There Will Be Swag

June 8, 2015 By Jodi

One of the things I learned on my first trip to BlogPaws was there will be swag. Lots and lots of swag. Besides the bag of stuff you get at check in, there are sponsor booths and you get tons of stuff there as well.

When BlogPaws was in D.C. I flew down and Hubby drove down to pick me up, I didn’ have to worry about getting the swag home, we had a whole car I could fill up if I needed to.

I knew I didn’t have that luxury for my Nashville trip. I debated shipping my stuff home but at the last minute, I changed my mind and packed in an extra large suitcase, one with plenty of room. I figured I’m either paying for shipping, or paying to check a bag.

Once I got to Nashville, I unpacked my suitcase and set the empty suitcase on the luggage rack.

I went through the swag bag and pulled out the items I knew I wouldn’t use and set them in a bag. The stuff I knew I’d be bringing home, I packed in the bottom of the suitcase. When I was finished wearing a particular outfit, I’d pack it away in the suitcase.  Monday morning when it was time to leave, all I had to pack was my pajamas and toiletries.

The first thing I did when I got home (after hugging on my dogs) was to bring the suitcase in and settle in to do some laundry.

The dogs were very interested in my luggage.

Delilah in particular couldn’t wait for me to unpack, she had to stick her nose in the suitcase to sniff out goodies.

Beef liver, pig’s ears and rollers, oh my!

In fact, she was so interested she actually climbed into my suitcase.

When is your next trip? If this is what you bring home, you better start traveling more.

She grabbed a small greenie I brought back for my sister’s dog, but luckily I was right on her and got it away.

Later when Hubby got home I was showing him the treats I’d brought home and I must have left the pig’s ears (Miss Flea sent home one for each of them) on the pool table. I was doing dishes and I heard a noise, that almost sounded like soda can pop. When I went into the living room I saw the bag that held the pig’s ears chewed and torn on the floor and Delilah finishing up her snack.

Somehow I missed the second pig’s ear, but thankfully Delilah made a dash for it, so I was able to save it for Sampson for a later time. Maybe when Delilah has to go for her annual vet exam.

As for the swag I didn’t want…well Flea was donating what as left of the Jones booth to a friend of hers who has a rescue in South Carolina, so I donated my stuff too.

Do your dogs help you unpack after a trip? Are they bold enough to climb into your suitcase?

Oh heck, my Girlz check every single bag that is brought into our house. After all, they think all packages are for them.

Love those photos! Cody loves to help unpack anything remotely related to food!
Sounds like Blog paws was lots of fun 🙂

NOTHING gets in here without a thorough check. It becomes an issue when my head gets caught in the handles of the grocery bags and I have to stand there till Mom helps to get me out.

    Love and licks,

We never get into the luggage thing, the cats, specifically, cat bro Bert does. Luckily, Mom rarely travels without us so we don’t have much need.

I think at least two of them would not climb in a suitcase or anywhere else looking for treats. The third one, I am not so sure….

Delilah, you’re a kid in dog’s clothing! “What did ya bring me? What did ya bring me? Huh? Huh?” That’s too cute! Glad you rescued the Greenie and Sampson’s pig ear!

Since I never really unpack, no. But when I come home with stuff for them, they are all over it!

Oh Delilah; I feel like that’s probably said constantly in your home lol 🙂

I hardly ever travel without Blueberry, but when I do, I have to unpack right away and put the suitcases in the closet otherwise it upsets her to see them out; she thinks I am leaving again.

I love that Delilah helped you unpack. 🙂

To get at pig’s ears and beef liver my dogs would have broken into the suitcase. Your girl was actually quite restrained.

That was probably pretty tempting for Delilah. Haley likes to do a quick “nose check” inspection of the shopping bags as they come through the door. She easily could have a job with the TSA.

Oh Delilah, you are too pawsomely adorable. Sam has always equated suitcases to being shuttled off and spending the next X number of days with my grandchildren who I affectionately refer to as the Pterodactyls (screechers that they are). They love him to pieces and he definitely likes them, but as kids go, they kind of terrify him. Shoot what am I saying, they terrify me too! Cool score on the swag!

Oh, you were so organized! I had everything packed haphazardly, and I sure was glad that we drove so I didn’t have to worry about getting my swag home. The dogs have had their noses in all the bags ever since I got home, and I’ve just been picking out stuff to give them here and there. I still need to go through and finish sorting everything, and I’ll be taking a bag of stuff to the shelter, and giving some to family and friends too. I really appreciated all the stuff we got!

Gambler will unpack my suitcase before I even leave and destroy my stuff.

They don’t have a suitcase large enough for me to climb in! Anyway, the cats are usually in there!
