Chief Inspector Stone, At Your Service

April 15, 2018 By Jodi

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from having a pure bred Labrador, it’s this.

They are ALWAYS on the hunt for food.

If Labrador Retrievers had a club, Delilah would be one of the top candidates to be their spokesdog.

Paws down.

She knows every spot in the house, where food might reside. Anytime someone eats something, she’s right there to make sure not a crumb gets left.

Nothing goes on in the kitchen, without her supervision, AND when you’ve finished what you’re doing, she will inspect the kitchen and clean up any mess you might have made.

She’s so thorough, she licks the floor and the cabinets. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said, “Stop licking the floor!”

There are times when it can be terribly frustrating, and then there are times when you walk in and see this….

And you can’t help but laugh. It also makes me think, if I wanted to keep her busy…all I’d have to do is smear something on the door of the cabinets.

You make me smile (or laugh,) the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do that bring a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.

What did your pet do that made you smile or laugh this week?

Ducky always makes me laugh the way she sits under hubby’s snack tray, with her chin resting on the seat of his recliner, looking up at him while he eats. It’s just priceless the way she watches and waits for him to accidentally on purpose drop a bite on his lap. 😁

That’s one reason Labs are so easy to train is they do anything for food.

Merlin like a true lab will do anything for food. He is stubborn too, just before i told him to go lie on his bed, he went over to it, whined, then got on the couch next to me and put his chin on my foot. He knows I’m a push-over.

But, you never have to mop. I don’t even worry about food on the floor anymore, it gets found and eaten sooooo fast. Unless it’s bad doggie food, then I have to be quick.

That’s funny. Blueberry is also a cabinet licker. She also cracks me up because if I am cooking something or open the fridge, she doesn’t look up at me. She fixes her gaze on the floor beneath where I am standing. She’s like, “It’s not a matter of WILL you drop something, it’s a matter of WHEN. And by George, I am ready.”
She has clearly caught on to how clumsy I am.

You couldn’t ask for a better clean up crew than Delilah! My hubby got out a bowl of fruit salad and set it on the dining room table and then walked away. Luke had been bugging me for attention but then he disappeared. He had parked his butt in the bed near the dining room table, to wait for Dad to come back and share some fruit with him!

I’m starting to think Stoplickingthefloor is my name! I never thought to lick the cabinets, though. Thanks for the tip! #hopeful

    Love and licks,

Lila is constantly cleaning up crumbs at our house, and boy do I miss her when she’s not around! That’s her contribution to society, I guess…
