The Mate Was A Mighty Sailing Man – TBT

June 16, 2016 By Jodi

I’m really digging on Throw Back Thursday lately.

This post originally appeared June 7, 2011.

It was a memory from two weeks we spent in Florida for our daughter’s wedding.

Florida, October 2005.

It had been a wonderful yet busy nine days, but the wedding was now over, everyone had left leaving just Hubby, Sampson and I.  It was time for mama to relax.

Hubby and I got this idea to rent a boat and take a nice relaxing ride in Tampa Bay.  We went to a local marina and inquired about a boat we could rent that we could bring Sampson on.  We were told dogs weren’t allowed because they could damage the boat.

“Okay, thanks anyway” we said. (Like we weren’t responsible dog owners!)

“Wait a minute” the clerk said.  “I have a pontoon boat that I am going to be renovating, would that interest you?”

Does a bear crap in the woods?

So we loaded up the boat and headed out in the bay.

It was a very relaxing ride that was enjoyed by all three of us.

I think you can tell by the pictures.

Mama and Sampson

This was a nice, quiet cove on an island in Tampa Bay. He really enjoys the ocean.

It was such an amazing time at that wedding. Our family had rented two houses that were next door to each other, and it was so fun and amazing. Sampson loved having everyone around him and we really just all enjoyed each other.

Have you ever rented a boat or taken your dog out on one? I was a little anxious, but Sampson did amazing!

Katie and I have been out on boats, no problems with them. That water looks perfect! I want to take a dip in that! What a fun trip!

What great memories and love the photos. No boat dogs here because the dog mama is not much of a boat girl.

Misty the alpha Poodle is a water dog. If she sees water she is in water like her hunting ancestors, so we keep her away from water. The other dogs hate the whole idea of wetness. No boats for us.

Oh man that would be so awesome, that’s my perfect idea of relaxation. I’d love to be able to take Laika out on a boat one day. She loves swimming, not sure how she’d do with a magical motorized car that rides on water though.

You all look like you had such a wonderful time!
This brings back great memories for me. Back when we had Kobi and our Lab mix Maggie my hubby had a fishing boat. The dogs absolutely loved going out in it. Kobi didn’t like the water, but he loved sitting in the front of the boat with his ears flapping in the wind! Maggie would wait patiently for us to find a place to stop and let her go off for a swim.
There was a lot of excitement if my hubby actually caught a fish, but even though he didn’t often, we still had so much fun out there!

Love TBT’s!! It’s a great way to re-live some terrific memories. As for renting a boat with Sam on board, don’t make me go all ‘Jersey’ on you. This is the dog that freaks out in the bathtub and waves his paws from the beach at a 3″ deep creek. 😉
