Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest

So at long last (at least it seems like that since the idea first fermented in my head) here is the Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest.

Here are the rules according to me:

  • One vote per IP/Cookie per 24 hour period (if I set the voting portion up correctly, this will work.)  If I didn’t please be kind and follow the rules.  This is a fun event to raise money for some fellow bloggers, so please be fair.
  • Promote this contest, just because you only have one ip/cookie address doesn’t mean you can’t promote this on your blog and through your other forms of social media.
  • Voting begins today at 6:00 am, and it ends next Saturday, November 24th at 6:00 am (once again that’s if I’ve set the voting plug-in up properly.  If I haven’t I will go in and manually close the poll.)
  • The proceeds from the sale of the calendars (after production costs and shipping) will be donated to our blogville friends in need at Life with Desmond and Champion of My Heart.  How much the proceeds are will depend on how many calendars are sold. I’d like to keep the cost at about $20 per calendar (including shipping) the more we sell the less we pay for the calendars and the more we can donate.

Some random stuff you might want to know.

As of right now I think I will be using Vistaprint to make the calendars as I am very familiar with their products and have had good luck with them. If anyone has any better printing options PLEASE contact me directly or leave it in the comments.

When you are promoting this contest, please let your followers know that they will be able to purchase calendars also.

Anyone that wants to purchase calendars, send me an e-mail at stone.jodi@ymail.com and I will send you my paypal information.

I will not order a calendar for you unless you have already paid for it.

My goal is to have the calendars into as many hands as possible by Christmas.

  3. What a great bunch of dogs. I can’t wait to see the calendar. Thanks for heading this up.

    I’ll be ordering my calendar soon. But I’m hoping you’ll keep the ordering window open after the pictures are chosen. If Honey gets enough votes to be included, I’ll buy extras for some of her “friends.”

  6. First I have to say that you are awesome for figuring this out and orchestrating it all! What a great idea. Now I have to fess up and tell you that I am behind on my blog reading so I may have missed something (or perhaps I am just a little slow). My question if you or one of your readers can answer is this: am I voting for the picture for the cover of the calendar or are you collecting the votes and the top 12 get included in the calendar?

    Either way, I am off to vote for my favorite! 🙂

    • You are voting for your favorite photo. The photo with the most votes will be on the cover. And don’t feel bad, I am about a week behind in my reading. I’m afraid to sign into my reader. 🙁

  7. Great Job Jodi!!
    My mom had a suggestion (which I thought was a good one) she said–why not put the dogs that don’t win (so to speak) on the very last page/back cover (like a gallery shot) that way everyone can be seen since they are only 20 dogs total. Just a thought 🙂
    There are some awesome looking dogs in Blogville!!!

  9. Sorry, we are confused with how this works. My daughter voted, using her phone, and it went through. But then when I tried to vote, it said I can’t, that I already voted. How does the IP tracking work?

    • I asked Hubby because he understands this better than me. If your daughter has a smart phone (I’m assuming she does) and she has it set up to use a wireless network in the house (we have ours set up this way) then the IP address is based on your modem. For example in my house we have my laptop, hubby’s desktop and two smart phones. I only get one vote because that wireless network. I could take my smart phone off the house wireless network and use verizon’s and I should then be able to vote twice. Does that make sense?

  13. I don’t think this is working right. I haven’t voted yet all I’m seeing are percentages (which seem to indicate it thinks I’ve voted already). :-/

    • I’m not sure. I checked the settings and can’t see anything in there. Someone suggested using a different browser. I know there are some blogs that work better for me in IE than they do in Mozzilla. Have you tried a different browser?

  15. Sorry for having so many questions…
    I have had four different friends try to vote, and all they see are the percentages when they click on the link to your blog. They aren’t being allowed to vote. And they are even in a different country! Do you know why, or is there a different link I can use?

    I have had four different friends, some from other countries, try to vote. But all they see, when thy click on the link to get to your journal, is percentages/results. Any idea how to give them a link that will actually work?

    • I’m not sure. I checked the settings and can’t see why they can’t vote, it is set up for registered users and guests. Someone suggested using a different browser. I know there are some blogs that work better for me in IE than they do in Mozzilla. Have you tried a different browser?
