No Power…Day Three Hundred, Thirty Four

October 30, 2011 By Jodi

We have no power. We got hit with a nor’easter and the snow combined with the leaves still on the trees was not a good combination!

The snow started yesterday around 12:30pm and by 4:30 when we took the dogs to the park, we had a good two to three inches.

We kept the dogs on the field because even then we could hear trees snapping.

Sampson snuck off and when he came running out of the woods he barely missed being hit by a falling branch!

When we got back to the house around 5:00 we had no power. 🙁 We set up camp in the living room in front of the fireplace.  Before going to bed we packed emergency bags and set them by the door. We didn’t get much sleep do to the snap, crackle and pop of falling frees and branches.

About 3:30 am Delilah and I heard a big whoosh and a tree came down on the deck but luckily there was no damage. When we got up this morning a large branch (still attached to the tree) was resting against our front door. It’s a good thing we didn’t need to evacuate during the night. 😉

We spent the day cleaning up the yard and finally ventured out around 5:00 pm. What a sight met our eyes!

There are downed trees and power lines everywhere!  Thank the good Lord it didn’t look like any homes were hit. We hurried home before it got too dark so we could be sure to see any downed wires.

We have the fireplace and a small grill and are managing to keep warm and had two hot meals today.

The dogs are bored senseless but it is still too dangerous to walk them.

Blogging will be tough but I’m in it for the long haul. 😉

We hope you are all safe and warm and look forward to catching up when we have power again. Oh and I will post some storm (not of the 2brown dawgs fame) pictures when I can work on my computer and not on my phone.

Once again I admire your dedication. No power and you still managed to get a post up. Incredible.

I hope the electric company gets to you soon. It’s nice you have a fireplace. Back in the early ’90s when I was living with my mom we lost power for two days due to a snow and ice storm. She has a gas fireplace, but all the same, it was cold!

I hope this is the worst of your weather for the season (but I wouldn’t count on it if I were you 😉 ).

Oh my goodness I am so glad you all are safe. Hopefully the worst is over and they will have your power restored soon.

Maybe a good game of hide and seek will help Sampson and Delilah with the boredom and help keep you warm at the same time.

Yes Hide N Seek would have kept them busy, but I didn’t. 😉

I have a friend in New York state (just outside NYC) who has also been without power since Saturday, and her house is now a cozy 55 degrees.

It really makes me crazy that in this day and age, electric power is not more reliably handled. Hope the repair crews are out soon.

We have been without power since Saturday around 5:00. Luckily we have a fireplace so we are a bit cozier at 60 degrees. My best to your friend and I agree, they should be able to do this better.

Those nor-easters can be tough (and I don’t mean the little brown dawg kind 😆 ). But seriously, glad to hear you are warm and safe. I imagine it will take a bit to clear the trees and get your power back. Wish I could send you some hot soup. At least you have Sampson and Delilah to snuggle with. 🙂

I know this was VERY much BAD… Sorry you are without POWERS.. butt No POWERS is way better than a damaged Peep Pup or Palace. I’ll keep my paws crossed that you get your Powers back in about 87 seconds.

I heard you guys had a huge snow! Yay fireplace–I’m sure I’ll be wishing for one of those soon, once our multi-annual power outages start….

Mother Nature is incredible. I heard on the radio that the trick-or-treaters that got hit by the storm will not be able to go out tonight because of all the downed powerlines. I hope you get your power turned back on soon.

Glad you and the fam are ok Jodi. We’re ‘sharing’ a generator with Mike’s 2 sibs so we’ve had a few hours every day to get a shower and flush toilets, we’ve been very lucky. I’m back to work [civilization!] so I now have computer access. We don’t anticipate the power coming back on till Day 11.

Wow Kathy, we are looking at Day 8, but having seen the destruction that surrounds us, I will believe it when I see it.

Glad you have at least some way of managing.

Thanks to you all for the well wishes, we read them but had trouble responding. I had actually responded on my phone to all of the above, but some of them did not take.
