Disaster Area…Day Three Hundred, Thirty Six

November 1, 2011 By Jodi

Apparently President Obama declared us a disaster area. We still have no power and another day of no work. We are trying to make the best of it.

This morning I took the dogs for a long walk and worked at clearing some of the smaller limbs off our trails.  The picture above is our blue and yellow trail which I could not clear.

After our walk Hubby and I headed over to our friend’s house to help her clean up the yard.

We are managing to stay warm by using the blower on our fireplace heater plugged in to an inverter which is attached to a car battery.  The inverter converts the battery power to electrical current.  We get the fireplace good and hot, then tun the blower for a bit.

Because we are sleeping in the living room we are managing to keep the fire going 24/7.

We have a small grill that runs on the small bottles of propane and we manage to have coffee each morning and a hot breakfast and dinner.  Additionally we have a tea kettle that sits on top of the fireplace insert so we have hot water for tea and dishes. 🙂

The dogs are adjusting fairly well; certainly enjoying the long morning walks.

I am a bit concerned about their raw food, so this morning we took a cooler and filled it with snow and the frozen food. We then buried the cooler in the snow.  I’m cautiously optimistic that we can save their food.

Thank you for the prayers and comments, we do appreciate them and know there are others who are not as lucky.

I will try and get some pictures of our make-shift living arrangements.

Stay safe.

Thank goodness for gas stoves and coffee. Sounds like the raw food should keep in that way, smart thinking. Fingers crossed that they fix the power soon!
