Close Encounters of the White Kind

November 18, 2012 By Jodi

Just about the only benefit (as far as I’m concerned) to not having any leaves on the trees is visibility. Normally speaking I can clearly see the trail ahead of me at this time of year.

Last weekend as the dogs and I headed up to the woods, I saw Sampson stiffen, which is normally what he does when he sees somebody.

I was still a ways back but could just make out the white in the field, but I couldn’t tell what it was.

Who is it?

At first I asked him to wait, but as I got a bit closer I could see who it was, so I gave them free rein.

I watched them as I got closer, Sampson approached cautiously.

What is IT?

It looks like a big pile of I don’t know what.

Once he was close enough to discover what it was, he was fine.

Delilah (no surprises here) charged right up to it.

Snap, it’s only snow. I thought it was the Stay Puft Marshmallow man.

For a second I thought he was going to pee on it, but that passed. Phew!  Imagine poor Frosty with a big old yellow tie.

Of course, this weekend it was all gone, nothing left but a photo to even show it was there.

Has your dog ever encountered something like a snowman?  What was his/her reaction?

The Dogs of Blogville Calendar

I’d like to apologize for all of you having problems with the voting.  I’ve checked the settings on the poll and don’t understand why some people are having problems voting.

Misaki said, “Weirdly the poll didn’t seem to work on firefox, thankfully I still have IE still installed.”  As of now that is my only suggestion.  Try a different browser.  There are certain blogs I follow that for some reason don’t work in Firefox but they work just fine on Internet Explorer.  I’m sorry I can’t be of any more help with this.

I would suggest keep trying or trying shutting your browser off and trying again.  This morning when I was promoting on facebook my friends were telling me how the voting was going, but I couldn’t see it.

This is my first time using the WP Polls and I admit I don’t know a lot about it.

Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest

November 17, 2012 By Jodi

So at long last (at least it seems like that since the idea first fermented in my head) here is the Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest.

Here are the rules according to me:

  • One vote per IP/Cookie per 24 hour period (if I set the voting portion up correctly, this will work.)  If I didn’t please be kind and follow the rules.  This is a fun event to raise money for some fellow bloggers, so please be fair.
  • Promote this contest, just because you only have one ip/cookie address doesn’t mean you can’t promote this on your blog and through your other forms of social media.
  • Voting begins today at 6:00 am, and it ends next Saturday, November 24th at 6:00 am (once again that’s if I’ve set the voting plug-in up properly.  If I haven’t I will go in and manually close the poll.)
  • The proceeds from the sale of the calendars (after production costs and shipping) will be donated to our blogville friends in need at Life with Desmond and Champion of My Heart.  How much the proceeds are will depend on how many calendars are sold. I’d like to keep the cost at about $20 per calendar (including shipping) the more we sell the less we pay for the calendars and the more we can donate.

Some random stuff you might want to know.

As of right now I think I will be using Vistaprint to make the calendars as I am very familiar with their products and have had good luck with them. If anyone has any better printing options PLEASE contact me directly or leave it in the comments.

When you are promoting this contest, please let your followers know that they will be able to purchase calendars also.

Anyone that wants to purchase calendars, send me an e-mail at stone.jodi@ymail.com and I will send you my paypal information.

I will not order a calendar for you unless you have already paid for it.

My goal is to have the calendars into as many hands as possible by Christmas.

Well here they finally are. The dogs of Blogville.

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

November 16, 2012 By Jodi

Well I dropped the co-hosting ball for this post.  I did send an e-mail out but it must have been too late, so I’m winging it.  If anyone is interested in co-hosting, please let me know in the comments.

This is the Follow-up Friday blog hop, you know sometimes you write a post that requires a follow-up or someone posts a comment that makes you think.  Yup, Follow-up Friday.  Grab the badge and link up.

The Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest – Update

The submission portion of this contest is now closed.  All told I received 20 photos.  They have all been uploaded for a future post, which I hope to have up for either Saturday or Sunday.  I loaded them all using the Gallery option on wordpress and for some reason it is not presenting them the way I want it to.

Then there’s the little challenge of figuring out how to have people vote.  I’m currently looking at polling plug-ins for word press.

Poll daddy’s free account limits me to 10 questions (or pictures as the case may be) and right now I don’t have the money to upgrade to the premium account.  If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

I really don’t want to have to count comments….:-)

Canine Olympics – Author’s Note

The post originally didn’t start off to be an Olympic post.  The post was supposed to be about the mischief Delilah’s been doing, but I just couldn’t get it to sound right.

Many times I write the post the night before and tweak it come morning. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist with my writing.

That post ended up being totally rewritten when I looked at it. Hey sometimes things just work out.

Tasty Tuesday – Author’s Note

My dogs DIG those banana chips, let’s face it Delilah digs anything that is considered food to her.  Sampson however is a bit funny as he won’t eat bananas but he loves those chips.

On our nightly walks we usually have the dogs sit when a car comes.  Even when Hubby gives the command as soon as Sampson is released he runs up to me to get a chip.

Maybe she won’t recognize me and I can get an extra banana chip.

It cracks me up.

Whoo Hoo Wednesday – Author’s Note

Thank you for your kindness regarding the changing of the guards.  Whoo Hoo is much easier to write than the WTF posts. 🙂

As I said, there will still be WTF Wednesday posts, they will just be weakly instead of weekly. 😉

Book update: yesterday was a washout for me, but I have today off and hope to make some good progress. As I said I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist with my writing and I find myself insuring the quotes are there, it sounds right etc.

Are any of you participating in the book writing challenge?  How are you managing?  I know I should be checking in on everyone but I’m finding it hard to keep up with everything.

Have a great weekend!
