The Long Goodbye

July 23, 2017 By Jodi

I mentioned in a previous post, how nice it is to come home to find one (or both) of the dogs waiting for me on the balcony, or by the window.

Don’t leave us!

The flip side to that, is the heartbreak of looking up as you’re preparing to leave you house, and seeing a pair of sad little eyes watching you leave.

Breaks my heart every time.

Yesterday I had to run out for dog food, and I looked up and Sampson was staring at me from the window.

It makes it awful hard to leave.

I have that same guilt every time I leave, with the exception that I have to hear Mo cry and howl as I leave. It kills me!!! 💔

It is hard to leave when our little furry faces are watching. These days, we are usually busy doing something when Mom leaves so we are not in the window watching. It makes it easier for her.

Ohmigosh, I HATE having to leave my girls behind for any reason, especially when the dog-daddy and I are leaving together! If I could clone myself and send the clone out to do everything, I would. Then I could spend all my time with my sweeties. ❤️

Shadow gives me a look much like Sampson gave you in the photo. Maybe she’s afraid one day I won’t come home, either – like that awful day when we said goodbye to Callie. Ducky’s happy as long as she’s in her crate with a treat and a toy.

They do make it hard, don’t they? Yesterday I had to go run some errands and as I was driving out of the driveway, I could hear Luke howling!! I almost turned around and went back, I felt so bad. He normally only does that when I go for my runs, but I also don’t usually leave on Saturday mornings (and Dad was gone to work too).

What a sweet (and heartbreaking!) picture. Thankfully, both girls go in their crates when I leave and they get their snacks for going in and are too busy to pay attention to me leaving. By the time I get to the front door, I can’t see their little faces to make me feel bad about leaving 🙂

I think they have a doggie manual with a chapter on instilling guilt.

True enough. Dogs have that “whole travel agent sending you on a guilt trip with their sad eyes” things down to a bloody science.

Us kitties work really hard to purrfect that look!

I can’t see mine when I leave, but sometimes they start barking and my heart breaks a little.

When I leave for work, I always tell my dogs “Momma loves you, I’ll see you later” in a sing song voice. It seems to perk them up, and definitely makes me feel better.
