Let Me Rip It, Let Me Tear It…Day Two Hundred, Seventeen

July 5, 2011 By Jodi

Sometimes my dogs get in the mood to rip things up.  This is the reason that most of their toys come from either The Dollar Store or The Christmas Tree Shoppes.  Our philosophy is we would rather have them rip apart a toy rather than say….a sofa!

Usually only on their birthdays will we splurge and spend more that a dollar to two on a toy.

Sometimes the toys barely last long enough for a quick sniff and other times the toys last for years.

Today Sampson was in the mood to tear a toy.

The Ritual begins like this.

First the toy gets placed on your lap.

Then a tug of war begins, the purpose of this is to rip the toy.  When he hears the first rip, he gets very excited.

Once the rip is large enough, he proceeds to pull the stuffing from the toy.

The entire purpose for destroying the toy, is to get the little squeaker out.  We call this their *bubble gum* because they chew it but don’t eat it.

Another satisfied customer.

I tried to catch a bit of video.

This is Diesel with any toy that is not rubber or plastic … So needless to say, he doesn’t get soft toys often either. 🙂 Cute pictures and video!

He never destroys plastic, although Delilah has. Thanks!

Sampson is so funny as he destroys his new toy. He and Shiva have very similar styles. Only she ALWAYS prefers to rip. The only toys she has kept for more than a few days without a tear are nylabones. 😛 We never buy her stuffed toys anymore, except on very special occasions. Sometimes it is such a blast to watch them gut a defenseless stuffie.

LOL he enjoys it so much! Nylabones are cool, does she destroy her kong too?

LOL to cute! You’ve recorded Cyrano’s dream day, just ripping up anything possible. Especially anything with a fluffy middle! 😛

Sometimes they don’t get ripped up for a very long time. LOL

The golden we had before the 2 brown dawgs had the first rag toy we ever got him. He just never ripped up his toys. Of course a couple of brown dawgs came along and made short work of every one of them.

Some dogs do and some don’t; I’m sure I don’t know why. I don’t care if it keeps my furniture safe!

Sadie Lou, the Chessie, can destroy all toys and kongs marked “non~destructible”. Miss Stella seems to do well, so far, with the stuffed toys. She will squeek the fire out of them!

LOL Delilah will squeak, squeak, squeak. Then boom one day, she tears. They have a stuffed flower that has squeakers in every petal and also in the middle. That is a good toy because they can rip and they can squeak too.

Do you let them rip or is that forbidden?
