Your Dog Wears Boots, Mine Wears Slippers

January 7, 2013 By Jodi

Delilah loves dryers sheets.

Sometimes I give them to her.

Just because.

Her eyes glaze over and she has this dreamy look about her.

She takes the dryer sheet and using her teeth and feet, and tears them up.

Then she rubs her head in them.

(Like that could get rid of her Frito smell.)

She loves them so much that sometimes she sticks her nose in the laundry basket and rummages about like a pig in the wild, looking for a dryer sheet.

Yes, she loves them that much.

So it should come as no surprise that at any given time during the day it’s very possible you might come across a dryer sheet (or two or three) somewhere in my house.

Sure, I could pick them up, but why deprive her of the pleasure?

You can imagine with so many dryer sheets lying about, it sometimes makes for a little bit of amusement around the house.

Like the time Delilah came to dinner with her fancy new slippers.

I laughed so hard I could barely take the picture.

I laughed so hard I could barely take the picture.

She had one on each of her front feet.

She had one on each of her front feet.

I wasn’t quick enough with the camera to do the situation justice.

Do your dogs have any idiosyncrasies that make you laugh?

Haha – Frito smell. I always call it the Cheeto smell!

Fritos/cheetos/nachos/dirty feet. It still smells! LOL

They have plenty of idiosyncrasies, but one I love of Jeffie’s: He “helps” with laundry. As I load the washer, he’s busy rubbing all over the stuff in the laundry basket. As I load the dryer, ditto. As I pull the dry clothes out of the dryer he really goes to town. Everyone will always know that we belong to Jeffie πŸ™‚ And I don’t care a snap that we’re always covered with dog hair.

Awe Sue, that’s sweet. Delilah rubs in dirty clothes too, mostly socks, dish towels and underwear. :-0 And yes, dog hair is a given.

Silly Delilah. I have never heard of a dog being so enamored of dryer sheets. lol

You need to contact the brand of dryer sheets that you use and tell them that. That is TOO funny!!
Dakota is obsessed with watching me do the laundry every time I do it…wonder if HE has a secret passion for dryer sheets? BOL!

Try giving him one Caren and see if he’s a closet dryer sheet rubber. πŸ˜‰

Quite apart from the dryer sheet slippers, that smile is to die for!

Moey does the dryer sheet thing too! Only he likes to EAT them! So usually while doing laundry there is a scramble for who will get the dryer sheet first. Mo also LOVES,LOVES, LOVES, when the clothes are removed from the dryer. He waits for me to put the warm clothes on the sofa, and can not wait to climb in them and bury his little face in them. I think he may be a bit racist, as it appears he likes the white ones best (I think its the bleachy smell….I love that smell too!!) I think it’s hysterical!! He dances to get into that warm laundry pile as if he was getting filet mignon! He sits in the pile until he overheats and pants like a fool! I’d add a picture, but I dont know how!

This time of year I enjoy stealing one of mom’s gloves when she is getting ready to go out. I sneak it away to a secure location, slobber and chew on it so she can’t wear it because it is too wet. Although she is not happy about this behavior, it does make her laugh every time!

    • Jodi Stone says

      January 12, 2013 at 7:00 am

You know Emma, Beauregard chewed one of my gloves the day he left! But my gloves are always gooey and slobbery because of all the treats they get on our walks.

  8. Rosemary says

My dogs love the dryer sheets but I was always afraid to let them have ’em because I thought they would be harmful. Gracie plays with them till I can get them away from her but Henri eats them!

    • Jodi Stone says

      January 12, 2013 at 7:03 am

I’m pretty sure they ARE harmful to eat!! I only give them to Delilah because she doesn’t eat them, she only shreds them.

  9. lauren says

    January 7, 2013 at 9:26 am

That is so funny! I love the idea of her rummaging through the laundry.

Desmond doesn’t really have any little things like this that he does. He pretty much is sleeping or bouncing off the walls playing fetch. There’s no in between time or down time where he just does his own thing. But what he does do that I kind of love–even though it’s terrible that we enable it–is whine and pout and fuss if he feels like snuggling up with someone and is alone. Even if you’re just a few inches out of reach, he gets so frustrated and then so annoyed that HE has to get up and move so he can climb into your lap.

    • Jodi Stone says

      January 12, 2013 at 7:05 am

Oh Lauren, that is cute! Sampson will stick his nose under you hand when he wants you to pet him. He will inch closer, then whoops, there goes your hand.

Enabling your dog to do something cute is okay! In our tricks class the trainer told us, if your dog does something cute, cue it and make it a command.

