What Happens On Sunday

May 20, 2012 By Jodi

I want to send  a BIG CONGRATULATIONS out to Kristine at Rescued Insanity, not only did she complete a 5K with a bad ankle, and a time of 32:16 but she also raised $525 for the Nova Scotia SPCA.   Way to go Kristine!!

I can’t wait to read Kristine’s post about the race and hope the weather was nice for the race.

For the last four or five days we’ve had some amazing weather here, nice and cool at night and warm during the day.

When I can’t walk Sampson and Delilah during the cool parts of the day, I try to keep their walks to about 20 or 25 minutes, we’ve also got a little pool set up outside for them.

Delilah will step in and drink a little water, but Sampson likes to lie down in it while he drinks the water.

How do you exercise your dogs in the warmer weather?

Huge Congrats to Kristine! I can’t wait to read all about it!

We are having a heat wave here! With temps in the mid 80’s the Newfs prefer to spend the day in the house with the A/C. If the temps cool down enough at dusk, that is when I take them for a walk. Sometimes they want to go and other times they don’t!

I love that Sampson lays down in the pool to drink!

Congratulations to Kristine on a superb outcome – and with a bad ankle at that – well done! It’s almost always warm here, so we have no option but to go out, whatever the temperature. However, we keep to the shade as much as possible and just take small walks – with plenty of water with us as Poppy gets very thirsty. She also likes to take lots of rests along the way, (she is almost 13), so I let her. At least she is getting out.
She loves to eat ice in summer, in fact, she asks for it if she’s too hot – she sits by the freezer, staring at it!

This made me smile because if the sun’s up here then it’s HOT! Consequently, I’m exactly like you – we leave to go on our walks as late as we possibly can – at this time of the year that means 5.45pm. During the week I usually arrange my social life around getting Flo out for a walk at that time but on the occasions when I have to take her earlier then our walk will be shorter and I try to take her where it’s jungley and/or where there are safe water bodies that she can actually get into to cool off. 🙂

    Hi Y’all,

Stoppin’ to say “hi”! Thanks for stoppin’ to visit me!

To answer your questions about hot weather and exercise we go out before or around sunrise in the morning and sunset in the evening if we are at the shore. If we’re in the mountains we still go early, but we can always to to the highest elevations for a cooler hike. My Humans always carry a bottle of water so I can get a drink on the hike. If I’m on a leash I carry a collapsible bowl and bottle of water in my backpack.

Hope y’all had a fun weekend!!

    Y’all come back now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

You’ve heard the saying “all you need to know about life you can learn from your dog”?

    Sampson is living proof!

He looks very content in his swimming pool, relaxing with (in???) a nice cool drink. 🙂

We have a baby pool out for the pups as well … they can’t live the summer without it! 🙂

I have been meaning to get one of those pools for the brown dawgs for a long time. I really need to get on that this summer because I think Freighter would love it. Sampson sure has the right idea. I could have used that pool while I was stuck in the hot field all weekend. 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I don’t think I can say that enough. Your support was just awesome and I know a big part of my success is all thanks to you and my fellow bloggers. Seriously. Thank you.

Thanks also to the weather for not raining! It grew quite warm, however, very fast, and I am glad I chucked off my hooded sweatshirt before I started running. The sunshine was a bonus, the humidity, notsomuch. Oh well, I guess you can’t have it all!

So jealous of that kiddie pool — makes me really wish I had a yard. My Samson, however, is not a big fan of the water so not even sure if he’d take full advantage of one. He’d probably act similarly to your Sampson by treating it like a water bowl but he would probably stand outside of it and slurp 🙂
