This ‘N That Thursday

September 13, 2012 By Jodi

Today we’re joining our friends over at 2 Brown Dawgs Blog on This ‘N That Thursday.  As 2 Brown Dawgs says, This ‘N That Thursday is for times when you want to post about unrelated topics or each topic isn’t quite long enough to make up a whole post.  It can be anything you want, so feel free to grab the button and join us!

Blog Hops

I’m working hard on developing a following on this blog and am always looking for ways to increase readership.

One of the ways to do this is by blog hops.  I currently know of blog hops that take place on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

I’d considered making Follow-up Friday into a Blog Hop, but wasn’t sure if there was an interest in it.  During one of his comments, Hawk at Brown Dog CBR mentioned his human would be interested in taking part in a Follow-up Friday blog hop.

I figure what the hell, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Since I have no experience with organizing a blog hop, it may take me a bit of time to figure it out, but I’m willing to try.

I’m structuring the FUF a little bit differently than the traditional blog hop.

I’d like to share the opportunity to increase readers with other blogs that want to grow, in order to do this, I will make the FUF a co-hosted event.

The twist is there will be a different co-host each week.

If you’d be interested in participating in or co-hosting a FUF post, please let me know in the comments.

For right now, I will take people in the order they show interest.  I will keep a running tab and can announce every Friday who the next Friday’s co-host will be.

The other thought I have is to promote this blog hop to other bloggers, not just pet bloggers, this might open up a whole new avenue of readers.

I will be working on a new badge for this event as well.  Here’s what I’m thinking for the badge, two sets of footprints, human and dog across the width of the badge.

The slogan will be Follow-Up Friday, the not-just-for-pet-bloggers blog hop, that wraps up your week and leads you right into the weekend. (I got this one from a comment left by Long Life Cats and Dogs.) 😉

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Now if we can convince 2BrownDawgs into making This ‘N That Thursday into a blog hop, all the days will be covered. 😉

Pictures

I have a little point and shoot camera that is almost always in my back pocket on our walks.  A few days ago I snapped these pictures and I thought they were so pretty, I just had to share.

When I was framing this shot (if you can call it that) I kept saying, “Don’t go towards the light Sampson, don’t go towards the light.”

As you can see, Delilah is back on her 15 foot leash.

Do you have any ideas on how to caption these photos?

Oh and don’t forget to leave me your thoughts and suggestions for a Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop.

W.T.F./Whoo Hoo Wednesday

September 12, 2012 By Jodi

Please note this post is not meant to make light of the deeds described here, only to make fun of, ridicule, bully and just plain beat the shit out of the idiots who commit these stupid acts.

My W.T.F. is directed (once again) to the Stone Manor canines.

First to Delilah who got her days mixed up and thought yesterday was Monday Mischief.  Look what I found when I stepped out of the bedroom yesterday morning.

Two pounds, the damn thing weighs two pounds!

Yes folks, that’s a two-pound candle, still in the box, that Delilah removed from the counter, opened and chewed up the protective sponge.

A few short steps later in the living room I found one of my youngest daughter’s Christmas ornaments that was slated to be repaired.  No hope for the kitty cat ornament now.

All chewed up and ready for the garbage.

I know I could have saved this for a Monday Mischief post, but trust me, she will provide more material.

And Sampson, you didn’t think you could get out of this post did you big boy?

W.T.F. were you thinking on our walk yesterday?  I look to you to be a dog ambassador not a dogdozer.  First you ran over poor Sadie, then you snapped at her twice.

Certainly not behavior I expect from you, keep it up pal and you’ll be on a leash too.

Hey, it was a light W.T.F. week (you won’t get any complaints from me!) So I’ll turn my attention to the Whoo Hoo portion of this post.

Small Pit Bull Abandoned on Busy Highway, Watsonville, CA

I know what you’re thinking, you’re thinking W.T.F. is she smoking?  How can an abandoned dog be a Whoo Hoo?

I say it’s a Whoo Hoo because whoever abandoned this dog could have done any number of horrible things to it, but they didn’t.