      Pout Desmond. πŸ™‚

We don’t use dryer sheets, but Silas likes to watch me do the laundry just in case I drop a sock. The funny thing is, he doesn’t know what to do with it when he gets one.

    I love Delilah’s slippers!

We don’t use dryer sheets but my dogs seem to think tissue and paper towels taste like bacon. Except they mostly just tear them up to make a mess for me to clean up.

    • Jodi Stone says

      January 12, 2013 at 7:08 am

The watch. Yes, Delilah wears one two. Snack time is at 9:00 and most nights she comes over from whatever she is doing and reminds me. πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by!!

What a lovely white slipper you have there. Looks like the prince needs to come with the matching glass slipper and take you off to live happily ever after.

We didn’t have white slippers, but we had white trees this morning.

You should enjoy and revel in the Frito smell. Mom says I smell like I’m on a steady diet of sauerkraut and poop! I have no weird habits like that dryer sheet thing…. Unless you count that every time Mom leaves a cabinet open, I take out one piece of Tupperware at a time and make a collection in front of the living room door, as if I’m going to have a Tupperware party! That’s normal…. Right?

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

    • Jodi Stone says

      January 12, 2013 at 7:35 am

Well of course it’s normal Cupcake, do you start barking after it’s out, like you’re giving a party?

  19. Sue at The Golden Life says

    January 7, 2013 at 3:43 pm

Ah, now that I have a little bit of time for myself, I can reply to this post (which I love by the way!)….
Shadow shadows me ALL around the house, including the bathroom (where she will sit and wait for me to pet her or tell her she’s a good girl). And, when I have to close the kitchen doors to keep her & Callie out while I let Ducky eat, Shadow gives me this look like “what did I do wrong? why can’t I stay with you?”.
Ducky, dear sweet little demon dog, barks and growls when she REALLY needs to go outside. And the more she needs to go, the more she barks and growls. I didn’t realize it at first, but now that I do, it makes me laugh.
And last but certainly not least, Callie. Poor Callie hates storms. As soon as she senses one in the making, she starts whining and trying to climb into my lap. An 80-lb. dog is not exactly a lightweight. I hate to do it because I know she’s anxious, but I actually have to body-block her. As for things that make me laugh, she will immediately react to a reactive dog on the TV as if to tell that dog to settle down and get a grip. When I was able to and did watch The Dog Whisperer, she would constantly bark at the dogs Cesar was working with if they gave him any trouble. And, she will clean both Shadow’s and Ducky’s ears & face when they allow it. (Shadow loves this treatment from her sister; Ducky would rather play than relax and enjoy it.)

    • Jodi Stone says

      January 12, 2013 at 7:37 am

Well you have quite a group going over there Sue!! Shadow, was she named because she shadowed you? Delilah does that too, she follows me EVERYWHERE and when I’m somewhere and she’s not, that usually means T-R-O-U-B-L-E. :-0

  20. Gizmo (@GizmoGeodog) says

    January 7, 2013 at 4:45 pm

Gizmo’s idiosyncracy is that he doesn’t do what other dogs do…looks at squirrels but never chases them…not interested in balls, bones or rawhide…doesn’t steal sock, shoes or underwear…doesn’t sneak food off my plate even if it’s on the coffee table in front of him …and I don’t know why he’s this way, it’s not like I’ve trained him…it’s just him

    • Jodi Stone says

      January 12, 2013 at 7:39 am

Wow, that impresses me. Sampson is much the same with the exception of squirrels, he will chase squirrels, but he’s right up there with Gizmo for the rest. πŸ™‚

Plunger is the same way with dryer sheets! He pulls them out of the garbage and tears them apart. However, he has never worn them to dinner:)

      January 12, 2013 at 7:40 am

LOL, well then apparently you don’t require your dogs to dress in formal attire to eat. πŸ™‚

  23. dawn says

    January 8, 2013 at 5:52 am

Hmmm, maybe you could figure something out so she can clean the floor with her dryer sheet slippers.

Ricochet likes tissues. A couple of times I’ve grabbed a tissue to wipe goobers out of his eyes only to have the tissue disappear down his throat before I could get near his eyes. Not a big problem now that’s he’s blind and can’t see the tissue coming at him, although we do have to keep the garbage away from him.

    • Jodi Stone says

      January 12, 2013 at 7:42 am

Dawn I did think that while I was formulating the post in my head and then when I sat to write it, it was gone.

Delilah loves tissues too, but she doesn’t usually eat them, she usually tears them up too, tissues, paper towels, etc.

Poor Ricochet, is he totally blind?
