Sock Puppy

April 27, 2015 By Jodi

Last week when I wrote about Sampson’s dew claw. I shared my struggles with keeping Sampson from licking his paw. Genevieve, Elaine and Sherrie suggested children’s/infants socks, so I popped over to BJ’s and picked up a package of toddler socks to use.

I tried modifying a couple of socks, trying to tweak them for just the right fit. Thankfully the package contained six pairs, which worked to my advantage because as it turns out, getting socks made for humans to fit a paw isn’t all that easy.

After Sampson’s surgery to remove the damaged nail on Wednesday, he came home all bandaged up. And finally, the socks fit!

Golden Lab

Must I wear this silly bag? Must you take my picture wearing it?

The first few days I used the make-shift bootie the vet’s office sent us home with for going outside and for walking.

It sure gave me a few giggles because Sampson sort of flaps when he walks, so the quiet of the morning is broken by a thwack, thwack, thwack.

I thought maybe I could try just letting him wear a sock instead of the bootie.  Turns out you shouldn’t let a hard stepping Labrador wear just a sock on a walk.

He’s worn holes in two socks. Who knew?

But who can resist how cute he is in a sock?

Dogs in socks

I’m not looking!

Dogs in socks

Really Mama, it’s like you’ve never seen a dog wearing a sock before.

I know I’m not the only one who thinks it’s adorable, because I hear comments of people we pass, exclaiming how cute it is. Or the child asking the mom why the dog is wearing a sock.

Good thing I still have 9 socks, the bandage comes off today and now the fun really begins when we try to keep him from licking.

It’s not just me right, he’s damn cute in that sock!

AmIright?

The facial expression says it all! Katie is the only one of us who has had to wear a sock, but she is white, so Mom always put white socks on her, no fun patterns.

You are 100% right! He looks adorable!! I especially love the striped sock with the red toe! It just seems to fit his sweet but mischievous personality.

He’s definitely adorable in those socks. I had to put some on Barley earlier this year to keep her from licking her paw cream (just because the licking was making me crazy), but she kept flinging them off–baby socks is a genius idea!

We had a dewclaw removal several years ago, but nothing kept Chamois from licking through surgical tape, duct tape, stinky drops. Finally we had to get the e-collar. I hope you have a more cooperative Sampson.

I hope Sampson finds hearing how cute he is in a sock a small compensation for being hurt.

Oh yes, adorable in the sock….I love that striped one!! You might remember seeing that Kobi used to wear booties around the house to help him with traction on our wood floors. I thought he was so darn cute in those things. And when he wore his Pawz for walking, people would always ask about them.

Yes! He is damn cute and I love the striped sock! When I did this for Haley, it was really fun picking out the socks. I hope the dew claw is healing nicely. 🙂

That is too stinking cute! You know, a few times, I’ve seen toddler socks in the middle of the desert on our hikes and wondered how they got there. Now I know – it was probably a dog!

Did you update your version of WordPress? They released a patch. 🙂 The sock is cute. Is he going to have to wear the cone of shame?
