Hard Work Pays Off…Day One Hundred, Sixty Six

May 15, 2011 By Jodi

It was a lazy day at Stone Manor; while I readied myself for my god-daughter’s college graduation (congratulations Julie) Sampson and Delilah decided life was better off in bed, so that’s where they went.

Apparently the whole time I was gone (6 hours) no-one in the house-hold (including hubby) did much of anything.  It was raining for much of the day, so I can’t really say I blame them, and heaven knows had I been home I would probably have been on the computer all day; checking facebook, blogs and e-mails. 🙂

Even though it was icky out, I still wanted Sampson and Delilah to get some exercise, so as soon as I got home, I put the groceries away and hastily prepared a pot of soup to simmer while we were gone.  We grabbed the shaved roast beef and headed off.

Whenever possible (re: the Lacrosse team isn’t using the field) we like to run Delilah and tire her out just a little before we hit the trails.  Of course Sampson runs too, but he tires more easily than she does, so we don’t run him as much.  Five or six lengths of the field is usually good and then we headed off to the trail.  Since we were very late in getting started we decided a quick trek through the woods was enough.

The rain had stopped, but the sky was still overcast with the occasional sprinkle, so we were quite surprised to run into a young couple in the woods.  Yes, there really was a point to this blog. 🙂  Normally when we come across someone on the trail, we call the dogs to us and make them sit while the person passes.  I was too busy chatting and I didn’t see them, but here is really what I wanted to share.  The dogs very casually walked up to the people and wandered right past them.  Granted they didn’t sit (which is really what my ultimate goal is) but the exciting thing is they did not run full tilt and they weren’t intrusive.

Hard work really does pay off when it comes to training your dog.

Everything is so green! Spring has sprung!

Seems like it takes forever, doesn’t it, to get them to learn the things you want them to know? Ah, but so gratifying when they do! 🙂

“Hard work really does pay off when it comes to training your dog.” No truer words than that! 🙂

Sampson is too, I’m just pleased that they didn’t “rush” the couple, they have a tendency to run full tilt at someone. 🙂
