HamBone

January 28, 2018 By Jodi

When crazy, out-of-control Delilah first came to us, we had hopes that some of Sampson’s manners and habits would wear off on her.

Years went by, and Delilah learned to trust us more, and gained a bit more self-control, and slowly, we began to see some of Sampson’s traits.

The one that stands out the most to me, is something I call HamBone.

Without a doubt, Sampson is a HamBone. The times when it’s most apparent is when we come home from work. That’s the time when he’s SO happy to see us, and when his smile really comes out.

Give me some attention, now!

Both Hubby and I make it a point to acknowledge Sampson first, and then he usually gets some loving. If for some reason that doesn’t happen, that’s when the feet go up in the air and the smile comes out.

Delilah’s taken to lying on her back and wiggling her body about, waiting for us to love on her. Friday night when Hubby got home, Delilah pulled out all the stops.

First she grabbed a toy and carried it in her mouth to her Daddy. Of course, he gave her a little bit of attention, then he went and laid on the floor with Sampson.

Delilah wiggled around on the floor on her back. Then she came over and nudged the back of Hubby’s neck with her nose. She got a toy and pranced about trying to get Daddy’s attention.

Finally the Daddy sat down and little Delilah was happy at last. She climbed up on his lap, and stretched right out, HamBoning like there was no tomorrow.

She had her head hanging off the arm of the couch at one point.

I said, “What a HamBone!”

Hubby and I just laughed, what else can you do?

What did your pet do that made you laugh this week?

You make me laugh, or smile. The sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that make us laugh or smile.

Merlin likes to bring things to us when we get home. When he was younger he left a snail and a lemon at the back door. Do you think we knew where that lemon came from? Lol.

We furry ones make a human’s homecoming so special, even if you were only gone 5 minutes. You two certainly look happy!

Sometimes you need all the love!

They’re both so silly, I love that (and what you call it)! Luke always wants all the attention when we get home. When Cricket is getting her turn, he’ll just go and sit on the couch and wait for us to come give him a hug! He does that especially with Dad, because I’m usually home when he gets home.
With me when I get home, both dogs romp around joyfully, and then go into the kitchen and dance around the pantry waiting for their treat! That greeting is the only thing that makes having to leave them worth it!

Dog minutes are so long when humans are gone, even trips to the grocery call for special greetings
on the return of the mighty hunters who bring food.

I love when one dog notices what works for another and then imitates it. Wilson has a move we call his “happy roll”. Jimmy now has his own version.

They are both so cute! Since both dogs are in crates when I get home, our greetings are more subdued, but Barley always grabs a toy (and if I forgot to put one in with her before I left, she’ll run around and find something to pick up–usually a dirty sock!) and carries it around for a good 10 minutes before she’s decided she’s been cute enough πŸ™‚ I’m glad Delilah got the attention she needed!