They could have dropped the dog off at a kill shelter where it might have been euthanized, but they didn’t.

They could have taken the dog to a remote location and let it go, leaving it to die of dehydration or hunger, but they didn’t.

They could have dropped the dog on the side of the highway and risked it getting hit by a car, but they didn’t.

Instead, they tied the dog out where someone would be sure to see it, and where it would become a newsworthy story.  We all know the dogs that make the news get adopted.

While I could chastise whoever it was for abandoning the dog without food, water or shelter, I have to give a big Whoo Hoo that the dog was found and probably will be adopted very soon.

Blogger helps reunite homeless veteran with lost dog, Utah

This was a great story and shows the power of blogging.  A homeless veteran who lives the nomadic life met up with a blogger a few months ago.  The two exchanged phone numbers.

A short while later the man woke up one morning and his dog (Timber) was gone.  He searched and searched for the dog but had to leave the area due to wildfires.

He contacted the woman he had met and she wrote about his lost dog on her blog, rvsue and her canine crew..  She fully expected the story would have a sad and heartbreaking ending, but it didn’t!

One of her readers started checking around the internet for found dogs and located Timber, he was in Arizona.  A short time later, Rusty and Timber were reunited once again.

Blog Power!

Finally this video came across my facebook page and made me cry. I haven’t been able to find the full story, but apparently this young woman was incarcerated for 3 1/2 years during which time her parents took care of her dog.

Their reunion was so sweet.

Do you believe someone actually wrote, “It’s ok to cry when watching this video.” LOL Like a dog lover needs to be told cry when they see a dog reunited with its owner. 🙂

How was your week?  Did anything come across your desk that made you shake your head W.T.F or scream Whoo Hoo?

What’s Your Pooping Style?

September 11, 2012 By Jodi

There are two kinds of pooping people.

The people who won’t poop unless they’re in their own home. (You know you know people like this.)  They are the people who leave the party early because mother nature is calling.

I had a friend arrive extremely late to a bowling match once, what took you so long I asked.

She had to go home for something, her partner told me.

Oh, she had to drop a deuce?

Her partner laughed, yup.

She’d also run home in the middle of a work day if the urge came upon her.

In. The. Middle. Of. A. Work. Day.

To take a poop.  Even though she could have used any number of rest rooms.

Then there are the people who really don’t care where they poop. They’ll poop in the bathroom at work, in a supermarket or a gas station bathroom, on the side of the road if need be, or behind a building.

The ones who come out of the bathroom at the party waving their arms saying, don’t go in there for a few minutes, musta been something I ate. Does anyone have a match?

While I’m normally not so bold to say hey don’t go in there, I definitely will find a place to go when I need to. (Remind me to share the pee story on the NY Thru way, that’s a classic.)

Yes there are definitely two different kinds of pooping styles.

I would like to take this a step farther and argue the point that dogs have different pooping styles too.

Sampson’s style is more like my friends.  He goes a good 40 to 50 feet of the trail, hunches over and gives you the excuse me, do you mind, I’m trying to pinch a loaf here look.

Many times I’ve called over to him only to say, sorry dude, didn’t realize you were taking a poop.

If you look closely you can see him just to the right of the two white birch trees. He is mostly hidden by a bunch of small trees.

I’ve mentioned before that some people have commented, Delilah is me in a dog’s body.  We are both stubborn, strong-willed, persistent, resourceful and usually get what we want.

It’s no surprise to me then that Delilah has a similar pooping style to mine.

She will go wherever and whenever.

What do you mean sidewalks aren’t for pooping?  Isn’t that why you carry poop bags?  You sure as woof aren’t picking up garbage.

Criminy mom, at least I’m off the trail. Do you mind?

What?  Oh pardon me, I didn’t realize you were going to walk right there, we are in the woods after all.  Excuse me, while I crank a steamer.

Yes, I would say my dogs definitely have two different pooping styles.

Have you noticed your dog’s pooping style? Do you have a shy Sampson or a daring Delilah?
