This ‘N That Thursday – August 22, 2013

August 22, 2013 By Jodi

This ‘N That Thursday is the brainchild of Linda from 2 Brown Dawgs; because some days you have a little of this or a lot of that.

Many thanks to our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs Blog.

Lick Granuloma Redux

Sampson had to go back to the Vet’s on Tuesday, he’s been licking at his paw again. ๐Ÿ™

A close-up of the boo boo while he was being treated.

I wrapped it in a desperate attempt to keep him from licking.

I wrapped it in a desperate attempt to keep him from licking.

This time we saw our regular Vet who scraped the spot and checked it under the microscope.

The diagnosis is a lick Granuloma which is now infected because he’s licked it so much. ย The treatment is a three week course of antibiotics (Clindamycin), a three week course of twice a week cold laser treatment and a nerve blocker (Gabapentin).

This cold laser isn't so bad, this guy keeps feeding me noms.

This cold laser isn’t so bad, this guy keeps feeding me noms.

I couldn’t understand WHY he’s licking it and Dr. Soutter explained it could have been anything that initially drew him to the spot, and once he’s irritated the nerve, it will keep bothering him and he will keep licking. The hope is the antibiotic and cold laser will help the granuloma heal, while the nerve blocker will settle the nerves down. ย The goal is to take him off the nerve blocker and the licking will stop.

Paws crossed.

Blogville Calendar

Julie is hard at work resizing the photos for easier display on the blog.ย  Fingers crossed voting will still begin on Saturday.ย  If for some reason I can’t manage it, then we will still have a week to vote.

My mom who recently began reading the blog keeps asking me if I’ll show her how to vote. ๐Ÿ˜€ย  I’m pretty sure the voting process will be fairly easy, as long as I use the same system I used last year.ย  But yes Mom, I’ll make sure you know how to vote.

Farting and Douching on Facebook

You know Facebook is a great time suck for me.ย  Last night feeling highly unmotivated I found myself in an innocent little chat with a couple of other bloggers.ย  One thing led to another and before you know it, we were talking about farting and shortly after that douching.ย  This morning the conversation has turned to Unicorns.

You never know what you’ll find on Facebook.ย  It really helped lighten my mood and I gave me something to add to today’s post.ย  So thank you ladies, one and all.

Follow-Up Friday

Please join us tomorrow for the Follow-Up Friday blog hop where my co-hostess will be JoAnn Stancer from Sand Spring Chesapeakes.

My vet used a laser treatment on Lightning after his surgery earlier this year, and I was really impressed with how effective it was. Fingers crossed it works for Samson too. I’m so sorry I missed the deadline to send in a picture….sometimes I think I have no memory at all.

Poor Sampson, hope these treatments work for him!!

Wish I’d known about that conversation last night! I was playing solitaire on my Kindle. And watching Casablanca — I LOVE Bogie, what can I say! ๐Ÿ™‚

My crazy two weeks will hopefully end late this afternoon, when the fridge gets fixed (I hope!). I need to get started on revamping the blog…and reading the material for my CEP course.

Cali had a lick granuloma for the longest time on one of her back feet. I used to put a sock on her – which was embarrassing for the poor girl when we forgot to take it off and took her out for a stroll ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope the treatment works!

I was LMAO reading that thread last night – you ladies all make me smile ๐Ÿ™‚

Sometimes with humans we will scratch and the scratching will cause an irritation that will continue to itch, setting up a cycle. My vet said that sometimes that happens with dogs. Hopefully the paw will heal but meantime cute sockie.

You have to nip that licking stuff in the bud or it gets nasty. If you ever notice one of the pups starting to lick all the time, put some Desenex Athletes Foot Powder on the area. It takes away the itch, dries out the area, and the dog will stop licking. My sister starts that licking stuff on her paws and this works wonders…got the tip from a breeder.

Thanks for the update on Sampson! You’ll have to let me know how the laser treatment goes! Interesting about the licking and the nerves being affected! Thanks for explaining that!

Had very bad nightmares last night ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope Sampson’s paw is better soon. Sheba licks her paws some, but we have always been able to get her to stop. I had no idea it could get that bad, so we’ll definitely keep an eye on her.

Poor Sampson! Maya is licking her paws, but hers is due to chigger bites. Chiggers have been really bad this year.

Thanks so much for participating in TNT. Poor Sampson. I hope his foot is better soon. I keep getting sucked in to games on FB. Most are mindless and I have been mentally exhausted this week. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry Sampson is still licking at himself and causing sores. My family had a shepherd when we were growing up that used to have the same horrible habit. Hope the cold laser helps – I don’t even think treatments like that were available way back when. ๐Ÿ™‚

Poor Sampson! Hope his lick granuloma is better soon! Glad he’s getting a comprehensive approach to treatment so he can get some relief!
I wish I had submitted some photos for the calendar contest, but that’s okay. It’s hard for me not to edit my photos in some way or another. Like hey, this is a perfect picture… you know, except for that whole giant eye booger thing. My need to “fix” is overwhelming, lol. Can’t wait to see everyone else’s pics, though!
I stay off FB as much as possible these days just due to the timesuck factor, but I’m clearly missing out on some hilarity. I hardly use my personal FB, and my FB for the blog all but gets ignored… poor thing.

Apologies to Sampson–who I realize is the star of this post (and I really do hope he feels better soon)–but I cannot believe you got that in there. LOL
