The Gift Every Dog Walker Needs for Christmas

December 17, 2012 By Jodi

There are many things I dislike about winter, but the one that has to rank right up there at the top is walking the dogs in the dark and trying to pick up poop.

Okay, so that was two things.

Picking up poop is hard in the dark.  Sometimes you can see the steam, but other times you can’t.

You try to hold onto your leash, open a poop bag with numb fingers and shine a flashlight on the poop at the same time, then pick it up and tie off the bag.

It’s next to impossible.

What every dog walker needs for Christmas

Besides a professional dog walker?

A cyclops.

No, not the one-eyed mystical giant.

Last year Hubby got me the best gift for walking the dogs at night.

It’s made by Cyclops and clips onto your hat or visor.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.

This is me rocking my cyclops hands free light on my ear muff visor.

I love this little light.

As soon as I step out the door I turn on the light.  When a car approaches and we stop to sit, I look down at Delilah and my light shines down on her, making sure the driver knows there is someone there.

When it’s time to bend down to pick up poop, the light shines right where I’m looking, and my hands are free to pick up my temporary hand warmer.

Did I mention the price?  Amazon.com has a five LED cyclops for only $10.99.

Okay, technically it’s a product review, except I didn’t receive any product and I’m not getting paid for it.  You can purchase the light through Amazon but I won’t get any money for it, because I haven’t signed up for their affiliation program yet.

Truthfully I just thought it was a great item and might make a good Christmas gift.

Have you ever received a great gift that you didn’t ask for?

Definitely a “fashion statement”! But who cares as long as it makes life easier…You’re rockin’ that light 🙂

Besides it’s dark and no-one can really see me anyway! LOL

    That’s really cool.
When I’m in the country or the beach I use one of those explorer lights, but yours us way nicer. It’d be nice to have some for the dog.

Fashion be damned – it’s a splendid idea and one that we should really invest in! Thanks for the review, Amazon should keep you in a lifetime’s supply 😉

That thing is awesome! I can thin of many uses in addition to nighttime poop-pickup. And your right, it would make a perfect gift (Florian loves outdoor-related gear :))

Oh yes, Hubby was going on and on about it tonight, he uses his when working under the car or the sink, I bet it’s be good for sewing or reading too!

Good idea! Mom can never find the poop in the dark!

Oh yes, it’s great for that. Plus as I said, you’re hands free.

Oh, what a neat little light. I have one of the Petzl lights on a headband, which I quite like, too. The headband is good for summer wear, and my husband did something to make the battery rechargeable.

We don’t use them much with Silas around here, because he will only go on the patio, but when we travel they’re worth their weight in gold. Well, not quite.

I think you will find this one way more versatile, simply because it’s very portable. And truthfully, they don’t weigh much at all. 🙂 They might just be worth their weight in gold!

I am thinking I really need something like this. It would enable us to walk in the park again during the week, something I am really missing lately. I don’t know if I would feel secure enough to let her off-leash even with such a light but at least I wouldn’t have to worry about falling on my face!

Considering how early you are up walking Kristine, it would probably be an awesome investment for you.

Since we don’t have the nose of a dog and have to rely on our feeble human sight in the dark that is a great idea.

It beats having to carry a flashlight too, Jan!!

Hey, that’s a GREAT idea! I have an Amazon account (doesn’t everyone?!) so I think I’ll order one! I “walk” our dogs in the back yard with a flashlight — try finding doggie poop in the middle of a pile of dead, wet leaves without stepping in it first! (That’s what yard shoes are for.)

LOL Sue, I had a pair of sneakers precisely for that reason!

      LOL Barb, I love it!!

That sounds like a great thing to use on a walk. I know they make something similar for duck hunters. It looks more like a light. I was in a local store and saw a baseball type cap with a light built in. Don’t you ever wonder why you couldn’t have thought of that idea and sold it for $$$$$$? lol

Believe it or not, Hubby has thought of two or three things that have gone on to become real products. We just didn’t know how to go about getting them from dream to reality. 🙁
