Whoops Where’s Delilah?

I’m very spoiled by the area where I walk the dogs.  I mean minus the spider webs, how can you beat the beauty of the woods?

There’s something about the serenity of the woods that can’t help but bring peace to your soul.  When you add your two favorites pups to the beauty, well it’s like a double rainbow.

There’s one spot with a really large rock.  I’ve never really let the dogs explore the rock before partly because we’ve been so caught up in the beauty of our woods and partly because, well the dogs have never really shown any interest in it.

A few weeks ago I decided it would be a perfect place to take a picture and so I encouraged the dogs to climb to the top of the rock and wait while I framed a shot.

You want us to stay up here mom?

After I snapped this shot, I thought I should step back a bit farther, just so you could get a good idea of how high the rock actually is.    Without turning around I began moving backward.  That’s when my mountain goat Delilah decided I might be heading somewhere more interesting.

She actually ran about two feet down the rock and jumped the rest of the way!  You really can’t tell the height in the photo but if I were to guess, I’d say it’s at least 12 to 15 feet high.

Her daring never ceases to amaze me, as well as keep my heart beating fast!  Are there things your dogs do that make you gasp?

Love the first photo Jodi! Very pretty shot!

  2. What a beautiful picture Jodi! Delilah is such a daredevil!
My dogs make me gasp every time they run out the back door!

  3. Love that first photo, it would make a good calendar photo! Daredevil Delilah (DD) :)

Funny you should ask, had a recent big “GASP”, Doing a little fun retrieving with Cheyenne, sent her for the first bird and she stumbled and went down on her chest, my heart leaped but it didn’t stop her she just kept going.

    • Jodi Stone says:

OMG Misty, I would have pooped a pickle! I freak out if they stumble or slip. Thank goodness she was ok.

It would make a nice calendar, no?

  4. Torrey makes me gasp when she chases squirrels in the woods. It’s like she has no idea were she is going.

  5. Toby says:

Good girl Delilah – always good to get your peoples heart rates up. It’s healthy for them.

  6. jan says:

That first shot of photo contest ready. What a great place you have to walk your guys.

  7. “Big rock” might be an understatement! I thought sure you were going to say when you backed up, you fell ;-) Great photo!

  8. Delilah keeps your heart beating lol
Doggy it’s predictable, I know that if there’s water he’ll jump.

    • Jodi Stone says:

Well yes there’s that too! If there’s water, she’s going in that too along with whoever is on the other end of the leash. :-)

  9. Where we walk/hike we have a very similar terrain. We even have a rock just like this one! How funny would it be, if it was the same park?!?

    • Jodi Stone says:

That would be funny, but I would hope by now we would have met if we were walking in the same woods! Thank you for stopping by and commenting.

  10. Hi Y’all,

I’m such a good and perfect boy, I’d never make my Human gasp or do anything to ’cause her grief. ;)

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  11. Kristine says:

As soon as I saw how high the rock was my first thought was “aren’t you afraid they will jump?”

LOL. Good to know Delilah also has a bit of the daredevil in her!

  12. Flea says:

My dogs love a good hike. That’s such a pretty trail. My heart lurches when we have ducklings and the dogs want to go out, but it’s lurching for the duckling’s sake.

    • Jodi Stone says:

That would scare me too, probably why my husband said no to chickens. :-)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, I’m interested to learn about your product.

  13. Pamela says:

    Delilah thinks she’s a Parkour dog! :)

But you think she’d learn from Sampson’s recent bout on the disabled list would have taught her something, huh?

  14. Jumping down from high rocks and ledges have to be one of them! That’s how Georgia hurt her neck and got an impinged nerve. Eating dried bait from the jetty is worrying too as there are sometimes fish hooks attached. And of course, scrounging for food in an area where dogs have been baited. Sigh. I gasp a lot.

    • Jodi Stone says:

Oh Gosh! I remember that now, jumping off a wall, right? She is better now, yes?

I’m afraid to ask what that means, where dogs have been baited?

  15. Frankie Furter and Ernie says:

OKAY….. I have TOLD Blogger to Follow this new site… I just HOPE and PRAY that he follows commands… Fur ONCE. hehehe

  16. That is a great shot but I can just imagine what you thought when you saw her jump. I would have freaked…lol. Our dogs cazy water entries make me wince at times.

  17. Kirsten says:

I love watching a dog make a dramatic jump–though yes, certainly it puts my heart in my throat sometimes. That is a gorgeous rock, and the pups knew exactly how to pose to give you an awesome shot.

  18. Deb says:

King of the mountain…nice place to walk

  19. Basil says:

What a fab picture!! I do hope Delilah is ok after her big jump??

  20. That rock definitely looks like something a Mountain Dog should climb. We love the woods too, especially in the Autumn with all the mud and leaves *wag wag wag*

  21. Smokey once jumped out a second story window because we were calling (not him, but that didn’t matter to my boy) and that was the only way he could get to us. He bit his lip a little bit, but that was the extent of the damage, despite landing on concrete.

I love the picture of the dogs on the rock. At one of our regular dog parks, there’s a tree that got split recently. On a day I didn’t have the camera, Junebug decided to stand right at the spot where the broken limb bowed to the ground. It would have been a perfect Princess of the Realm picture.

  22. Tanya says:

Amazing photo of those 2 and Delilah is unbelievable athletic to have been able to pull off such a huge jump without a hitch or limp!!!! Mazzie is quite jealous of your amazing walk route….
