You Make Me Smile – January 24, 2016

January 24, 2016 By Jodi

You make me smile (or laugh), the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis, that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.

Delilah, the day you climbed on the couch and laid down next to me…..

Chocolate Labrador

Not only did you make me smile, you filled by heart with joy.

Delilah has a habit of climbing up onto our laps at various times when we are sitting on the couch. Typically she just sits on top of us, and is constantly moving and shifting. But this particular morning, which was a couple of weeks ago, she actually settled down and went to sleep.

It made me so happy, because I know how long it’s taken to get her to this point.

So, what about your pets? Do they settle down on your lap or do they wiggle and shift like Delilah usually does?

Depends on the collie, they are all a bit different. It also depends on their mood, which keeps us guessing who will be looking for a cuddle next.

Awe! That is so sweet! She is too cute! My dogs will cuddle up next to me but they don’t ever lay on me!

Callie and Shadow used to climb up on the bed during the cooler nights; but less so on hot summer nights. Now that Callie’s in Heaven, Shadow stays on the dog beds next to the beds. Maybe Callie still snuggles with her on the dog beds? Ducky will usually settle down between our legs after giving us a faceful of kisses.

None of us are on the furniture, so no laps, but on the floor, we like to lie with Mom and we are pretty still.

I love when mine cuddle like that.

In 2009 I had a 55 lb. foster dog that used to curl up on my lap. She barely fit but she did it.

Somehow all four dogs and the cat and I manage to get in the same chair. Moving is forbidden.

The girls will lie next to us, but not on top. Luke likes to lie half on us at times…he tends to settle in pretty well and just stays snuggled wherever he is. Unless he’s snuggling with Dad, and I go in the kitchen…then he has to see what I’m up to!

I settle in the best when I am leaning against Mom with all my might. She sometimes tries to move an inch away from me for some “breathing room,” but I just move an inch closer to her every time. I think breathing is overrated.

My best snugglers are Riva and Maia, they like to be pinned right next to me or in my lap. Cheyenne and Titan like to be cuddled but on their terms, they rarely get in my lap. All of them usually settle down without to much fuss but on occasion Riva or Maia sit or lay next to me and pester me by pawing at me (or staring at me) to get off the computer or quite watching tv and pay attention to them.

Cocoa is quiet if she is super tired but usually she comes up for a little while and then is ready to roll again. Or she sees the kitties next door. I love puppy snuggles.

Blueberry does the lean and slump. She’ll usually come up when I am in bed watching TV and turn her back to me, then sit right next to my upper legs and lean. If I start petting her, she’ll slowly start tilting her head back til her nose is in the air and then slump backwards across my lap. Once she’s in that position, there’s very little movement other than her allowing me to cradle her head in my arms. Sweetest. Thing. Ever.

She was probably cold. You make a good hot water bottle…lol.

Good girl! Mine will lay next to me and on top of me and not wiggle to much.
