Many thanks to our friends at the 2 Brown Dawgs Blog.

Super Sweet Blogging Award

Last week our friends at All Things Collie presented us with the Super Sweet Blogging award.  Sampson and Delilah did a post about this very award last December, so I thought I’d say thank you very much to All Things Collie and let you read their answers here.

Weather

With the warmer weather comes the added chance of thunderstorms.  We’ve had our fair share of them of late and they always seem to be right around the time we’re taking our walk.

The flash always makes it seem darker.

The flash always makes it seem darker.

I love walking and truth be told I actually enjoy walking in a light to moderate rain. While it can be slightly uncomfortable walking in wet clothes, rain does help keep the bugs away.  But when the thunder rolls in like waves upon the shore, I draw the line.

And the thunder rolls.

And the thunder rolls.

I usually let the dogs choose our path and simply follow them wherever they go.  I have been encouraging them to use one particular path on our way out of the park.  When we hit this path I say, “Let’s go home.”

When we reach the intersection we can turn right and head back towards the field or turn left and head towards our car.  I usually try and plan our walks so we hit this path right around the 25 minute mark and it takes us about five minutes to walk it, so in my mind it’s a win-win.

Last night Delilah wanted to hit our ‘home’ path early so I thought, no biggie, we’ll turn right into the field instead of left.  Silly me.  I’m not sure it was the heat, or the fact that we’ve cut our walks short a couple of times but we hit the end of that trail and the dogs turned towards the car.

Rut row.

Don’t think I slacked off because we just finished K-9 Kamp, we didn’t get the “Walking Warriors” award because we’re wimps.  No siree Bob.  I urged them the other way and we finished our half hour walk.

Thank you to Kol's Notes and Peggy's Pet Place for hosting K-9 Kamp.

Bones

My dogs love their bones.  I currently have the Jones Natural Chews center bones and I fill them every day and freeze them, they are the nightly treat in our house.

These bones are well loved.  Don’t believe me?  Have a look.

Broken Bone Care to hazard a guess as to who loved this bone to pieces?

If you guessed Delilah, you’d be wrong.  Oh Delilah loves these bones, there’s no doubt about it, but she is not the extreme chewer with them like Sampson is.

2 Bones The bone on the left is Delilah’s.

For whatever reason, Sampson chews these bones a lot harder than Delilah.  Of course, I threw this one out which means I need to replace it. 🙂

Follow-Up Friday

Join us tomorrow for Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.  My co-hostess for this week is JoAnn Stancer from Sand Spring Chesapeakes.

Delilah Likes to Roll in Smelly Things

June 26, 2013 By Jodi

Well it’s true.  Delilah loves to roll in smelly things.  Her favorites being dryer sheets.  She gets a far away dreamy look in her eyes, takes the sheet in her mouth, tears it to shreds and then rolls in it.

She also likes dirty towels, Hubby’s garage rags and Grandma’s underwear.  Why she wants to smell like Grandma’s cooter is beyond me, we just need to keep in mind not to pet her after she’s been visiting Grandma.

Typically she leaves my clothes alone, I take that as a good sign that my deodorant is working.  Every once in a while though, she’ll take one of my shirts.

Yesterday was one of those days. I was changing my clothes so I could take them for their walk.  I had taken off my shirt and thrown it on the floor.

I heard a noise and looked up to see Delilah rolling around on my shirt.

How cute I thought, she wants to smell like me.  I whipped out my cell phone and started the video.

Yes that was me gasping as I realized she was trying to SHRED my shirt.  It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye, or in this case their shirt.

When I showed the video to Hubby he said, “Why is she tearing your shirt?”

Eye roll.  Well she wasn’t when the video started!!  Holy smack, how did that happen?  Have you ever had your pet turn the tables on you?

Penny For Your Thoughts

June 25, 2013 By Jodi

Yesterday two of my friends helped their beloved pets cross over the bridge.

Mrs. Taleteller had her beloved Blueberry for 11 years, she has a beautiful tribute to Blue on her page today.

My facebook friend Tamara, helped her Hannah cross the bridge last evening.

Both of these dogs were well-loved, well-taken care of family pets.  Sadly their quality of life had changed and their owners with hearts full of love, helped ease their pain.  It is a wonderful, unselfish gift to be able to ease the pain of those we love, despite the fact our hearts will ache in the process.

My heart goes out to both of my friends who are missing their pets today.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope that you will find peace and comfort knowing your pets are pain-free.

Run fast, Run free Blueberry.

Run fast, Run free Hannah Marie.

Sadly there are so many animals in shelters whose lives will end, at the hands of a stranger because there is no room at the shelter and no-one wants an older pet.

Dogs like Penelope.

Looking at her sweet face just about breaks my heart.

Looking at her sweet face just about breaks my heart.

Penelope’s story is a sad one.  At 10-years-old she and her litter of puppies were dropped off at a high-kill shelter in the south.  Her owner’s signed the papers that should have ended her life.  “We don’t want her or her puppies, we’re tired of having dogs and anyway she’s old.”  And they left her.

Poor Penelope cuddled her puppies close, trying to protect them.  She was scared and confused and had no idea of where she was or what was happening.

But there is good news.  All of Penelope’s puppies were adopted and one of the shelter workers contacted a Lab Rescue and convinced them to pull Penelope.  As the rescue worker slipped a leash on her, Penelope licked their hand in gratitude.  You can find more about Penelope on her Petfinder page.

Penelope is currently in Lebanon, CT, if you are interested in helping Penelope spend her remaining years loved and cherished, you can contact lottoson@yahoo.com (Laurie.)

Please share Penelope on your social media networks and help her find the home she deserves.

Thank you to Lisa at Dogs N Pawz for Tuesday’s Tails, blog hop.
