“This ‘N That Thursday A little of this and a little of that and everything in between…

BlogPaws Disaster Response Network

Many of you may not be aware but BlogPaws along with Pet 360 and World Vets has teamed up to help pets in need when disaster strikes.  It is a response team of bloggers who help spread the word of ways the animal loving community can assist pets when disaster strikes.

Typically the biggest need in such a disaster is cash, so BlogPaws is reaching out to their generous sponsors and asking for donations.

Team Up For Oklahoma

They’ve kindly made a button for bloggers to display on our pages, so readers, if they are so inclined, can donate.  Donations will be accepted through May 28th and the collective donation will be announced once the money is ready for delivery.

If you’re not comfortable helping in this fashion, there are a number of other ways you can help, Flea being from Oklahoma has a number of links on her blog.

Bark For Your Park

While I was at BlogPaws I stopped by the PetSafe booth and they were incredibly awesome (more on that in a later post.)  Tuesday I got an e-mail from Robin reminding me that their Bark for Your Park contest was still open until May 31st.

Have you ever dreamed of having a fabulous dog park in your town?  Well PetSafe is giving you the chance.  One lucky city will win a $100,000 dog park and four runners-up will receive $25,000.

Of course if you already have a fabulous dog park, you can always vote for mine. 😀

What’s my passion?

The whole weekend I was at BlogPaws I kept sitting in sessions and thinking, how do I define my blog in order to move it forward? Do I want to focus on dogs, healthy products, lessons I’ve learned?  What? What do I want to do?

How can I possibly move this blog forward if I have no idea what I want to write about?

I turned to my mentor and dear friend Jodi Chick, who has coached and encouraged me through so much of my wishy-washy whining.

Her words of wisdom?  “Follow your bliss. The niche is in there somewhere.”

(Note to self: do not engage in though provoking dialogue with Jodi, just before bed time.)

I did say they were words of wisdom didn’t I? I told her I was going to bed and hoped to dream my ‘bliss.’  Well I didn’t do a lot of dreaming, but I did do a lot of thinking. And then it came to me.

As a little girl I always wanted to be an entertainer.  If I can entertain you with stories and antidotes and that brings a smile to your face, or a laugh to your lips, that makes me happy!

If I can give encouragement to someone who is struggling with a difficult dog, that’s amazing.

If I can share my love of dogs and maybe educate someone in the process, well winner, winner, chicken dinner!!

A little tweaking on the blog design, a change in the header and redefinition of the tag line and I’m off to the races!

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Last week I introduced a new tradition on this blog and that is announcing my co-hostess for tomorrow’s blog hop.  So without further ado, my co-hostess for tomorrow is Pup Fan from I Still Want More Puppies!

Oh and just because, here is Sampson when he was a little punkin.

BlogPaws Part 1

May 22, 2013 By Jodi

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, my mind is twirling with all kinds of things I want to share with you about this past weekend.

I’ll start with bloggers I met.

It started at Washington National airport when the shuttle driver called my name.  I looked up to find a woman smiling at me.  When I approached she asked if I was going to BlogPaws and I said, yes how did you know?  She had noticed Sampson’s face on my shirt.

Well I had met my very first cat blogger, Bernadette Kazmarski from The Creative Cat. We climbed into the backseat of the shuttle and chatted our way to the hotel.  What a super nice lady!

After I checked in and dropped my stuff in my room I headed down to the lobby, and found the Jones Natural Chews booth.  I said, “Hi” to Flea.

Before I knew it, a woman standing next to me said, “Jodi!” and pulled me into a bear hug.  It was Sugar’s mom. Seriously love this lady and I enjoyed spending time with her and getting to know her on a personal level and to learn more about her and Sugar and yes, I referred to her as Sugar’s mom on more than one occasion.  I was lucky enough to have breakfast with her and Kim from Golden Pines on Sunday morning before we began the trip home. (Since neither of these ladies put their photos on their blogs, our photo will remain private and just between the three of us.  Hang tight ladies, I hope to get around to it this weekend.)

