Balancing Act

September 16, 2018 By Jodi

This past week I shared how I’m working on being a seeing-eye person for Delilah.

I’m always amazed at Delilah. There are things she just can’t see. Like branches, animals on the side of the road, a treat in the driveway.

There are have been times when she’s tripped going up or down the stairs.

Then there are times when I smile at this.

Watching and wondering how she manages to balance on her back feet, while not even looking.

You make me laugh or smile, the sweet, funny, loving things dogs do, that brings a smile to the face, or a laugh to the lips.

What did your pet(s) do this week that made you laugh or smile?

Heck, I trip when there’s nothing there to trip over! I’d say Miss D is doing great! And so is her mama, at being her seeing-eye person!

Dogs learn to compensate for lost abilities just like humans. Go Delilah!

Sounds like Delilah is doing quite well, and is lucky to have a seeing eye person. When my husband and I were first married, we had two dogs, one was bigger than a Lab, and the other was a little smaller. The senior Yorkie who was my childhood companion came to live with us. She was 16 or so, hard of hearing and visually impaired. But she ruled the pack. It amazed me how they never tried to eat her food or take her sunspot. It was also pretty incredible how quickly she adjusted to a new house. The thought of her always makes me smile.

There may be an open spot on the Flying Walenda’s that she might just be pawfect’ for.

Aging pets always squeeze our hearts, but everything they do is just so dear. I get a little panicky feeling when I see how rapidly my Abby seems to be aging lately. So I try to do what you do, and appreciate every moment.

Dogs and cats are so resilient, and they really know how to figure things out. Our cat Sam gets around great with very limited eyesight. They might stumble, but when they do, they just move on, and never give up!
