Dogs in Blankets

December 11, 2012 By Jodi

Before I gave up pork, I used to love those little wienies wrapped in dough.  We call them pigs in a blanket.  One would assume that pigs in a blanket are implying the hotdogs are made of pork.  That might be true but that’s not why I don’t eat hotdogs.  It all has to do with my son-in-law and how he refers to them, but that’s an entirely different post.

Since I don’t get my pigs in a blanket anymore, it seems I need to get my blanket fix in other ways.

Am I the only one who loves to cuddle up with their dogs under a blanket?

My problem is my dogs rarely (if ever) cuddle up under the blankets with me, which is why when opportunity knocks…

They laid down on the floor, so I laid down with them.

Hubby came in and snapped the photo.

It was just as well, since they wouldn’t snuggle anyway.

I satisfy myself by covering them up every opportunity I get.

When I catch Delilah all snug on my pillow, and I’m ready for bed, I’ll look at her and say, “Who’s in my spot?  Are you in my spot?”

She dips her head down and wag her tails and then I lift the covers, shift her a bit and slip in beside her.  I rest her head on my lap and I stroke her head and her silky ears. Sometimes we can stay that way for twenty minutes or so.

On the flip side, Sampson usually lies at the bottom of the bed when we’re not all in it together. Yes, he’s the one that will lay at the bottom of the bed and allow me to cover him up.

He tends to like to cuddle in the middle of the night.  Like when I’m sleeping.

At bedtime we shift him up from his position near the bottom of the bed to the top so he can lie between us.

On a cool night he will stay there, cuddled up against one of us, always willing to accept our strokes of love, if we can’t sleep or if we wake up during the night.

Many’s the night I’ve awoken to find his head on my stomach or shoulder.  Those are the nights I go back to sleep the quickest. 🙂

Do you have cuddlers or are you like me, having to sneak it whenever you can?

Turns out Freighter is a cuddlier. He keeps sneaking up on the bed at the cabin, (thank goodness the bed at our house is too high). At times I really think he thinks he is a lab. 😛

    Cute pictures today!

    Aww, so sweet.

Silas is not much of a cuddler during the day, unless the house is cold. At night I sleep on my side, and he sleeps curled up against my stomach. He never can decide if he wants under the covers or on top, so I usually have to let him in and out a few times a night.

You have to get your dogs in blankets any way you can! Looks like you’ve got it “covered.” 🙂

Cupcake is the cuddliest dog ever. She loves to be under the covers, and is connected to me all night long. If I lie on my side, she curls herself up against my belly, so I feel like I’m pregnant with her. If I turn my back on her, she will press herself against my back, and if I move an inch away, she moves an inch closer. CuddlyX1,000!

Cali has absolutely no interest in sleeping with us 🙁 When she was younger, she used to jump up on the bed in the morning and hangout at the bottom, but now she won’t even do that! I used to try and convince her to sleep with me when my hubby was out of town, it would last about 3 minutes! We do have three snuggly cats, so that helps!

Blueberry is a snuggler unlike any I have ever known before! My last dog Shadow did not like to be touched when she was sleeping, at all. She’d get up and move to the other room to express her disgust. Lol – but Blueberry, well, Blueberry just loves it. And yes, I find that I fall asleep faster and sleep better when she is resting her head underneath my chin. She’s my own personal furnace in the winter!

    Adorable pics!

These pictures are all just so sweet! It’s lovely your dogs will cuddle with you, if only for a short time. Shiva prefers to try to take over the bed as she likes to sleep with her legs all stretched out – not very good for cuddling. And she doesn’t like the blankets on top of her either. The only cuddling I get out of her is on the couch at night when I will rest my head on her side while she is asleep beside me. She has learned to tolerate this but only for so long!

What sweet pictures. If she could, Georgia would be cuddling all day. I love it too though, being so big and our beds so small, she does terrible things to my knees and sleep 😉

My dogs and I have grasped the concept of sharing body heat when the sun goes away.

What a fun post with the most perfect pictures! We have both at our house–Our girl Sheba just melts when she’s on the bed, and so does Josh. Todd and Charlie not so much but they love to be close to me, but none of that snuggling stuff, they leave that to the Goldens! 🙂

You all look very lovely and cosy, wish i could come and join you – bit cold here today! Lots of people starring at the radiator and scratching their heads!

Such sweet photos! Jeffie is the real cuddler at our house and even has a pillow of his own on our bed. Rudy prefers to lay on top of us!

Bella’s not much for blankets – it’s very rare that she’ll be game for it. (She tends to get hot easily, I think.) Tavish, on the other hand, is a blanket fiend!

I’m so relieved to see that other people co-habitate with their pups at night. We’ve gotten the lecture a number of times telling us that our dog MUST spend the night in a crate. Peanut always lies on top of the covers stretched out by our legs (first mine then my husbands). I sometimes cover him with his doggie throw but it doesn’t usually last the night.

Gizmo is not an “under the covers” guy though he does like to snuggle up right next to me on a chair or in bed. We have a furriend Cooper the Doxy who we call “Taco Dog” cause he spends his days rolled up in his blankie and reminds us of a taco *snoogles*

OUR mom says she can ONLY sleep when One or BOTH of us are cuddled up to her.
