Heart Like a Dog Blog

You may (or may not) have noticed that there was no post on Saturday.  That was the first time since I started this blog 865 days ago that I made a conscious decision not to post.

Scandalous, I know.

I’ve been putting so much pressure on myself to post every day, that I thought I should give myself a break.  Going forward I give myself permission to skip one or two days per week.

I hope that by doing so, I can still put out a quality blog and not burn myself out.

BlogPaws

I’m just about ready to put the finishing touches on my presentation, and don’t worry I fully intend on making it available to all of you (though I don’t think you need it) after BlogPaws.

My original intent with BlogPaw was to bring Sampson and leave Delilah home.  Hubby had agreed to drive down early Saturday morning with my Sam Man as he can’t get time off to go for the whole conference.

The plan was to have my niece stay here with Delilah and have a dog walker come in on Saturday to walk Delilah.  About a week or so ago Hubby told me he’s worried that Delilah will freak out when he and Sampson leave in the middle of the night.  His solution was to bring them both and he would be their handler.

My gut is telling me that Delilah would be too much of a tax in that situation, I know for sure she’ll be barking at every sound she hears from the hotel room.

With the conference only a month away, I’m currently leaning towards leaving them both at home.

Spring is here!

Last Monday there were still patches of snow in my yard, but I’m happy to report that Spring finally arrived!  Yesterday I snuck out of work at lunch and took the dogs for an afternoon walk.

While I didn’t capture the beauty of the bright blue sky, I think the picture shows that Spring is here!

Thanks to our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs.

They have an area for the dogs to be in while you are at sessions and things (if you want them to be in that area with other dogs)……barking is ok…there will be other dogs barking at the hotel….but……..as for the husband? Not many of them come so he might be lonely! The only hubby I remember seeing was Tom! 🙂
    Sorry hubby!!!!!!!!!!!

Great that you’re on top of your presentation. Guess leaving them both home would be kinder to Delilah.

Maybe leaving both at home would be easiest? Glad you have Spring now. So have we. Have a terrific Thursday.
    Best wishes Molly

I can’t go to blog paws because it is too far, makes mom sad since I am her inspiration but it is what it is…she will share all the wonderful things she learned when she is back home. We hope that maybe next year it will be closer to us and she can drive and take me. I was posting 1-2 times a week and then this year have moved up to 3 times a week which is working well, not sure if I will make a leap to more days at some point or not. If mom did not have a real job there would be more time for more posts. We stress out about just the 3 a week, our facebook, twitter, etc…it all takes a lot of time and thought not to mention work but we do enjoy it. No worries if you miss a day here and there.

Don’t you feel better now with the pressure off?! That’s why I decided to do my blog for me and just appreciate and enjoy whatever benefits came out of it. At least when I do post something, it’s a reminder for myself of all the crazy things my three furry kids do and get into. Some day, when they’re at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for me, I’ll have these memories to make me smile through my tears.
Personally, I find it easier to leave the girls home with a pet sitter (or Daddy or both) when I need to go out of town. At least I know they’re in good hands, and getting lots of love, and not getting into trouble (or getting ME into trouble). And from what Caren said, hubby might be happier staying home with Sampson and Delilah, too.

Good luck at BlogPaws Conference. I’m looking forward to hearing all about it. Happy Thursday!

That is a PERFECT picture to PROVE that Spring is Here.

WHEW… You skipped a day and got through it. WE try to do a Daily Post… butt we always keep a BUNCH Pre-Posted (or in Draft) fur when we are too bizzy to post. Just don’t be skipping TOO many days… we would MISS YOU somethingy terrible.

Wish we were going to BP. Too far this year. Hopefully next year!

Rita would bark at every sound too. She’s a tad high strung!

I try to post 3x/week, sometimes 4. I don’t know how folks do it every day! That’s a huge time commitment – plus just coming up with topics. I don’t even have time to read daily posts, let alone write them. I say, do what works for you – no one needs the added stress! My NY’s resolution was simply to “Enjoy More” (plus Move More and Listen More). Just do what you enjoy!

The fun part of blogging for me is that unlike the rest of my life, there are no deadlines or pressures except what we put on ourselves.

I’m glad you gave yourself a break – we all have enough pressure in our lives without adding to it 😉 I wish I could make it to Blog Paws – if I had Petdiggity completed and was really working it, I would have good reason, but since I have been seriously slacking in my dog blogging, I’d have a tough time selling it to my hubby!

I’m hoping they stream some of the sessions again this year – I’d love to see your presentation!!

A picture of a happy dog butt is better than a picture of the sky. Yay spring. I can’t wait to see how the dogs do at the hotel. I’ve always had good luck with that. In the past, my dogs have always been on their best behavior in the strange room. Do you have travel kennels for them? Some hotels require them. I hope they can go.

I really don’t notice if someone skips a day or two between posts. I can’t post every day since I don’t have a computer at home and I usually do it at my lunch hour at work or at the library. While I love reading your posts every day, you don’t have to be so rigid about it – we aren’t going anywhere! 🙂

I think the dogs would be fine if you left them at home – maybe less stressful?

And Yay for spring! Actually, our summer is pretty much here starting next week. We’ll get into the 90’s and it’ll only go up from there. 🙁

Taking a day off from blogging is good for the soul 🙂
And if I were going to Blog Paws, I’d volunteer to keep Sampson with me (you’d be on your own with that wild girl! lol)

I took Roxy with me last year because she is sooooo easy. Hubs stayed with Torrey but did come one evening with her. There weren’t many hubbies there, but he didn’t care and had fun. Torrey was just over a year and i worried she would be a handful. She actually did really well. Her and Snoopy had time under the dinner table, and she was happy with that. But, she is not a barking dog. You have to go with your instincts though.

Hey! Hey! Hey! You’re driving to BlogPaws?! Where do you live, approximately? I’m having no end of trouble finding something local to northern VA, something that I can’t fly in. Can you email me, pretty please? flea@jonesnaturalchews.com

Good for you and I have no doubt your blog will still be sensational.

Have you thought of doing a dry run with the dogs, rent a cheap local motel room and see how Delilah does with the whole thing. Might present a good training opportunity, you never know when you might have to stay in a hotel and this way it won’t be her first time. Just a thought!

Thanks so much for participating in TNT! When ever we travel with the dogs, the first night in the hotel always has the dogs (well Storm) barking at every noise. The second night they are usually much better.

Wow you have a lot of green. We just have rain. 🙂

I’m so disappointed to miss BlogPaws this year! I’ll look forward to seeing your presentation after the event! I took Cooper to VA last year, and he definitely did bark at every sound in the hotel… as did several other dogs! So don’t worry about that! My problem was that he kept thinking we were under attack and would charge the door every time the hotel staff rolled their cart by, which they do several times a night. I ended up sleeping with his leash looped around my arm. Fun stuff! 🙂
