You Make Me Smile – January 17, 2016

January 17, 2016 By Jodi

You make me smile (or laugh), the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis, that brings a smile to my face or a laugh to my lips.

Sampson, the way you tap me with your paw and look up at me after I’ve stopped petting you…..

Golden Labrador

You make me smile.

I took this photo yesterday morning. Sampson was downstairs at my mom’s and I was rubbing his tummy. As soon as I stopped, he tapped my leg with his paw and looked up at me as if to you, “What’d you stop for?”

Do your dogs let you know when they want more loving?  Are they like Sampson, pawing at you for pets?

Sampson is so cute! Both of my dogs solicit attention. Zoe really likes to have her back scratched and she will wrap herself around our recliner so my husband can get to the right spot. 😀

Tapping is good manners, S. If Mom dares to stop touching me, I press myself even harder against her. If I could climb inside of her, I would.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

The last dog i had she lived to be 18 and was a lab x blue heeler called Smokey. She would also paw at you for more pats and she would never let up.
Merlin on the other hand he likes to manipulate hands where he wants them, so you would put your hand on him and he would move so your hand would be above his tail for a butt scratch or his ears.

Mo gets on my lap and puts his two front paws on my chest then sticks his head under my chin for kisses. If he wants scratching he puts his face, to my face, then I know it’s scratching time!

Oh yes, we paw at the person when they stop to soon, and when it comes to huggles, Bailie huggles tighter if Mom wants to stop. There are some good reasons why Mom is often running late in the morning. She can’t turn our requests for more down!

Ethel is one powerful dog when it comes to demanding tummy tickles. She’ll roll on her back and smile at you whenever you come into view. So, it goes like this: You walk into the room, see Ethel out of the corner of your eye, and yes, she’s rolling over, staring at you intently with the most superior puppy dog eyes, pawing the air.

Rosie does this. Rudy doesn’t. Jeffie did this all the time and, in fact, not just for more petting. If I was upset about something, he’d come and put a paw on my knee and rest it there until I held it, petted him and felt better.

Jimmy pokes me with his nose. Or, depending where I am, he will try to slide his head under my hand. He then gives the most imploring eyes. Wilson is much more of a hands off dog, but he has some wiggles and grunts that mean he wants attention.

So funny – the Man just came upstairs to share a story about how Phod was doing this to him (which both do) as I was loading this blog page. Hailey can be very rough with it!

It’s so cute! Sheba does that too, but she’s not so subtle… hers is more of a swat than a tap! LOL

There is no shortage of the physical ‘communication’ around our house. It starts first thing in the morning and goes on all day. Taps, nose flicks under the arm, heavy leans wild thumping of the tail against the floor or bed…it all speaks volumes from my fur-kid to this upright with little need for translation. ღ

Shadow does the same thing! Callie used to use her front paws to move our hands from her neck to her chest. And would keep moving our hands to be sure we rubbed her WHOLE chest. ❤️

Oh come on, admit it. You’re just looking for an excuse to pet Sampson some more. 🙂

That look on his face is perfect!! Cocoa lets us know EVERYTHING!! Is she hungry/thirsty/bored/needs love or playing or treats. Exhausting but wonderful!!

That is so cute! The paw tapping is so funny.

LOL brown dawgs do not like a whole lot of petting. They usually get a few and then are off doing their own thing.

    Hello, you stopped petting me!

My dog always lets me know he wants more loving by jumping on my face when I am laying down. He really loves to get up close and personal… One day my training will actually be effective haha!
