded to blogs with less than 200 readers.  The Liebster award doesn’t require I share anything with you.  😛  But it does require I pass it on to five other blogs.

So here they are in no particular order….well ok they are alphabetical.  I lied.

George Flores –  George’s posts vary, you might get a post about a sport he enjoys watching, or a post about his frustration with the cable company, but no matter what he writes you can bet it will be a good read. 🙂

Just Ramblin’ – Just Ramblin’ added a sweet Newfie to her household this past year, she has been sharing her journey on her blog and trust me when I say, this is one blog you NEED to check out.  She has such wisdom, she really inspires me.

Live, Bark, Love – She just shared that the dog she has been fostering isn’t a foster anymore!  Yay!  One more in their forever home!

The Dog Park – I love this blog, she refers to her dog as OBF (Our Best Friend) which sold me immediately!  So far from what I read she mostly talks about her dog, which sits pretty well with me. 🙂

The Poodle And Dog Blog – Jan has been blogging for over 10 years!  Can you believe it?  Jan always finds the greatest things to share, her shared video “Alex Unchained” was just so awesome!

I hope you’ll check out these blogs, I’m sure you’ll enjoy them as much as I do.

Don’t forget to check back, I have another award I will be sharing this week.