I was hanging out in the lobby with Jodi Chick from Kol’s Notes, and Mrs. Taleteller from Tales and Tails when I started getting text bombed by Kari from Hound Girl and Jen from My Brown Newfies. “I see you” their texts said, but I couldn’t see them, finally Jen came up and introduced herself and pointed out their hiding place. My time with them was limited, but I did get some time Friday night to hang with them after dinner, had a quick lunch with them on Saturday and hung with Jenny Juggs a little bit Saturday night after the party was over. (Best after party ever! But that’s for another post.)

Checked my phone and I had a missed call from Pup Fan! I called her back immediately and turns out we were probably standing only a few feet from each other when she called.

Things kind of became a blur with all of the wonderful bloggers I met, so in no particular order here goes.

Elyse from Adventures of a Cattle Dog

Jessica from You Did What with Your Wiener

Pascale Lemire from Dog Shaming

Caren Gittleman from Dakota’s Den

Lynda from Two Ears and a Tail

Pamela Douglas Webster (and her husband, Mike) from Something Wagging This Way Comes

Dawn Miklitch from NEPA Pets

Emma’s mom from MY GBGV Life

Kristen from Cokie the Cat

Friday night as we were getting our party together to go out to dinner my phone rang and it was Kirsten from Peaceful Dog.  She was in the parking lot of the hotel!  In the whirlwind of the conference I lost my mind a bit and forgot a couple of things (one being Kirsten meeting up with us and the other being the mandatory speaker meeting.)

It was a pleasure to have her join us for dinner and she is just as warm and down to earth in person as she is on her blog.

Kirsten from Peaceful Dog.
Jen from M Brown Newfies
Jodi Chick from Kol’s Notes

Kristen and Cokie
Mrs. Taleteller
Pamela Douglas Webster

Pup Fan

Most of these photos were taken Saturday night at the Awards Party, I thought I’d had a few too many Margaritas (because everyone was so blurry) but it turns out my glasses were just really dirty.  Please forgive the glare. 😀

Oh and I met Vinny the Pug’s dad Sunday morning at breakfast!

If I met you and forgot to include you in this post, please don’t be offended.  My head was literally spinning.

Drifting on Petfinder

May 21, 2013 By Jodi

Dogs N Pawz

Today we join our friends Teddy, Scout and Ash from Dogs N Pawz for the Tuesday’s Tails Blog hop.

As Lisa says, “This is the Blog Hop that features shelter animals. Find a cat, dog, rabbit, etc. at your local animal shelter or rescue and feature them on this Blog Hop! Come join the fun and help a furry friend find a forever home! And while you’re at it, don’t forget to visit the other blogs and share their doggies, cats, rabbits, and all the other animals that need forever homes on your social media sites. Please spread the word!”

Once again I chose a senior black lab.  Many dogs suffer from black dog syndrome, I’m not sure if anyone has ever figured out why so many black dogs are not adopted.  Having a chocolate dog myself (and having seen her picture on Petfinder) my guess would be, it’s hard to get a great picture of them.

I’ve also heard people may feel a tiny bit scared of them, because of the whole black cat thing.  Whatever!

I know some beautiful dogs that are black and had fate not intervened I’d have one right now myself.  When Hubby said, the only color we’re missing is black, let’s get a Black Lab I said NO.

What can I say?  I have my hands full with the two I have.

Anyway, back to the blog hop.  The picture of this guy, named Drifter caught my eye on Petfinder.

CT178.24256999-1-x

You can find more photos of Drifter on Petfinder.

Here’s what they have to say about him.

Drifter is a mellow guy who showed up to someone’s front yard with no collar and no plans of leaving. No owners could be found after searching the area. Drifter is around 7-8 years old and weighs 65 lbs.  He is house / crate trained and very sweet with children and other dogs he meets. He walks great on a leash and is pretty much the perfect pet for anyone looking for a loyal, mild mannered fellow.

If you or anyone you know is interested in Drifter, Labs 4 Rescue has an application on their website. If you require additional information, reference Drifter #3 and email Marla Cox at mclabs4rescue@gmail.com.

Drifter #3 is being fostered in Connecticut.

This is the Tuesday’s Tails Blog Hop hosted by Dogs N Pawz.
