Some Big Easy

March 17, 2014 By Jodi

I updated via Facebook on Friday but for those that may have missed it, Sampson’s ACL tear was confirmed by the surgeon on Friday and he is scheduled for repair on the 25th.  I feel bad he has to go another week, but I’m terrified all at the same time!  As you can imagine I wanted to make sure he was as comfortable and happy as we could make him.

So, this weekend we took our dear friend Molly the Wally‘s advice and made time for some big easy.

Saturday was mild, still on the chilly side, but not cold.  Sampson has been bored out of his mind and wanted to spend some time outside.  Since he can’t be outside by himself, I went out with him.

I'm starting to see some yard, I sure wish I could run up there.

I’m starting to see some yard, I sure wish I could run up there.

We laid out on the deck, soaking up the beautiful day for about 20 minutes or so.

Hey Mama, thanks for taking me outside.

Hey Mama, thanks for taking me outside.

When Hubby came home he had make some repairs to one of our gates, so he took Sampson with him out front.  Our grandson happened to be over and Hubby asked him if he could stay with Sampson and keep him company.

Excuse the cars in the drive, but isn't that an adorable photo?

Sampson loves spending time just sitting in the driveway watching the world go by.

Yes it's true, I like sitting in the driveway.

Yes it’s true, I like sitting in the driveway.

Since the first few weeks after surgery are going to be extremely restricted, we will try and give him as much of the things he loves as we possibly can.

How about you, did you make some time for some big easy this past weekend?  What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Mrs. Worrywart, Sampson will be fine. I, too, hate that he has to wait so long; but the days seem to fly away around here. Call me if you want/need to after you leave Sampson with the surgeon. Maybe your hubby should go with you so HE can drive.

As for the weekend? Saturday was cloudy, but dry. I played with the girls out in the yard for a while, and watched Duke beat Clemson in the ACC tournament. But then yesterday Virginia showed Duke that Karma is indeed a bitch and we high-fived each other. Since it rained all day on Sunday, we played inside games with the girls in between their naps and potty breaks. And had an early dinner at Outback. Supposed to have the rain all day today, too. YUCK!

Love the picture of your grandson with Sampson!!

Great that you can give the dear boy as much ‘him’ time as possible.

Glad you got some big easy in this weekend and good idea to be outside and just hang out. We have been doing some of that as the weather here has been blissful. Have a marvellous Monday and Happy St Patrick’s Day.
    Best wishes Molly

Sounds like you had a nice weekend. I am glad Sampson was able to get out and enjoy. Our Golden used to love to be out front with us just watching the world go by. Chessies like to bark at the world. 🙂

It is still cold here. 11 right now…

On the brighter side, since he is not a youngster, it will be a bit easier to keep him quiet. Good you could just hang out and relax a bit over the weekend.

Looks like Sampson enjoyed his special time. It was warmer here this weekend, and the dogs enjoyed being outside. Woke up this morning and it was cold again. They didn’t want to stay outside for long on their morning business break. Lightning hurt his foot Friday, and I immediately thought about Sampson. I think he has a broken toe. I took him to the vet, she examined him and thought maybe it was his knee (again, I thought of Sampson!) but his toe was weird too. He stayed overnight for sedation and xray the next morning, and the next morning they found that he was running around with no limp…..he totally faked the vet out because he started limping again as soon as I got him home. ***sigh*** Anyway, this experience made me feel even more sympathetic for you and Sampson. Saying prayers for you and him.

I missed the update, and was thinking of you on Friday. Everything will be fine. Dogs heal so quickly and he will be back at it for some summer fun.

So glad you got outside and had some mellow time with Sampson. Saturday we enjoyed a lot of time outdoors. Good thing because we had freezing rain and sleet all day yesterday! I know you’re worried, but I bet Sampson comes through this surgery with flying colors! Recovery time feels like forever when you’re in it, but later it will feel like no big deal! Really!

OH poor Sampson…our Sally had ACL surgery twice…yep both knees. We know what it’s like trying to keep a Lab on restriction. So sad. Hopefully everything goes fine and he’s on the mend ASAP.

It has been sunny and 70s here. Wish I could share it with everyone across the country in exchange for a little rain.

Don’t worry too much Jodi, I’m sure he’ll understand. Dogs are more adaptable than we give them credit for. He’ll love just spending time with you.

We had a nice weekend, a summery day on Saturday and now back to snow! Lots of frozen snorting snuffly noises as those nasal vacuum cleaners plow through the snow.

How nice Sampson got to spend some time outside and had some company. Hopefully you can do a lot of that just relaxing outside while he is recovering.
I know surgery is scary, but it will be fine. I have heard of so many dogs that have been through it and are doing great now.

It wasn’t as warm as we were hoping for here. Hubby played with the dogs outside for a while on Saturday, and I did on Sunday. He got the nicer day which doesn’t seem fair! Neither day was anything to write home about though. We’re hoping for things to get better this week.

Sampson just likes keeping up with the goings-on in the ‘hood 🙂 My neighbour’s corgi is a big fan of sitting in the front yard and watching the world go by. When he stays with us, he wedges himself by the fence to peer out at the road for ages at a time, since we aren’t willing to let him just wander the front yard like he does when he’s at home.
In case all the other reassurances aren’t enough – everything’s going to be fine.

Soon you will be feeling strong and running fast, Sampson. Hang in there, buddy. I tried to make some street-nap time this weekend, but Mom said, “It’s 18 degrees!” And she called me the name of Lunatic. Oh well…. Maybe tomorrow.

He’s going to be fine, mom. I’m guessing you’d only choose a good vet, someone who knows what they’re doing, who’s done this surgery before. And a lot of people are crossing their paws and praying for y’all.

Glad you had some nice relaxing time together. Rita and I went on some long walks (the hubs was away so we were on our own) but the rest of the weekend I was bitten by a spring cleaning bug. Weather here was grossly hot. At this point, i’m looking forward to some of San Diego’s “May gray” cuz it seems that will be the closest thing we’ll have to winter!
