Delilah Likes to Roll in Smelly Things

June 26, 2013 By Jodi

Well it’s true.  Delilah loves to roll in smelly things.  Her favorites being dryer sheets.  She gets a far away dreamy look in her eyes, takes the sheet in her mouth, tears it to shreds and then rolls in it.

She also likes dirty towels, Hubby’s garage rags and Grandma’s underwear.  Why she wants to smell like Grandma’s cooter is beyond me, we just need to keep in mind not to pet her after she’s been visiting Grandma.

Typically she leaves my clothes alone, I take that as a good sign that my deodorant is working.  Every once in a while though, she’ll take one of my shirts.

Yesterday was one of those days. I was changing my clothes so I could take them for their walk.  I had taken off my shirt and thrown it on the floor.

I heard a noise and looked up to see Delilah rolling around on my shirt.

How cute I thought, she wants to smell like me.  I whipped out my cell phone and started the video.

Yes that was me gasping as I realized she was trying to SHRED my shirt.  It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye, or in this case their shirt.

When I showed the video to Hubby he said, “Why is she tearing your shirt?”

Eye roll.  Well she wasn’t when the video started!!  Holy smack, how did that happen?  Have you ever had your pet turn the tables on you?

I like to take the occasional “dip into the dirty laundry basket”. I have never ruined anything but I really enjoy gnawing on dirty undies…anyone’s will do…until they are sopping wet. Sometimes I steal undies or socks when mom is doing the laundry and hide them which she says isn’t nice because it defeats the purpose of her doing the laundry. So uptight she is sometimes 🙂 Bummer with your shirt, hope it wasn’t a total loss!

My dogs specialize in rolling in dead seals at the ocean or dead fish at the lake. That seems to be the only odor that they feel like wearing for long. Needless to say, they pretty much stay on leashes when those things are looming.

    Heehee. Grandma’s cooter. Oh dear.

Thankfully Rita is not into that sorta thing, but our last pup loved to carry our socks and undies around. She would occasionally chew a hole here and there – thankfully never the crotch. Mostly she liked to suck on stuff – especially dirty socks. She was such a sock-sucker. Many was the time we came home to find her sleeping with one of our socks.

Good plan, Delilah! Shirts are delicious. Your strategy of rolling and then munching is subtle and effective!

    Love and licks,

    Weirdo! That’s too funny!

You know your shirt must have smelled a little if she rolling in it. Or wait! Maybe it didn’t smell at all and she got mad and THAT is why she started tearing into it! 😉

Blueberry only rolls in smells that are on the ground during our walks in the park or while hiking.

    Hi Y’all!

Shame on you Delilah! Shame, shame! You’re a retriever. You should have taken your person’s shirt and put it in the hamper for her! Or at the very least, lay it on the washing machine. Yes, I said on the washing machine! You do know what that is don’t you? Retrievers are supposed to help their humans! Shame on you Delilah!

You really made me laugh with grandmas cooter 🙂

Funny how some dogs just love to roll in smelly things, and some like to lick stinky feet 😉

Jodi you crack me up! I pissed when I read you wrote cooter! let along Grandma’s cooter! Gambler & Glory don’t roll on underwear they carry them downstairs and deposit them in the living room. I find my bra’s hanging on the banister where John puts them when he finds them. They turn on me also when I am taking pics or videoing them also and start wrecking the item. The video was awesome!

Lila used to like to gather socks, sniff and move them around, but she’s grown out of the habit now. I hope it wasn’t one of your favorite shirts that got shredded! Too funny.

Paragraph 2 made me spit my coffee. Then I watched the video and the last millisecond (when you realised what she was doing) made me choke. Thanks. 🙂

Cute video. Wyatt loves our clothes, shoes, gloves. If our front door remained open, everything from our closet would be out in the yard. Come to think of it, there is one bath towel and a flip flop out there now.
