The Cone of Shame

February 25, 2018 By Jodi

What is it about the cone of shame that affects a dog’s demeanor?

Poor Delilah is recovering from a debridement of an ulcer in her left eye, and the Ophthalmologist has recommended the cone for those times when we can’t watch her.

Naturally, she hates the cone, and while it breaks my heart to put her in it, I know it’s what I need to do for her own well-being.

But I can’t help but smile when I see this.

You make me laugh or smile, the sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that make us laugh or smile.

What did your pet do that made you smile this week?

I don’t like the cones. When Mo got neutered, I refused to use it on him. Instead I used a blow up donut, which worked just as well, but doesn’t obstruct their view. He was fine with it. He really hated the cone.

Mom also smiles whenever I have to wear the cone. When she takes it out of the closet, I run over and stick my head up – ready to slip it on and get my treat. Yes. I love the cone. I think it’s an outfit. Scarf. Dress. Coat. Tutu. Cone. Whatever. I’m on board.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

Mom is not good at having us wear that dreaded cone. Luckily, we are pretty good at leaving things alone and not having to wear one. Hope her eye heals fast and she can lose the cone.

Aw, poor Delilah! I hope eye heals soon so she can shed the cone. My girls hate the thing, too, so they feel for D-Dog. But, oh, the expression on her face! ❤️

We call it an Elizabethan collar and tell the dogs how distinguished they look. They believe it, they’re dogs.

Delilah sure doesn’t look very amused! 🙂 I got a soft cone for Luke and he was not even impressed with that. Funny thing was, I put it away in the laundry room and every time I went in there he’d have to go check it out. One time he grabbed it and ran, so I think he just wanted to play with it! LOL
    Hope Delilah heals up quickly!
