Drama King

September 3, 2012 By Jodi

Last week I shared a story about Sampson and a lick granuloma.

At the suggestion of our friend at the 2 Brown Dawgs Blog, I picked up some EMT gel.  If you’ve never heard of EMT gel, it is an all natural gel made of collagen.  The gel itself reminds me of a thick super glue, it is used to seal wounds, and is designed to aid in the healing process.  The package says it can be reapplied daily.

I’m not sure if the way the gel dries bothers Sampson or not, but Hubby was awakened yesterday morning by Sampson’s licking.

We needed a new plan of action.

We decided to wrap the paw at night, to deter Sampson from licking.  If this option doesn’t work, I will be switching to a collar. 🙁

I didn’t have any gauze, so I took a paper towel and cut it into fourths, then I folded the paper towel into a square, placed it over his paw and wrapped it with vet tape.

What are you looking at Bob?

Look at that pathetic face.  As soon as I finished wrapping his paw, he held it out as if to say, what is this?

When I coaxed him up the bed, he refused to use his paw.

When he walked, he walked with a limp.

Yes, my dog is a drama king.

And this is the Monday Mischief Blog Hop hosted by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, My Brown Newfies and Luna, a Dog’s Life.

Ha! Sherman does the same thing when I have to wrap his leg for various reasons, he acts like he can’t move and then Leroy pulls the bandage off for him! Looks like you did a good job wrapping it, that’s a tough spot to keep a bandage on-Good job!

He’s a total drama king and I love him for it!!!!

I’ve never used EMT gel on Mazzie, but she was able to try this new type of “bandage” called a Poly-Vex Medicated Spray On Bandage. The bandage consists of a powder (custom made with compounds for your pet’s specific condition) and a spray bottle of distilled water. You apply the powder directly on the wound, spray the powder will distilled water and volia, you have a “bandage” in a few seconds.

The beauty of this solution was that it didn’t come off (believe me, she tried, and it eventually grew off as her skin/hair shed) and it apparently tasted so nasty that she licked it a few times and never bothered with it after that.

It was a great find, because whenever she’s bandaged up like Sampson in the photo above, she will find a way (e-collar or not) to get the bandage off. Feel better soon precious Sampson!!!!

I have to admit, I’ve seen that look before, and it’s worth a cookie or two…For me, not them! 🙂 Okay, for them … really!

I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!!

Sorry the EMT didn’t work out. The licking probably means it is healing. That is what I have noticed with my doggies, especially when the fur starts to grow back. I find vet wrap a bit stressful to use because you have to be careful not to wrap it too tightly and I am constantly checking it. And you think you worry a lot? 😆

That look great! Made me think of seeing Ryan Gosling’s dog on tv with something similar because he had hot spots.

    Hi Y’all!

Just trying to get around and visit all my friends I’ve been missing. Hope y’all are havin’ a great day! Although the drama queen might not be having one. 😉

Of course I’m not into drama. 😉

    Y’all come by now,

Hey Sampson, Hey Delilah, Jet here. Hi Miss Jodi.

Dude, so sorry to hear about your paw. At least you got blue, manly man tape. You know my Mom, I always get the Elizabethan Collar! That EMT gel sounds kind of cool to have in the house though. Miss Linda over at brown dawgs knows a ton! She’s like a walking K9 encyclopedia!

    Get better really fast.
