A Little Yankee Ingenuity

May 7, 2013 By Jodi

Oh my god, I forgot to make the dog’s treats! I shouted at Hubby.

It was 9 o’clock and Delilah was ready for her snack.

Every morning as I’m washing up the dishes, I was out the bones from the night before and frost the end with pumpkin, leaving them to set in the freezer while I’m at work.  Once I get home, I prepare the dog’s food and fill the bone with yogurt and let it freeze until snack time.

I had frozen the pumpkin but forgotten to add anything else to the treat.

There was no way a certain Chocolate Lab was going to settle for a tiny bit of frozen pumpkin..

Think Quick!

IMG_4917 I had some frozen pineapple bits which I tucked into the bone.

IMG_4918 Remember the Tasty Cubes I made?  Well I took one and smashed it in to the bone.  It was just enough to make it enjoyable for her.

A little luck pitted with a little Yankee Ingenuity and all was right in Delilah’s world.

This is the Tasty Tuesday Blog Hop, hosted by Kol’s Notes and Sugar the Golden Retriever.

I think my dogs must not be spoiled enough. The only home made treat they get is yogurt from the carton and banana, with a touch of coconut oil.

Woof! Woof! What a tasty treat. Great combo of pineapple and pumpkin. Using cube mold is a good way for portion control. What kind of bone you are using? Happy Tasty Tuesday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

That is one of the older white bones. The newer white bones are not as good.

Such a good dog mom! Non dog people would find that ridiculous but we totally understand…good you had some other frozen items to add!

There ya go! We dog moms have to get creative sometimes, whether we’re “damn Yankees” or “Suthenahs” I’ve have to find some of those bone-shaped cookie cutters! I used to have some but I don’t know what happened to them.

Resourcefulness – I admire that in a dog mom…but it comes with the territory doesn’t it. Great ideas though – thanks!

We ALL know we can’t forget to make the treats! The dogs are not very happy with us when we forget… Glad you could quickly throw something together to appease Delilah…that could’ve been a disaster otherwise! 😉

Methinks the lady is held hostage by her dog.

Yeah, I know. I am too. Mine needs a mid-day snack or she feels peckish early for dinner and lets me hear about it. 🙂

Every day treat creation?? You are ambitious! I just whipped up a batch of Cupcake’s yogurt, peanut butter, banana, honey frozen treats (with a Milk Bone handle). The last time I made them was last summer!!

Are those real bones that you are stuffing? I should try to find some small enough for Chester and Gretel to use in place of the Kongs…or rather as an occasional alternate to because I think I might get a blank stare with that too. Gretel loves her Kong!

Clever treats and I’m sure they loved them. I would mix plain yogurt with pumpkin and stuff in a kong and freeze. They love them.
