Curiosity…it’s Not Just for Cats

September 15, 2014 By Jodi

What's that Mama, inquiring labs want to know.

What’s that Mama, inquiring labs want to know.

I think I'll just stick my lab-ra-nose right here and see what it is.

What the Woof!

What the Woof!

Do you see that? It moved, the dang thing moved!

Do you see that? It moved, the dang thing moved!

This happened last weekend on one of our walks.  I love watching her explore new things.  Of course I had the benefit of know what was going to happen.  But I love how she followed the steam of the sprinkler with her eyes.  What do your pets do when confronted with something they haven’t seen before?

LOL! This summer when the sprinklers started popping up on our walks, Bailie was fascinated. I had to check our own system one day and she just went crazy watching them come up and go down, spray, etc. It is super fun to watch them “investigate”.

😀 Delilah, you crack me up! Maya’s nosy too. I have to be careful with her on walks because she wants to inspect everything and put it in her mouth. When she was a puppy, she picked up a broken glass bottle! It cut her tongue, but luckily not badly. BTW, Maya absolutely loves those sprinklers. Her and Pierson both attack the water and have a good old time.

I take one of 2 paths. Hide behind Mom and turn to stone or stick my face in like Delilah. Sometimes when I dive in face first, Mom says the word, “You’re going to get stuck.” She’s crazy. Sometimes, I don’t get stuck.

    Love and licks,

Barley is a little spastic when she encounters new things. If they change something on one of the trails we go to, she will stop several feet a way and won’t budge; then she border collie stares it. They put a rock with a memorial plaque along one of the trails we frequent and she put on the breaks and then got in her border collie crouch complete with stare and slowly circled it until she was sure it wasn’t going to move. And don’t even get me started on the nude statue in a sculpture garden we visited!

So cute! Ours are usually pretty skittish of new things, and slowly creep up on them. Luke loves to bite at the hose, so I wanted to set up a sprinkler for him this year but never did.

So cute!! When encountering something new… Cooper barks his face off! Although, my decidedly-not-Labs know what sprinklers are and pull me far, far away from them lest a drop of water touch their toes.
