Rub a Dub Dub, Two Dogs in a Tub (Sort Of)

September 8, 2015 By Jodi

I can’t remember the last time I gave the dogs a bath. Isn’t that awful? I’m not even going to guess because I don’t want to embarrass myself. Let’s just say, they were well past due.

I had a list of chores I wanted to accomplish on the long Labor Day weekend and giving the dogs a bath was at the top of the list.

My four-year-old granddaughter came and spent the weekend with us. My intention was to get her in her little bathing suit and have her help me with the baths, but that didn’t happen.

Her parents picked her up around noon yesterday and after I grabbed a bite to eat, the dogs and I laid down for a bit. (Okay, I might be smarter than a 5th grader, but I definitely don’t have the energy of a four-year-old!)

After a good rest, I went to the grocery store and then it was time for our afternoon walk. It was too hot for a long walk, or to let the dogs walk on the road, so I loaded them in the car and drove to the park. Usually it’s cooler in the woods, but that wasn’t the case yesterday. The dogs were hot and panting after 20 minutes and I was sweating pretty good myself, so once we got home, I thought I’d bathe them in the wading pool. Typically I would put them in the bath tub and use tepid water, but I figured since it was so hot, they wouldn’t mind the cooler water. Plus I could put my bathing suit on and cool down a bit myself.

Sampson doesn’t mind a bath. He climbed right in the pool and laid down.

Delilah on the other hand hates baths. Once she saw that the pool was doubling as a tub, she tried to go back inside the house.

That's not light shadows on her neck, that's shampoo suds.

Eventually it was her turn. She went willingly into the pool, but keeping her there was challenging.

Finally they both had been bathed, rinsed, dried off and let back inside the house.

If I run fast enough, I can get this water off me.

Delilah likes a little post bath zoomies.

Rub a dub dub, let's wipe off the tub.

Sampson prefers to rub it off on the carpet.

After that, they both settled down for a long nap.

At least I accomplished one thing on my list this weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚ What did you do? Was your weekend as exciting as ours?

LOL! They are so cute! The girls are with Delilah! Baths are torture! It actually got cold here and both my husband and I got colds! So we didn’t do anything. I have plans to take them to the park this week, though!

Adorable photos! You would think Cody would enjoy a nice cool bath during the summer with that thick coat – but nope! Baths are the worst! Similar to Sampson, Cody likes to ‘rub off the tub’ against our screen door! ๐Ÿ™‚

Gah! Running around with soap suds is a no-no. Mom captures me inside the bathroom with the door shut, so I can’t do that. Of course, once the soap (and conditioner) are off, the zoomies begin with a vengeance. No carpet, but not to worry. I get the water off me and onto the couch.

    Love and licks,

I think a 4 year old might just be the end of me and maybe bathing dogs too…lol. Well at least the dogs are clean and shiny. We never bath brown dawgs unless they run into something stinky…say a skunk. ๐Ÿ™‚

For two dogs who love to swim, mine despise baths! And, OY!, the shedding that happens after a corgi gets a bath, let alone TWO corgis!

I had to laugh at Delilah trying to escape back into the house when she realized what was up, lol! Aren’t they funny how they try to avoid things sometimes by slowly walking off like they hope we don’t notice what they’re doing?

We had a busy weekend at home mostly. Bailie actually had a bath last week. Mom dreads giving us baths, so they don’t happen that often here either. Bailie also knows when she is all lathered up, it is the perfect time to escape since she is as slippery as a greased pig. Mom really enjoys trying to hang onto her when she is all soaped up.

LOL! Luckily huskies rarely need bathed, so when I forget i’m not too worried about it. They are kind of like cats in the sense that they like to keep themselves clean.

Hey, our weekend was just as exciting…we gave two of the dogs baths as well! (Sheba is at the groomer getting hers along with a trim today). That was a good idea doing it outside in the pool, we should have thought of that. We did them in the morning though so it wasn’t super hot yet.
I let them outside after a few minutes, and first thing Cricket did was roll in the grass (at least not the dirt), and Luke did zoomies just like Delilah!

Gosh, Jodi, your life is so full of raging excitement that we can’t keep up, ๐Ÿ™‚ We mostly just sat under the air conditioner register and read to each other. No one mentioned baths or we might have had something more interesting to do.

I’m lucky, my daughter works at a kennel, so she gives our dogs baths where she works. But we just discovered a new pet supply store that has three “do it yourself ” dog washing stations. For $10 you can give your dog a bath using their shampoo, water and raised bathtubs. Much easier on our backs!

Just totally relaxed. I took Shadow and Ducky out in the backyard at least a dozen different times to play chase the ball and keep away. The rest of the time we either went out to eat, did a little food shopping, watched a movie, read a book, or slept. Really exciting stuff.

Only a dog owner can appreciate the satisfaction of bathing your dog. Hailey only gets a bath if we are desperate, as it is very traumatic for all of us. Phod has been getting baths more often as he has been stinky. The highlight of our weekend was handing plastic on the ceiling of the shed (over the insulation), so equally thrilling lol!

My fur baby, Indy, is small enough to bath in the kitchen sink. Sounds like you and your fur babies had a fun time, Jodi. ๐Ÿ™‚

As you can see, I’m weeks behind, but this story made me smile. I hear that whole dealing with a 4 year old thing PLUS bathing two dogs? Girl, you should get a damn medal! Well done. ๐Ÿ™‚
