Balls – Barks and Bytes

March 5, 2015 By Jodi

I'm Speaking at BlogPaws 2015! Let's meet there!

I may have mentioned this before, and you’ll probably hear it a few more times, but I’ll be offering table discussions on engaging your audience at BlogPaws in Nashville in May.  I’m hoping to see a whole bunch of you there!

In the meantime, Tuesday night BlogPaws announced the Finalists for the Nose to Nose Blogging Awards, which take place on Saturday night.

I'm not so much concerned with awards as I am with naps. Is there an award for naps?

I’m not so much concerned with awards as I am with naps. Is there an award for naps?

Congratulations to all our friends, I’ll be there cheering you on!!

Of course, these are just the peeps we know, you can check out the complete list on BlogPaws.

Balls

When we walk our neighborhood I’m on high alert.

Not only do I have to be watchful of wild animals (deer, coyotes, fox, fishers,) I have to watch for cars (we have no sidewalks), cats that stalk us,  dogs charging e-fences, loose dogs and dumb ass dog owners.

Because of my watchfulness if there is something to be seen, I typically see it before the dogs.

I can also recognize objects and usually well in advance.  That is of course unless I’m confusing a chiminea with a wild turkey.

And sometimes the dogs see/hear/smell something that I just can’t.  You know those times.  When their ears perk up, they straighten up and are straining at the leash.

Those are the times where I get hyper alert.  I mean, I wouldn’t want a coyote to pop out at me!

Surprise mutherfucker!  He he he, you should see the look on your face.  (Photo courtesy of Animal Pictures)

It happened on Tuesday.

No, a coyote did not pop out at me (thank God!) You would have heard of that well before now, I’d have been tweeting the shit out of THAT.

No, the dogs saw something.

Chocolate lab sees ball

What is that?

Notice Delilah.  She sees it and wants a bit of it.

Dogs see something

Sampson are you paying attention?

Can you see what it is?  How about now?

Dogs on walk

We’re Almost THERE!

We got within the last five feet and they practically dragged me over.

Balls said the Queen.

It’s just a ball.

“Balls” said Queen Delilah, “If I had two I’d be King.”

““Balls” said Queen Delilah, “If I had two I’d be King.”” Oh. My. God! I can’t stop laughing!! A coyote popping out at me would make me shit my pants, especially in my own yard or neighborhood!!

Congrats to all the finalists from me, too!!

Gah! You said it Queen D.!! I love seeing a beach all in the snow. It gives me hope.

    Love and licks,

Mom loves it when we get our furs all ruffled about something we see in the distance, we carefully approach, ready to kill, and upps…just a piece of trash… We have coyotes here and recently a lab was attacked in a neighborhood, so they are nothing to casually ignore!

Sheesh…it’s early…thanks so much for the mention about being a finalist. We are so excited and we can’t wait to see you in Nashville. We will be the two similar looking girls with the pink cowboy hats…if Mom lets us wear them. We will do our best not to howl during your class too.

Congrats to all the finalist! Haha pee’d myself on the coyote caption! That is a great picture you picked. Did they get to bring the ball home?

OMD, I snorted coffee all over my keyboard! That was the best way to start the day–thanks ever so for a smile. I don’t think I’ll be forgetting that coyote narrative for quite some time and even though I gave up swearing for Lent (BTW, what the hell was I thinking doing THAT?), no doubt I’ll be silently recalling it as I wander our neighborhood which has its own resident coyote wandering around looking for stray cats. Is that technically considered a sin? 🙂

P.S. Many congrats to all the nominees. Best of luck! <3

I thought maybe it was a coyote disguised as a ball…which would certainly call for fresh underwear.

Beach ball? Someone’s dreaming! What I wonder is what you thought it might be before you got there?

We were also happy to see some of our friends amongst the nominees and look forward to cheering for them too.

I would have never guessed what that was. In the middle of winter no less what the eck. Thanks so much for the shot out, I’m still in shock. I’m very excited and honored for the nomination.

“confusing a chiminea with a wild turkey” – Lol. That sounds like something I would do. Rita has found many stray balls on walks – so more than two, and she never got to be king. 🙂

Cool about the table discussions at BP, but I don’t really know what that means. Does that mean folks can just sit and join you for a smaller, more informal chat about stuff, as opposed to giving a lecture from a podium in front of a bunch of folks?

And, yes, congrats to the nominees!

  21. Chelsea Price says

    March 5, 2015 at 9:08 pm

Sooo many LOLs at your last line! Your dogs seem to be extra good at finding things: first bread in a snowbank, now a deflated beach ball in the street! My sister’s dog repeatedly pawed at a specific place on the couch for, like, months before someone finally decided to look under it…only to find a squeaky hot dog toy. Those doggie senses are something, aren’t they? 🙂

  22. Rachele Baker, DVM says

    March 6, 2015 at 8:30 pm

The dogs were probably hoping for something a little more interesting than a beach ball. Like maybe something they could chase. Oh well, I’m sure they still had fun.
