Dogs And Cats….Day Two Hundred, Fifty Three

August 10, 2011 By Jodi

I’ve noticed something about Sampson.

He’s a little strange around the cat.

Sometimes it seems like he is almost trying to play with Bob.  He runs up to him, his tail is up and he has a playful light in his eyes, his posture indicates he wants to play.

There are other times when he chases the cat.  Like this morning, Bob came into the bedroom and I said, “Hi Bob.”  Sampson bolted off the bed and chased Bob from the room.

Still other times when Bob is waiting near a door and Sampson won’t walk through the door because of Bob.  He is a 90 pound dog and won’t walk past a 10 pound cat!

There have been instances when Bob has climbed up on the bed and laid down between the dogs and they have all slept.

And yet last night Sampson wouldn’t bring his treat on the bed because Bob was there.

Bob is the same way.

Sometimes he comes in and lays right next to the dogs on the bed; or will look out the window with Delilah.

He drinks from the dog’s water bowl.

Then he turns around and swats at them as they walk past.

I guess that is just dogs and cats.  What about your animals?  How do they get along?

Storm and the cat play, often rolling around on the floor. We have to stop them because with their size difference, we worry the cat will be smushed. Thunder tries to play with the cat, but he is so big she is not interested. Both dogs chase the cat on occasion.

My animals would never all lay together like yours. That is really cute!

LOL,that is cute that they play together! I have only ever seen one dog and cat that played together. That cat would clean the dog’s ears!

I just wish there was a bit of consistency with them…..one minute cuddle the next they have him pinned in the corner. If they weren’t ganging up on him I wouldn’t care, but there is 160 pounds of dog against a little 10 pound cat. hehe

Sampson and Bob sound like they have a very similar relationship to Shiva and our cat. Sometimes they chill out together, sometimes the cat taunts her, sometimes she’ll try to get him to play, sometimes she will give him his distance. They never play, exactly, but I like to think they are grudgingly friends. Though I am positive the cat would not miss the dog were she to suddenly disappear!

I’m certain Sampson won’t miss Bob when Bob goes back to my daughter. 🙂

My animals are weird, weird, weird! Did you ever see the video of my cat and dog WRESTLING? It’s like WWF fighting or mud pit wrestling- minus the mud! http://adventuresinemilyland.blogspot.com/2011/05/dog-vs-cat-smackdown.html

My cat very much thinks he is a dog- walks on a leash, sits on command, and I am worried the dog is starting to think he is a cat! Walks on the back of the couch, plays with cat nip mice… What is going on here!

Seriously? I get the cat acting like a dog, but I’ve never heard of a dog acting like a cat!! That is nuts.

Well, the cat over here acts like a dog sometimes. But I tell you, cats live the best life, from what I can see.

Too funny and too cute. I’m not a cat lover but that is really a pretty photo of Bob. My Molly definitely thinks she’s a cat, she actually curls her paws like a cat and bats around her balls, climbs up on the top of the couch or the chair to watch outside, and ignores us completely when it suits Her Highnesses’ fancy. lol. love that dog!

Kathy, that is adorable! My daughter has a cat that chases and retrieves little tin cat balls. I am glad that you love your Molly! They make such a difference in my life. 🙂

Jodi…cat and dogs sure are very interesting when put together. Our cat lewi ill occasionaly rub himself on my dogs legs. Sometimes one of my dogs takes it as cue to play but lewi evacuates. However when i had a JRT staying with us, our cat tried to pounce on it and play. I think our cat has decided he will only play with dogs closer to his size. Love th pic of your dogs and cat on the bed…
