This ‘N That Thursday and Advent Calendar for Dogs Day 5

December 5, 2013 By Jodi

First off, many thanks to 2 Brown Dawgs and Ruckus the Eskie for This ‘N That Thursday.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Originally we intended to go to New Hampshire to visit my sister and her husband over the long Thanksgiving weekend.  But when Mom got sick, my sister decided she needed to come to CT instead.  Me being the oh so generous wife that I am, suggested Hubby head to NH for a ‘boy’s weekend’ while my sister and I enjoyed a ‘girl’s weekend. Well you know what they say, the best laid plans and all.  Turns out we were super busy.

So when Sunday morning rolled around, I decided to park myself on the couch for a few minutes to shop for purses. My sister meanwhile was elsewhere in the house.

Okay, she was using the toilet if you have to know, when all of a sudden the dogs started barking like demons were circling the house.

My sister cut her business short thinking she might have to save me from something and the three of them dashed to the window, faster than the main character in “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clarke Moore. (Ok, technically Santa Claus MIGHT be the main character, but let’s roll with this okay?)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Yeah, the picture is dark.  It was an overcast day and I don’t turn on lights.  Sampson is there in front of my sister, while Delilah is clearly silhouetted.

I mentioned I was shopping for purses right?  So you can see why I didn’t jump right up.  Well the three of them looked out the window and then the dogs ran to the front deck and then back to the window and I just couldn’t concentrate with all that racket, so I got up to see what had everyone’s attention.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA There were some turkeys across the street.

And then the turkeys crossed the street to my neighbor’s yard, so the dogs had to go outside, where they could stand at the fence barking at them.

Can you handle a little joke?  I hope so, because I’m doing it anyway.

Q: Why did the turkeys cross the road?

A: To see what the dogs were barking at of course!

The barking dogs didn’t frighten the turkeys at all, in fact a few of them stopped to look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Whatchoo lookin’ at fools?

It was a stare down in my yard.  My two barking dogs and these five bold as brass turkeys. (Who didn’t realize their cousin was already cooked and sitting in my refrigerator.)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA These other four could have cared less, they were pecking the grass for something.

And there I was in the front window snapping away like I’d never seen a turkey in my life.  Honestly I took like 17 pictures.  Of turkeys!!

A short time later my sister and I saw a herd/group/flock of 15 about 4 miles from my house.  Someone must have been spreading the word that Thanksgiving was over and it was safe to come out. 🙂

Thanks again to our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs and Ruckus the Eskie for This ‘N That Thursday blog hop.

I Dropped the Blogging Ball and Advent Calendar for Dog Lovers Day 4

December 4, 2013 By Jodi

December 4th already!  Where does the time go?

Are you finished with your Christmas shopping yet?  Here’s a surprise, I’ve barely started mine and I currently have no time to get it done!   Before I give you the skinny on today’s Advent Calender promotion, I’m going to fill you in a bit on what’s been going on behind the scenes here at Heart Like a Dog.

My mom (who lives in an in-law unit in our basement) has been ill.  She has been in congestive heart failure and was hospitalized on the 21st of November.  On the 22nd of November she developed pneumonia and was moved to Intensive Care.

Life got super hectic for me.

Walking the dogs on my lunch and then heading to the hospital after work left me feeling very rushed and frazzled.  To top it off there was a holiday added in there.  Thankfully mom is a tough old bird and has turned the corner.  We moved her on Saturday to a rehabilitation center where she will heal more and get stronger.  I have high hopes she need only be in there two weeks or so.

I tell you this so you will understand why today’s post is so late.  No, no, I know it’s not late, I mean since I’ve been working on this Advent Calendar my posts have been scheduled earlier than they have ever been and if I’m being honest (which I always try to, siriously, who can remember the lies?) I like it.

But that’s not what this is about.  This is about a calendar give-away I promised you two weeks ago.

Do you remember the post, “Which Way Do We Go?” And this picture?

What? You've never heard the tale of the two stubborn labs?

What? You’ve never heard the tale of the two stubborn labs?

