Winter Wonderland

January 7, 2014 By Jodi

Last week Sampson, Delilah and I were lucky enough to take a walk during a snowfall.  I love walking with my dogs in the woods when it’s snowing.  There is something so peaceful and beautiful about falling snow.

Winter Walk 1 The trees are blanketed in winter white and the outside world is muffled to our ears.

Winter Walk 2

I love watching the dogs enjoy the snow.  Because all of the good smells aren’t right on the surface, they have a tendency to bury their noses, which makes for some really cute photos.

Like this one.

Winter Walk 3 Sampson with a ‘soul patch.’

Or this one.

Winter Walk 4 Delilah with a frosted nose.

The only thing about freshly fallen snow I don’t like, is that it fades too fast.  Within a day the snow is all marked up with foot prints and dirt.

Snow is best enjoyed fresh.  Have you ever had the wonderful experience of walking in freshly fallen snow?  Those of you who get snow, do your dogs like it or not?  For those of you who don’t what types of walks do your dogs prefer?

I love snow – it makes everything seem all right with the world, just for a little bit!!

I love snow. My mother is not a fan of snow though, because when it’s windy we get so high snowdrifts that we are not able to walk away.

Our dogs like any weather. They don’t get to experience snow much but when they do they end up with pompom feet (they’re long haired). Yours luckily have short hair and the snow doesn’t stick.

Lovely pics of the snow covered noses! We only really get the chance to walk on fresh snow in our garden, which really is one of the best feelings ever! Although there hasn’t been any snow here yet. I think we’ll get it in Feb. x

New falling snow is like a magnet. As soon as there’s a little coating, every dog in my apartment complex is out walking. Cupcake is fine with the snow till it touches her belly. Then she gets spooked. She also digs her bony little nose under the snow. Once she came up with a frozen potato chip!! And I’m pretty sure she can smell frozen goose poop Popsicles under 2 feet of snow!!

Mom loves that fresh pristine snow with no foot/paw prints in it. If she had her wish the entire yard would stay that way all winter, but with us tramplers, there is no chance! A walk in the snow is the most peaceful thing ever…except of course when Mom breaks the peace yelling at us about something we are doing and not listening to her!

Look at those sweet faces. Mine always end up with snow on their noses…lol. I guess you can figure out why! We have too much darn snow this year to enjoy walks in the woods…bah humbug!

Snow pictures is the only think I like about the snow. The pine trees covered in snow are beautiful.

Yes I love fresh fallen snow! It is so pretty and one thing I really like for some reason is seeing my huskies perfect paw prints in the fresh snow! It is just so pretty!!!

Torrey will bury her nose in snow, always cracks me up. Walking in fresh snow is very peaceful.

I have walked in fresh, falling snow before and it’s lovely! Rita hasn’t experienced that yet though. So her fave kind of walk is a hike where there’s a gentle, shallow stream that she can plop down in. She LOVES that!

I’ve never been a fan of soul patches – but Sampson makes it look good!

Cali loved the snow! I wish we could get a little snow storm to see how little Mackenzie would react 🙂 I love walking in freshly fallen snow – it’s so peaceful!!

We don’t get snow so we took the dogs to the mountains a couple of years ago. They took a few steps and said, “You’ve got to be kidding.” And went back to the car.

Yes, we are hot house flowers.

I love watching the dogs play in the snow. They’re so cute! Love the snow-noses.

your photos are beautiful! I like “normal” snow, not the over-a-foot with below zero temps that we are having right now. Dakota’s fur is so long and gets so wet that I often wish he were a short-haired dog! This weather is brutal, but the snow you have above, we like!

In general, Bunny gets really invigorated by the snow, but the stuff we’ve had lately is just too cold. Flattery has pretty much decided that she hates it. She runs and hides at turn out time now. I hear we’re supposed to get rain on Friday. Maybe that will improve her outlook on life…

We totally agree!! Freshly fallen snow…with NO footprints and NO yellow stuff. That’s the BEST kind!

    Love those last 2 photos!
Moses and Alma love snow – they were built for it, and where we live, it’s not like they’d have much of a choice, anyway!
Fresh snow is definitely the best – especially when it’s a cold, quite evening and we have the neighbourhood to ourselves.
Moses is partial to wet snow, though. If you can make snowballs for him, he’s thrilled!

You are so right, there is nothing better and more peaceful than being out walking in a snowstorm. The other thing I love is a sunny day after a snowstorm when the trees are still covered.
The dogs all love the snow, even Luke is getting used to it. Cricket prefers playing ball in it to walking though. If there is fresh snow on the ground on a weekend morning she will sit and whine at the cabinet where their balls are kept!

So pretty! I love how soft and quiet snow walks are! It’s definitely been weird having our first snow-less winter, and I miss those lovely winter walks!