I asked you to tell me which dog turned back to me first and which path we ended up taking.  In exchange for your thoughts I offered to give away a Dogs of Blogville Calendar in a random drawing and I promised I would share the winner and the the answer in the special Thanksgiving This ‘N That Thursday blog hop.

December - Benny and Lily - Two French Bulldogs

You remember these guys right?  They grace our calendar for December of 2014.

Except life got in the way and I totally forgot.

Well the answer to the question is this.

The dogs turned almost simultaneously, BUT if I had to say which dog turned first, it would have been Sampson and because Sampson turned first, we took the path to the left.

Well that’s the first part done!  Check that off.

Now for the giveaway, I had 27 comments on that post and I plugged it into Random.org and came up with the number 10.  As I was counting down the comments, a big smile came across my face because I was pretty sure I knew who the number ten commenter was.

Here’s her comment, “Ooooh, I hope I win. I’d love to get a calendar. Last year, I gave each of the ones I ordered away and didn’t keep one for myself. This year, my timing was off.  Anyway, because she’s full of surprises, I’d guess Delilah came back to you before you got bifurcated by the sapling.”

Congratulations Pamela, your calendar is on it’s way. 😀

Have you been enjoying the Advent Calendar giveaways?  I cannot enter any of the drawings but I can tell you I’m finding lots of cool ideas and new products and companies that I’m loving.

I’m super excited for today’s giveaway, are you ready?

Advent Calendar for Dog Lovers Day 3: Yappy Hour Vineyards

December 3, 2013 By Jodi

Kol's Notes Advent Calendar for Dog Lovers

Welcome to the Advent Calendar for Dog Lovers hosted by Kol’s Notes, Heart Like a Dog, My GBGV Life, My Brown Newfies & Terrier Torrent.

Every day between now and December 24th, we’ll be giving away great prizes – plus every time you enter to win a daily prize, you’ll be entered to win our fabulous Grand Prize Package worth more than $800 featuring gifts from each of our 24 fantastic sponsors!

Today’s sponsor is Yappy Hour Vineyards

Yappy Hour Vineyards

Yappy Hour Vineyards

Yappy Hour Vineyards is a female owned, small business based out of California that uses human grade ingredients to make Doggie wine!

Actually it’s not really wine, cause’ you all know that grapes are a big NO-NO for Fi-do right?  Doggie wine is actually a kibble enhancer, a doggie gravy for those of us who like to indulge our pups a little, or for the discriminating or picky pup who needs a little encouragement to eat those Kibbles.

While we don’t use Yappy Hour wine in our house (we are raw feeders and Sampson and Delilah need no encouragement to eat their meals) I think these make great gifts for friends and family with dogs in their lives. But this site is not just about wine for your puppies my friends.

Oh no.

There are goodies galore  on the the website for the humans in your life too!  Imagine gifting a friend with a bottle of Yappy Hour wine sporting their new dog’s face on the bottle to help welcome their newest family member!  Yes!  You can create your own custom wine label on the Yappy Hour website.  Now that’s a great gift if you ask me.

Yappy Hour also has wine accessories for the wine lover in your house.  Gifts like hand painted glasses, wine stoppers, cocktail napkins and my all-time favorite wine accessory, glass charms.  If you’re like me, you get a few friends together, the wine is flowing and before you know it, glasses are mixed up.  A sweet little charm on the stem of my glass and the germaphobe in me is placated.

Since we don’t have any stores in CT that carry Yappy Hour wines, I was super excited to discover I can order directly from their website!

Have you heard enough?  Are you ready to discover what the Yappy Hour advent prize for today is.  Let me tell you folks, this prize has a retail value of $100!

This gift will come wrapped in holiday cello and topped with Bows and Ribbons

For the Doggie
1-small bottle (375 ml) of Yappy Hour Vineyards Doggie Wine
2-Wine & Grapes Gourmet Hand Decorated Doggie Cookies
1-Wine Colored Plush Toy

For the Human
1 – Doggies Charm my Glass – Wine Charms
1 – Sit Stay Drink Cocktail Napkins
1 – Sit Stay Drink Cheese Server
Yappy Hour Vineyards

Check out these cool names!
